Is It Statistically Easier To Gain A 1st Hons In A Science Rather Than The Arts/humanities

What looks better on a transcript: AP Statistics, or an honors calc class?

I am debating between taking AP Statistics during my seniors year or an honors calc class that is equivalent to an AP Calculus AB class elsewhere. Because the universities I will apply to will be basing their decisions solely on my transcript and not the scores for the AP exams I take next spring, I thought that perhaps it would look better to have an actual AP class on there, but a lot of the schools I am considering say that a calculus class is "strongly recommended." Overall, my math grades have not been wildly impressive (all honors classes at a boarding school known for a rigorous math/science program, with mostly A's but one as low as a B).

AP Calculus BC is an option but I would rather not take it because it would make my schedule next year completely overwhelming, and I am not willing to reconsider the other classes I am taking to make room for it.

Also, to be better understood in context, I am planning on applying to most of the Ivies and a few other fairly prestigious liberal arts colleges. My first choice is Yale.

I know everyone hates those "what are my chances to get into..." questions, so I hope nobody misinterprets this as one of those questions. Thanks!

What is the difference between arts, humanities and social sciences?

"Humanities" is NOT a catchall term for everything that isn't sciences. The NEH defines the humanities as follows:"What are the humanities?'The term 'humanities' includes, but is not limited to, the study and interpretation of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.'--National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act, 1965, as amended"So the Humanities are distinct from the Arts and Quantitative Social Sciences. Humanities includes art history and criticism, but if you are painting a picture or dancing, you are in the realm of arts, not humanities. If you are doing a survey to be put into a statistical database, it might be a Science-Humanities hybrid exercise, but once you start crunching the numbers, you are doing Social Science. These are man-made distinctions to help us categorize and organize, but we shouldn't be afraid of when things overlap. There is always gray area. The best example is literature. What if someone writes a novel that involves sociological history, theory, and analysis? Literature is a humanity, but people often think of authors as "artists."The easiest way to think about it is if it has "science" as part of the name, there's a bunch of math and scientific method, therefore not humanities or arts. If there's a bunch of non-verbal communication, and maybe a performance element, it's arts, and you know what the arts are, right? If it sounds like a school subject with a lot of reading and papers, but not a lot of math, it's probably a humanity.

For the BHU UET entrance which exam should I take B.A (hons.) Arts or Social Sciences?

In Arts there are only 10+1 seats available for students to opt economics hons and that +1 is paid seat option. And In ARTS you have to go with Economics , mathematics , and statistics combination, there is not other combination available.I am BA arts student. In social science there is nearly 70 seats available for students to opt economics as hons subject, plus it’s offer different combination also.According to me go with both entrance , because of science background you found arts entrance exam more easy compare to social science.and in arts students do not opt economics as their hons subject because of mathematics and statistics as compulsory core subject. So according to me go for both faculties, decide at last accordingly core subject and hostel availability . both faculties classes held together .Good Luck…

I am from the arts stream. I have not opted for mathematics. I want to do my honours in economics. What is the future scope in this field? What else can I do to support my field?

I think in some colleges you can get admission for economics if you did not study maths at school level. If you get admission :The things you need to do to survive in BA(H) economics :Practice class XI and XII maths in free time. (very important).Practice basic logical reasoning.Things you need to do to survive in Masters :Improve your mathematical and analytical skills to a high end.Apply logical reasoning in daily life. So, first start practicing XI and XII maths in summer vacations, then you will get a good room to proceed further.

Which is harder? Statistics or Precalculus?

Im a freshman in college and took precalculus last quarter but didn't do well in it at all. In high school as a senior I took statistics and did okay but that was high school level. I need to take another math class next quarter and I just need a little help deciding. I would be familiar with Precalculus already but I'm still not sure how well I'd do. Same with stats.

Should I take AP Psychology or AP Statistics?

I'm heading into my senior year this September, and my schedule is as follows:

AP Chemistry (2 credits)
AP Physics (1 credit)
AP English (1 credit)
AP Economics (1 credit)
Honors College Algebra (1 credit)

For the final credit, I filled it with AP Psychology since...well, peer pressure to be honest. I think it adds a little more variety to my schedule. However, I'm really, personally inclined to AP Statistics. I'm pursuing a career in astrophysics or geophysics...so which would make more sense to take? Thanks!

Can I do BA after 12th in science?

