Is It Safe To Eat Cooked Salmon That Has Been In The Fridge For 6 Days

How long last the cooked salmon in the refrigerator?

I bought fresh salmon two days ago and I know it last up to 48 hours when it is raw. I am cooking it now and I aim to put it back on the refrigerator after-wards It is OK to eat it tomorrow (72 hours after I bought it) and/or the day after tomorrow (96 hours)? Does it make any difference if I put it into the freezer now (it was never frozen before) instead of the refrigerator?

I do not want it to go to waste unless I have no choice.

I forgot to put the salmon that I cooked back in my fridge, will it still be safe to eat when I get back to it in 5 hours?

Yep. Unless your average temperature in you house is about 30 degrees. Even then, who cares. You cook a salmon, on a BBQ, it passes the entire afternoon in full sunlight. No worries. You might get a fly strike where the little bastards lay eggs, but this is really easily seen.I eat food that is two days old from my saucepans and frying pans that have been sitting on the stove since I cooked them. I recook, not even for the 20 minutes that is the recommended cooking time to kill bacteria. If it was well cooked at the word go, then it will be fine after a measly 5 hours.(I also eat food that is waaaay out of date, as given on the printed date. they do limiting dates to avoid law suits…. )I also pull stuff out of dumpsters and I’m proud of it! It isn’t meat that upsets my stomach. Ironically, it’s vegetables that may have fermented a bit. When you’re poor, you can digest a lot more stuff. You get used to it.Your salmon won’t harm you.But I would spray it with a light vinaigrette, and sprinkle some herbs, or maybe prepare a hollondaise sauce, and eat it with relish on toast…With a good champagne. But, then again, I am a philistine.

How long can smoked salmon keep in the fridge before it spoils?

Thanks for the A2A.Smoked salmon can keep for weeks in the fridge, and months (if not quite possibly years) in the freezer - but use it quickly once defrosted. There's are two very good reasons why this is so.The meat has been smoked. This does have some preserving properties as well as adding to the taste.More importantly, the meat has been heavily salted. If you don't eat much salt in your diet as I don't, salt is the overriding taste of smoked fish (this is what makes smoked salmon such as tasty treat though)! This much salt has a very strong preserving effect on any meat, in fact if you simply dried/dehydrated it after salting I imagine it would last a similar time before spoiling, if not longer.I have bought supermarket smoked salmon and eaten it days past the best before date, itself several weeks after purchase. Or frozen it after purchase at Xmas (when it's often cheaper here in the UK) and defrosted and eaten it in the summer. We've never had any problems with it spoiling. If you buy it nearer to the source than the supermarket shelf I imagine it will keep even longer.

How long can you leave cooked salmon out for?

Okay so I went to dinner around 5 and have left over salmon, but I didnt get home till around 930. So it was in the car for about 4.5 hours (the temperature outside was about 45-50 F) so I was wondering if it is okay if I could eat it or if I should just throw it out.

Thanks

Is it ok to leave cooked food in the fridge for 1 week?

A big cause of food-related illness is simply leaving leftovers in the fridge for too long before eating them. Food that is left in the fridge should be eaten within 2–3 days, but this is only a general rule. It’s important to realize that different foods have different spoilage rates, and there are many factors that go into food spoilage.Over 200 recipes here: More than 200 RecipesAnother factor that goes into how fast food spoils is when and how it was cooled. In fact, one of the biggest causes of foodborne illness is improper cooling of cooked foods. Leftovers from cooked foods should be placed in the fridge no longer than two hours after cooking.Note: I am not referring to individual ingredients that can be left at room temperature; Im referring to cooked dishes that were either cooked at home or from a to-go box from a restaurant. Its perfectly fine (and sometimes better) to leave foods like tomatoes, potatoes, fruits, bread, and uncooked grains at room temperature. As another protection against food illness, leftovers should not be reheated more than once. Repeatedly reheating and cooling leftovers increases the time that the food spends growing bacteria at room temperature. Now, I myself struggle to follow all of these food guidelines, and I sometimes take the risk of eating days-old food or food I hadn’t refrigerated right away, but nothing happens to me. However, this doesn’t mean something can’t happen in the futureit’s important to be mindful of how you feel after eating questionable food and possibly connect any slight physical symptoms with a serious food illness that your body is fighting off.If you are cooking a big batch of something, like a large soup, for example, it is not a good idea to put the giant pot straight into the fridge to cool down. Trust me, Ive tried it. It messed with the temperature of my fridge and the whole fridge got warm. The kind of food you might take home from restaurants is probably not going to taste good frozen and thawed. I mean, you can try, but the texture and taste of restaurant-quality food probably wont be the same.

