Is It Possible To Be Patriotic Towards Your Home Planet Instead Of Home Country. Proud To Be From

Is Canada a patriotic country ?

I consider Canada a patriotic country. However, it's usually a quiet patriotism, and it takes a special event, such as the Winter Olympics, to prompt us to showcase our pride in a showy fashion. One of the phenomenons of the recent Olympics was that people were finally (if they weren't before) showing their love for Canada.

Heck, even non-Canadians showed Canadian pride in the Olympics. The athletes from both Japan and China waved Canadian flags along with their own country's flags during the opening ceremony. While many Canadians won't ordinarily display their patriotism, I'm confident that if they were travelling and someone asked them where they were from, that they would proudly say that they are Canadian.

I think Canadians are equally as proud as Americans are of their respective countries, but like many have pointed out, that pride is exhibited very differently.

Why do people think Black Americans can't be patriotic?

blacks can be patriotic, but why would they want to be? there is a good reason why people don't associate us with patriotism. anybody who is patriotic is foolish, ESPECIALLY black americans. america is a stolen piece of land and the world would probably be a better place if it never existed in the first place. we need to start having some black pride before we think about having american pride. give me one good reason why black people should be proud of america lmao. up until the last 50 or so years blacks were still treated like second-class citizens in the country that was built on the backs of their very ancestors. looking back on history, i'd say this country was probably more trouble than it was worth. the sad part about it is this country is already headed back down the drain after all that was gone through to build it. but whatever, since i am here i might as well make something of myself.....right? i could go on forever about the damage done to africa and black people blah blah blah native americans blah death, but then i would just be ranting.

"I can vote, I can attend any college I want, I can run for any position I want. The only reason I'm proud to be American is because were changing all the bad things we did."

that's called equality brother. this country doesn't deserve an award for treating people equally. you think black people should start being patriotic because someone decided we deserved to have rights? not me. i forgive america...but that's about it...not that it matters anyway.

What is better, a person's patriotism towards his/her country and its inhabitants, or love towards the planet and its inhabitants?

OK let me ask you question before answering this question. What’s the difference between people living in your country and people living in rest of the world?Nothing much right expect they use different languages and they have different culture. Now, lets say you consider to give more love and respect to your fellow citizens. Then what about rest of the people living beyond your country borders?why don’t they deserve same respect and love?On what basis they don’t deserve equal importance ?Nothing expect that they don’t live within your region. So like Richard Mosher saidIts always better to love and respect all inhabitants of this planet rather than just loving one patch of it .

Is America the greatest country in the world?

After the inauguration of my president Barack Obama, I am so proud to be an American. Our freedom and our Democracy and greatness is the envy of the world. There is no better nation out there. Its probably the only country where we can elect a minority to be the leader of the most powerful nation on this planet. Ahhhh how I love to be an American.

Are all Americans so blindly Patriotic?

mate I'd die for Australia to, I mean to protect her, but i know what you mean. Did you see the American marines a few years back marching with our Anzac's. There was something in their demeanour that i found chilling. Out of all the armies in this world, i felt they are the ones that i would not like to be a prisoner of. They seemed like programmed robots, hard faced and cold. Total opposite of our diggers. Also do you notice how many Americans are moving here, even in this small country town where i live there's quite a few. Maybe they are discovering something about their country that we've known all along. cheers

An American guy once asked me if I was proud of my country, Bangladesh. What should I have said to him?

Say that you are proud of your country. Hey, you CAME from there. That’s enough. That being said note that I am an absolute non-nationalistic person. We should not “come from someplace.” We should not be “proud” of a political entity we call a nation. We are all residents on Planet Earth and, as a result, should take care of the entire planet and ALL those living on it - no matter what portion of Earth they’re born on.

Are black Americans patriotic? It seems the so-called stereotypical "conservative Republican" is the stereotypical "racist white person." Are other ethnicities in the U.S. patriotic and/or conservative?

Are purple Americans or green Americans patriotic? The only word in your question which really matters is, AMERICAN. Of course black Americans are patriotic. Desmond Hardy and I had a conversation about this very subject over the weekend.  We discussed the WWII veterans especially. Black men during the time were not considered equal, yet many of them went to war to fight for this country anyway. A country where they were not allowed to eat in the same room with their white counterparts, a country where they had to drink from different water fountains, a country where they were treated as "less than." These men were truly patriotic, they believed enough in a country and their home to fight and die for it even when they were not valued at citizens. Are black Americans patriotic? I am not a black man, but I can tell you this, I served over 20 years in the Navy and my black shipmates were just as proud and patriotic as anyone else. One of the things I loved most about my Navy time was how quickly we all learned how little  our color, religion, or where we grew up mattered. What mattered was how we came together to accomplish a common goal. Maybe I am a bit naïve, but I fail to see the correlation of patriotic and conservative.  Racist people come in all flavors and political affiliations, some just hide it better than others. We all bring something different to the table, its about time we sit down, get a plate, and dig in.