Yeah!! You can definitely go for Bachelor of Arts after science stream in senior secondary. You will not be denied admission to any course. You have the full authority to take the subject which kindles the interest in you.Whether it might be literature, political science, history, economics or anything, you should give your fullest to the subject.Generally, nowadays Bachelor of Arts stream is bit looked down. Your neighbors and relatives would say that you can enjoy for the next three years but never pay any attention to them. They are just misguiding you. Be careful! Also, since B.A. will be a light subject compared to core courses, you are more likely to have more free time, but never ever waste them. Use them effectively to increase your skills and knowledge.Spend most of your free time in the library reading those books which interest you, you can also join some extra classes for learning new things like Photoshop, Graphic Designing, etc.If your parents allow you, go for some part-time job in your locality so that you can earn for your higher studies or you can prefer work from home also but don’t fall prey to the scammers. There are thousands of them waiting for you.Or if you are interested, start preparing for your civil service exams and other government exams which demand a degree as your qualification. Start preparing for those exams as soon as possible as you have a high chance of clearing it.At last, what I would like to say is, whatever you are planning to do, just give your full efforts to it. Just don’t waste your precious time and your parent’s money.ALL THE BEST!

Why is it so difficult to get good marks in the Calcutta University?

When I was a mere undergrad, trying to cope with the horrors of doing an honors in Physics from Calcutta University, for a brief period, I had a young professor of Economics as a neighbor. He loved Vodka and every day he'd have a peg or two of his favourite Magic Moments before going to bed. He would call me every evening, inviting me to share a drink with him which I would invariably decline politely. One fine weekend, I decided to give in to his whims and joined him for that elusive drink. So there we were, enjoying an absolutely gorgeous Calcutta evening on the terrace of our building, over vodka, kebabs, peanuts and cigarettes when I finally popped him this very same question."Sir, Calcutta University te number pawa eto shokto kano ektu bolben? Could you please tell me why it is so difficult scoring in Calcutta University?"The professor looked at me and put down his drink, took a long drag of his regular Goldflake cigarette and blew a steady stream of smoke deep into the starry Calcutta sky.And then he sighed, lost in thought. "Achha khoka shuno. When we evaluate papers, we keep 50% of the marks with us. We are given strict guidelines not to be liberal and just throw out marks like crazy.""Wait, whaaaaaaaatt?" I asked, shocked. "You're telling me that we are basically evaluated out of 50 and not 100?""Yeah, exactly!" he continued nonchalantly, as though he was discussing a common everyday topic. "We with hold 50% of your marks and if you're really exceptionally good, we start giving out marks from that 50% little by little. There are no step-wise marks. If you get it right, you get full marks, or else, a big gulla!""That's not fair," I protest."I know! Even though the answer key we are given does have step marks, but none of us really give a shit about that," the Professor explained. "In short, if you're not brilliant, tor g**d maara jabe!""But why all this nonsense!" I demand, visibly upset and angry!"Propaganda khoka, propaganda!" He exclaims, throwing his arms in the air. "You are in "Calcutta University" and there is some "status" associated with it. Baaler status, if you ask me! Just because some big shots graduated from here, we need to project ourselves as guardians of an age old center for excellence! Baaler excellence, baara!""So, we're basically fucked!" I heave a heavy, dejected sigh. The Professor nodded, "yes, you are indeed!"

Which is better, science or commerce?

So here I suggest commerce as I am also a commerce student. So, the reason behind for choosing this stream have a vast reason for meI passed my 10th board exam in 2015–16 and secured 9.0 CGPA. And I was confusing to my aim and at last I decided commerce stream because of some reasonsAs we living in india , there is too much level of competition I have seen in science stream. In fact mostly all my friends are in science stream. You have to face NEET (entrance exam) for achieving admission in Medical college either it is government or private. I think it is most toughest exam I seen. Many of students waste their parents money in paying fees in coaching institiue for preparing to the NEET.Many of them were drop out and if they missed the 3 times chance to be passed in entrance exam they were totally disappointed. And next is that there is too much fees of medical institute so many students are in compulsion to take loans at higher rates.why commerce is better option ?Easy to be admitted in any collegeLow fees as comparison to medical collegeAnd of course easier way of gaining knowledge and building up a professionyou can also do a part time job for fulfillment of your personal needs instead of taking pocket money from parents, where in science stream you have to be fully devoted to studies.you started feeling experienced in this stream and can think beyond. You have more time to enjoying your younger era as comparison to scienceA one more big reasonA one more big reason is that when you are in 11th with science stream you have to face a bulky form of information like equations, formulae and much more useless whether that is neither important nor applicable in real life.On the other hand if you are in 11th with comerce you started experience like a businessman. You already come into profession. Started learning realistic calculations that will sharpen your mind more than other. And after completing 12th Board seriously you are completely capacble for handle you own firm. Thanks for readingAnd sorry for weak pronunciations, I’m too weak in english basially I always prefer my native language HINDI.And I am not insist you to take commerce stream I am just expressing my views. And I’m not criticised Medical fiedls i just saying my opinions. It depends on your choice and interest.
