Is It Possible To Be An Animal Lover And Not Want Any Animals Yourself

Why do animal lovers protect animals before humans?

In my life time, I've noticed that animal lovers will almost kill themselves to protect the rights of animals, but do nothing when it comes to children or anyone else for that matter?. It's like they would rather die before an animal get's hurt. For ex. I've been told by a few that if they were driving and saw a small animal in the street, they would risk their life and others on the road, by avoiding hitting the animal? What? Or if there's a fire, you would risk your life to go and save an animal, are you kidding me? Then if you save them, and then you die. Your family would be left behind with an animal, and would've lost a family member, how ironic! You mean you would rather put your own life and others at risk over an animal? Is the life of an animal more important than a human? Hell No!!! You would fight for animals, but your children are at risk for abuse, hunger, being unkept and etc..

Personally, I think some people over due it when it comes to animals, I believe there are some deep rooted issues with a person when it's to the extreme, there has to be some kind of void, or unhappiness in a person life, to put an animal on the same scale as a human being! It just sounds crazy to me. Sorry...but somebody has to help me to understand this kind of weird behavior. I cant love anything that's not human, I'm very compassionate about my family and love them dearly, I just cant see how in the world a person can feel this way about an animal??

If you call yourself an “animal lover” and still eat meat, eggs, dairy, how do you balance the psychological divide?

There is no psychological divide. I love all animals, including predators that rip the guts out of their prey while it’s still alive. I’m an omnivore. I’m not afraid of blood and guts, nor am I squeamish. Life feeds on life.Plants are also alive — just as alive as animals are, and just as interesting. I do my best to ensure the animals I eat were not subjected to excessive cruelty, and were killed painlessly. Plant, animal — life is life.We only eat pasture-raised eggs, and grass-fed milk for health reasons as well as humane reasons. I prefer to kill my own when I can, actually. I enjoy fishing for food.If you love nature, love the natural world and the living things in it, you’d be a hypocrite if you hated killing and death. They’re integral to nature. You can’t love a wolf and hate predation.I respect the living things that give their lives so I can eat. I admire their beauty, the strength of their species and its unique habits and behavior. And I respect my own species, and don’t shy from doing what I need to in order to live, and what my instincts direct me to. Uniquely, we at least care what our prey experiences, and seek to end its life without pain or undo distress.Like most animal lovers, I disapprove of factory farming, and believe it needs to end. Not only do CAFOs give animals a boring, stifling, mildly stressful life, they also produce a food product that’s practically a poison and ruins human health. Factory farm meat is excessively high in inflammatory omega 6 fatty acid, and has no omega 3 to speak of to balance it. It shouldn’t be legal to sell.

Do you consider yourself an animal lover?

The answer to this question is a very strong yes! Ever since I was a kid I wondered the neighborhood feeding dogs my lunch and food from my parent's fridge. I often brought home mine, squirrels, dogs, birds, turtles and frogs I found on my excursions only to have my mom naked me return the animal from wherever I found it. I promised it would be different when I grew up. As soon as I became an adult I began volunteering at animal shells. I rescue feral cats, foster litters of puppies for the no kill shelter, rescue injured animals, capture snakes and bats from homes to release in the wild, and currently have adopted 4 straight dogs. A good portion of my pay guess to rescue and wildlife conservation organizations. I've raised my daughter to have the same love and passion for rescue work. She focus on cats and is a medical professional. I've introduced my love of animals and rescue work to my students as well by bringing my vast array of replies, arachnids and rodents to school. I do believe I'm the epitome of being an animal lover. Oh and did I mention that my daughter and I don't eat meat?Groot- found him freezing on the street abandoned by his human family (found them and they didn't want him back)meMichonne- she had been hitting by a car and was heartworm positiveGamora and her puppies - found her pregnant and wandering the streets

Am I a furry if I like normal animals?

You are a furry, only if you consider yourself one. Saying you are a furry means that you consider yourself a part of the furry fandom. The furry fandom is a fandom based around liking anthropomorphic animals. If you only like normal animals, then you may wish to call yourself an “animal lover” or “naturalist” or “amateur zoologist” or something like that.If you prefer anthro animals that have the body style that is more similar to an animal, such as Todd, from Fox and the Hound, then you may still consider yourself a furry that prefers the “feral” or “more natural form”.I shall demonstrate with foxes below:Here you see Todd and Copper, both anthro animals, because they speak and show other human emotions and display more human like behavior at times. Not all anthro animals look are bipedal and look like Nick Wilde from Zootopia. This is, I think the form that is preferred by furries, but not the only type of anthro animals that furries like.Or have to.If you prefer them in their natural form like this:—then you might be better off trying going with a more descriptive phrase, like the ones mentioned earlier.

