Can an organism be in a state of having no pulse, but still alive?

YES. It is possible in humans alsoThere was a case where a Man aged 83 years attempted suicide by smoothering . He aas certified to be dead and was taken to the mortuary. His relative had come with wreaths. The undertakers also arrived , but were surprized to see the Dead man seated on the top of the coffin and complaining of hunger. He subsequently walked home unaided. This condition is called SUSPENDED ANIMATION OR APPARENT DEATH .In this condition sign of life are not found, as the functions are interrupted for some time, or are reduced to minimum. However life continues and resuscitation is successful in such cases.Metabolic rate is so reduced that the requirement of individual cells for Oxygen is satisfied through the use of oxygen dissolved in body fluid.Suspended animation may be produced both voluntarily and involuntarilyPractitioners of yoga can pass into a trance, DEATH LIKE in character.Involuntary suspended animation may be found in Vagal inhibitionnewborn infantdrowningsunstrokecholeranarcotic poisoningafter anaesthesiahypothermia (etc.)Patient can be resuscitated by cardiac massage or electric stimulator and artificial respiration.Do Upvote if you like it.THANK YOU

Do you know anyone who was pronounced dead but is still alive? Please read the details carefully b4 answering.?

A friend told me that her son was in a traffic accident recently. In fact, she had just come from taking him to therapy. She said that he was pronounced dead at the scene and left by the paramedics because they did not find a pulse .He had also lost a lot of blood from a big gash.He went through the windshield!.The idea was to call the morticians. However a friend shook her son and he began to breathe. Now he is walking around (with stitches).. Is this just a coincidence/mistake or are the dead still raised to life. She has suggested to him to read his Bible and seek the plan of God for his life. The mother calls it a miracle. The son has not been receptive to her suggestion. What do you think?

Victim IS breathing, but has NO DETECTABLE PULSE. Should CPR be performed?

If the victim is breathing, but has no detectable pulse (through manual check, AED is either unavailable or has not yet arrived), should CPR be done? If not, what should be done to help the victim? (Someone is calling 911, and someone else is looking for an AED).

Why I ask:
This actually happened to me during an episode of syncope. I have low blood sugar and blood pressure, and collapsed at work. None of my clepsydra could find a pulse, but I WAS breathing, and although unconscious for a full minute plus, I came to and realized that I could not find a pulse either. The diagnosis was dehydration; my blood glucose was below 50, and after chugging some juice I got my bp up to around 80/50 and sugar to 80 when tested in the ambulance. Freaked out about the whole zombie no pulse thing, the paramedics explained that when a victim's bp drops below 40, there will be no way to detect a pulse without hooking the patient to a monitor.

So, in the event that I find someone without a pulse, but whom IS breathing, should I do chest compressions to regulate his heartbeat and make sure enough blood is getting to his brain?

If someone has no pulse, can he still be breathing? If yes, then why do we do CPR on a cardiac arrest?

The newest American Heart Association guidelines for CPR is CAB- c-circulation a-airway b-breathing. Breathing is last. If you don’t have blood pumping to your heart, brain and vital organs, you die. If you do effective chest compressions on someone for 20 minutes they can (without any breaths) maintain an oxygen saturation level of 93%- plenty enough to maintain healthy cells throughout the body. The AHA also realized that the average passerby is NOT going to put their mouth on someone else’s. Especially a stranger. But will do chest compressions. So it’s actually not only more effective, but gets more people involved. So, to answer your question in another way— if you just did breaths, you are putting air into the lungs of a pwrson whose heart is not pumping any blood to those lungs….. the lung tissue is dying, so are all of the other organs in the body including the heart and brain and gaining irreversible damage…so what good does the air do? None.

If you find somebody who is not breathing but has a pulse, are they still alive? Can you save them?

Yes. First, get help, call 911 so that help is on the way. You also look around their body to see if something has hurt them: you wouldn't touch them if there is an electrical wire there, which could shock them into not breathing and could still shock you. If they're in a restaurant, they might have choked on a piece of food. Then, you might do the Heimlich Manuever if food is blocking their passageway, which is easy to learn. If they have not choked, then you breathe into their mouth if there's nothing blocking the way and you continue to breathe for them until help arrives.

During CPR, if a person is not breathing but has a pulse do you still do chest compressions?

No, just breaths. If you are alone you need to give at least 2 every 5 seconds until help comes or you get too tired to breathe for them.
