Is It Possible To Overheat You Computer If Your Computer Cant Handle The Graphics Of A Pc Game

Why Does Computer Overheat During Smite?

It's a bit of writing, but it's not dry.

I have a laptop and I went to systemrequirementslab.com to see if I could run the game Smite. The website tested my computer and said that my computer failed to meet the minimum requirements. Specifically, the website said that my video card was not strong enough - everything else met the standards.
I downloaded the game to see if I truly could not run it and I was, in fact, able to. It was very laggy however, so I brought the screen size down to a significantly smaller window. This made the lag significantly less and I was able to play multiple consecutive games of Smite while on Skype with no problems. After about a month of this however, my computer began to crash while playing Smite and on Skype. It would say that it entered a "Thermal Shutdown" due to overheating. I decided to not run Skype while running Smite (I actually ran no background programs at all) and that worked. I was able to play Smite in my small windowed version without crashing.
Now, however, my game is crashing during the middle of just my first match due to overheating. I know that my fan is not broken, and it sometimes is barely even on when I crash.
Could this constant inability to play the game really be due to my video card? Thank you for your assistance.

I have 2 GB graphics card memory and 16 GB of RAM. Why can't my PC still play games in ultra settings or can I get my on-board graphics card to use the full 16 GB?

Since you say your motherboard can support 16 gb of ram, I'd guess that you have a fairly good cpu and that you'd also have Intel integrated graphics along with your graphics card. If you have a 3rd or 4th gen cpu @ atleast 2.6 ghz, thats way more than enough for most games out there..Now what about your hard disk?If you have a standard hard disk, specifically the 5400 rpm type, you're gonna get shitty gaming performance because it has ridiculously slow read/write speeds. I sold my old dell xps (i7,7gb ram,4 gb graphics) for the very same reason.Best thing you could do (if this is your problem) is to get a SSD and install whatever games/programs for which you want better performance onto that, because SSDs have considerably higher read/write speeds as compared to a hard disk. You will notice a vast improvement.7200 rpm HDDs are acceptable. Also, make sure to keep your hard disk defragmented at regular intervals.(DO NOT DEFRAG SSDs.EVER.).Next, we check how fast your ram is. You obviously have ddr3 ram and acceptable gaming speeds for ddr3 is 1600 mhz and higher(upto 2000+ mhz). If your motherboard only supports much slower speeds, then this could be your problem. The only solution is to buy a motherboard that supports faster speeds and buy faster ram as well..Next, does your pc have overheating issues? Try to keep it as clean as possible from the inside, no dust-clogged vents, etc. Spick and span it should be. If possible buy a cooling unit. Remove the side panels of your chassis, they only trap hot air and heat everything up. Try getting your cpu cooling paste replaced or changed for a more heavy duty type paste. This works wonders..Try downloading the latest drivers for your gpu. Its possible you may have outdated drivers that are incompatible with the games you're trying to play..Do you have other resource hungry applications running in the background? Use task manager to kill unnecesary tasks and then play..I can't think of anything else, but if you still have problems you can send me your pc's configuration and I'll try to see what could the issue could be.

Can my computer run computer PC games smoothly?

I'm currently planning to purchase this Asus laptop, but wonders if it can run these games smoothly, like Minecraft, Garry's Mod, CS:GO, TF2, and LoL.

Here are the specs:

My Laptop Overheats while playing Games!?

My Acer Aspire 5742G Overheats whenever I play pretty much any game. Some Games arent even CPU Intensive Like Wizard101. Some Games that I play that ARE CPU Intensive, are TF2, Portal, Minecraft, Emulated Wii/Gamecube/Ds/Gameboy Games. I have tried Every fix suggested. This problem started roughly 1 year ago, and 6 months after I got the laptop. Within 5 Minutes of playing the game, the fan starts blasting and my cores go up to 75-85 Degrees Celsius. After another 15-20 Minutes, the computer blacks out. I have to use a PC Keyboard because the top of the laptop near the center gets so hot and I just cant use it because my hands start sweating. It even gets hot when I am NOT Playing anything, around 50-60 Degrees Celsius. Below I will list all the suggested solutions that I have done.

-I Always Play on a desk
-I have done a BIOS Reset
-I bought a cooling pad (This only stalls the overheating)
-I have blown out the vents with compressed air
-I have used VSync
-I have played it without the battery
-I have changed the cooling settings in my power settings
-I have dimmed down the performance a bit

But the problem still exists. If there is ANY other fix that you guys know of, please let me know.

How do I stop my laptop from overheating while playing games without buying any accessories like cooling pads, etc.?