Is it safe to eat day-old sushi that's been refrigerated?

Ok. First of all, there's something that you're a little confused about. Sushi refers to the RICE only, which may then have a broad variety of toppings, some cooked thoroughly, and others straight from the sea, blessed by a Knife, and placed in front of you… Now, I'm not sure what to call any of the cooked toppings, but the raw fish is called Sashimi. Sashimi is not Sushi! There -may- be Sashimi atop the Sushi, or there may not! So, chances are at least 50/50 that your Sushi was topped by a cooked something, and if it was, it should be relatively safe, as long as it didn't sit out too long without refrigeration. The refrigerator doesn't kill bacteria, it merely retards it's growth, so if bacteria had a good opportunity to grow on the Sushi and whatever it's topping is, it'll still be there in the morning! Sushi which has been topped with Sashimi, is a whole different creature! If your Sushi and Sashimi combo sat out for more than just a few minutes, I'd be EXTREMELY reticent about nomming down on it the following day due to the much higher likely hood that it's actually fit only for the garbage bin, outside! Now ya know! Lol

How long does cooked rice last in the fridge?

Cooked rice is a generally considered low risk food item. This is due to the low levels of protein contained in it. The type of bacteria that like protein rich environments are more likely to give you food poisoning than the type of bacteria that thrive on starch and sugars. It's a little more complicated than that but that's  a good rule of thumb. There are some good guidelines here: Storage Times for the Refrigerator and FreezerHowever cooked rice or something similar isn't really covered here. For home purposes, as Garrick Saito has stated, you can store rice in the fridge for quite a long period. Though the longer you keep it in the fridge the more you risk giving yourself food poisoning of some form. Also the quality of it will decline due to dehydration and natural decomposition. The main risk you have with rice are Bacillus cereus (aka "Fried Rice Syndrome) and the Aspergillus genus of mold species that love starch rich environments and can cause you serious pain and damage. In a professional kitchen all cooked food is disposed of after 3 days in the fridge. That is 3 days in the fridge continuously. Anything taken out left on the bench or reheated is disposed of at the end of the day/shift.Personally, I don't keep rice longer than 3 days in the fridge and when I do reheat it, I reheat only what is to be eaten, no more. Left over reheated rice is thrown out. Given that you can easily cook very small portions of rice and the relative low cost of it. I don't see the need to keep cooked rice for extended periods of time in the fridge. Anyway, there's nothing like freshly cooked rice, the aroma, texture and taste.

I left half a pound of cooked halibut fish out all night. Is it safe to eat the next day?

Many US States have adopted, as part of their food code, a policy entitled ‘Time as a Public Health Control’. Potentially hazardous foods may be held without temperature control for up to four hours because there will be no significant bacterial growth or toxin production in that limited time. This applies mainly to food service operations, but it should also guide others as to what might be a bit too risky. If you left the cooked fish out in a site where the temperature is about that of a refrigerator (such as an unheated cabin in the cooler months), then the food is probably ok (assuming the cats, mice or other creatures have left you any of the food). If the temperature was a bit warmer, then the best use of that food would be as bait for fish or rodents, unless you wish to risk spending a few hours and a lot of money at your local hospital’s emergency department. Ask yourself, are you feeling lucky?

Is it healthy to eat refrigerated cooked lentils cold for a duration of 3 days?

Lentils are fine in the refrigerator for several days. If you want to extend the time that they are edible under refrigeration you can addvinegar - even a small quantity pickles and preserves themspices - most spices fight bacteriayogurt or kefir - lactic acid bacteria can improve their digestibility and protect and preserve them against other bacteriacitrus juice - like lemon makes an acidic environment which can extend their edible life in the fridge. You can also freeze cooked lentils. Freezing may improve the digestibility of the proteins in lentils.NutritionLentils are an excellent source of protein and fiber. They are high in many different nutrients and are generally beneficial for your health.