Why are these animal lovers being such hypocrites?

It's more a double standard than hypocrisy, although I cringe when a person declares herself/himself an "animal lover" while they're wearing leather & munching a chicken limb. This person is an animal "enjoy-er" perhaps, or a lover of specific (ie cuddly) species.

I agree 100% that there's essentially no difference between eating a pig & eating a Pekingese. It's the value we give specific animals. Take rats, for example. Here, they're often considered pests or suitable lab specimens, but I consider them sweet companions (we have 7) & I know people who have eaten them. Out of tradition, culture or whatever, we differentiate between "food" animals & "companion" animals.

"Food" animals have personality and emotions whether we admit it or not. As you might know, pigs are about as intelligent as dogs or cats. A cow recently rescued her human during a flash flood (if I can find the link again I'll post it). When I was a kitten, I had 2 pet chickens who would follow me around the yard.

Was it Sir Paul McCartney that said "If slaughterhouses had glass walls we'd all be vegetarian"?

Why am I ostracized for not being an animal lover?

If by ostracized you mean why don't your animal lover family & friends call you home because they refuse to tie up their harmless babies for you?If by ostracized you mean “I saw you kick the dog on the street and I am having nothing to do with you in future” pals are doing exactly that “having nothing to do with you”.If by ostracized you mean no truck with you because you crack jokes like, “Hey you, I shall put you between two slices of bread and smear some mustard and make a hot dog” - nobody laughs and nobody calls you home ostracized? If by ostracized you mean - well, you just mean so ostracized. But if you are none of the above and just don't like animals but can keep your trap shut about it there is no reason why you should be ostracized. It's like not liking babies. Makes you a monster but so long as we can't tell & you don't, you can come.Edit:If you are a great human' otherwise and for some reason don't share the same feelings as many about animals, I don't see any reason for the ostracization.

Can an INTP be an animal lover?

I am an INTP and I love animals. I genuinely 100% believe there should be more animals and less people in our lives. Personally, I treat animals better than I treat humans.People just don't get it. INTPs are so misunderstood that animals, for me, are just better than people. They don't judge, don't make assumptions, don't think they hold the secret to your soul or whatever when they don't even know you. While some are animal lovers just because and some aren't, I don't think being an INTP makes it harder for me to love animals at all.I (like many others INTP) hate injustice. Everything that can be better but isn't, whether it's because of society, tradition, religion, politics etc is beyond my limit of toleration. Animals are abandoned, experimented on, mistreated, killed for sport or money. It should not be like that. For me, there's just no difference in mistreating an animal and mistreating a baby.

Can animal lovers be non-vegetarians? Isn't that hypocrisy?

It is no more hypocritical than loving the Forest, but living in a wood built structure...How can you say you believe in preserving the Forests and preserving natural recourses when you yourself live in a home made of wood, and write with a wooden pencil, on wooden paper? It all boils down to preservation. The balance of give and take. The same holds true regarding the consumption of meat. You can love animals by preserving their habitats, educating our youth in the responsibility over the animal kingdom, and ensuring that the circle of life continues, and that animal abuse is not tolerated. Loving animals doesn't mean you have to make yourself personally invested in the life or death of every individual animal as if it's a person. We don't need to be going and giving chickens little prosthetic legs, and giving elderly squirrels life saving open heart surgeries or chemotherapy treatments. These are animals! Animals die! Animals kill! Animals kill their babies and eat eachother alive and die horrible deaths in the wild. They don't feel guilty because they don't have the ability. They are just dumb animals. The smartest of animals, is still not a person. If you don't want to eat meat, don't eat it.But understand that the animals are already dead- you didn't kill them. And you not eating meat is never going to amount to a shut down on the meat industry... So if you WANT a hamburger, by all means, eat one!You don't have to humanize every burger, steak, and drumstick, and wonder about the deep emotional issues and individuality of said animal...."Who was this pork, and how did he feel? What were his hopes and dreams? What was the most defining moment in porkys life? Who is caring for porkys mother now? Was that relationship strained? Oh, whoa is me, I can't bear to eat this pork!!"I don't think anyone can truly claim to love animals until they've tasted one!Yummy!