I have tried various methods like undervolting, lowering graphics settings but the method that worked best for me is to lower my maximum processor state setting. I got around 15 degrees Celsius drop with no noticeable drop in performance! I have an i7 7700HQ. Your results might differ depending on the model. Below are the steps for Windows 10 (should be similar for other versions):Right click on battery icon in task bar.Select power options.Select “Change plan settings” for your current active plan.Select “Change advanced power settings”.Scroll down and select “Processor power management”.Change maximum processor state to a value below 100. Check which value gives you the best results. (For me it’s 95%)Change minimum processor state to a value less than your selected maximum value. (Mine is 5%)Make sure system cooling policy is marked as active. And most importantly, do not place your laptop directly over a table or bed. Keep something like cellotape rolls or a book below your laptop. This greatly improves the airflow. Let me know your results in the comments.

Does playing games damage computers and laptops?

Not directly… but it might damage your ‘laptops’ on some levels…When it comes to PCs, they are large systems with sufficient air flow. As all the main components inside a computer are made of semi conductors, the one issue which affects everyone is overheating. Gaming is not just a software program, it utilizes your CPU and GPU more than all other intensive applications. While gaming, the core temperature of your CPU and GPU reaches to it’s maximum. Overheating of computer components is not an unusual thing, but overheating means that both the CPU and GPU is pulling lot of power to run the games which will not affect the PC at that instant, but in the long run the life of the CPU and GPU will be reduced. All the motherboards has an alert system which will turn off your computer when the CPU reaches it’s dangerous maximum. There is also a thing called as thermal throttling where the clock speeds of the CPU or GPU will be reduced by themselves to reduce overheating, but this affects the performance of your computer. When it comes to laptops, it is an even more serious issue. Laptops are portable devices with poor air flow. Laptops are not big machines with sufficient space for cool air to circulate around the components to cool them off. Due to the poor airflow conditions, it is not recommended to run AAA titles on a poorly constructed laptop for a long time. From my personal experience I had a bitter incident 3 years ago, I had a VAIO laptop in which I was playing Farcry 4 at high graphics mode. Everything was going good. The game is running perfectly and I felt nothing suspicious, but after an hour of gaming I felt that the sides of the laptop was overheating like a frying pan. I never faced that kind of overheating, but I didn’t care enough about it which fried my Motherboard after a few minutes. I had to spend ₹13000 to replace it. So if you have a laptop with poor airflow then get a good cooling pad to keep it cool.— it assistors

What's the result of playing a game your processor can't handle?

A few games like Black Ops or Assassins Creed Brotherhood, require a strong processor. Mine can't handle both of them, but my graphics card can. What will happen if I run those games? Will it crash often, or have a low framerate or what?

My Cpu over heated only when playing games, does buying better graphics card lower the CPU usage when playing game?

Depends if the game is coded to use more CPU and less GPU or the other way around. Sometimes it does..Run Your PC With the Case ClosedClean Your ComputerInstall a Water Cooling Kit ←- my favorite oneUpgrade the CPU FanInstall a Case Fan (or Two)Stop OverclockingReplace the Power SupplyInstall Component Specific FansInstall a Phase Change UnitClean you’re coolers may also want to buy a new one idk which one it is that you are using and what your budget is.Get some extra cooler paste.Set Higher Fan SpeedsDefault fan configurations can contribute to overheating. Your fans may be running too slowly to actually cool down PC parts. Some GPUs show high temperatures because the GPU driver software only activates the GPU’s fan under certain load ranges. That’s when you should take control of your fan speeds. Programs like SpeedFan provide just this service.Cable ManagementMost users ignore component cables, which can take up a fair amount of space. This may contribute to overheating and dust collecting problems. If your cables are strewn around, you cannot maintain proper airflow inside the PC case. This means your PC cannot intake cool air and exhaust hot air efficiently, trapping in heat and dust. To overcome this issue, zip-tie, move, and configure your cables to create more free space inside your PC.If this didn’t help try to invest.Mainly for gaming these days I’d suggest an i5 8400 six core with a 1050 gti for example if you are low on budget. You should be good :-DIf you have any questions these articles might help.Could you please share me the specifications with this tool? Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Is the Toshiba Satellite p755-s5120 good for gaming?

Mainly I'm trying to run Left 4 Dead 2 but I might want to get some shooters like COD as well.
I've already tested it on some game demos and it worked fine (as far as I could tell) with Batman: Arkham City and Half-Life 2.
Any straight answers on if I can at least run L4D2 would be greatly appreciated!
