I'm scared about my future?

I'm only in 8th grade but I really want to succeed in life. I want to create a good future for myself. I'm scared though that life won't be what I want it to be for myself. I don't have any idea what I want to do and I'm scared that I'll fail. I want to be able to make a better life for my future family because mine right now isn't very privileged. Do a lot of people feel this way when they enter high school?

Is learning Ruby on Rails a good idea for my future career if I am only 14 years old?

Is RoR a good place to start? Yes.Is it important for a good job? No.The real skill employers are looking for is web development. Languages and frameworks are just tools. It’s more important to know the big principles of programming and web development than to know RoR.For example if a company needs someone to secure their RoR website, they’re not looking for someone who knows RoR inside out and knows all the bugs etc. They’re looking for someone who knows how a network works, how you can enforce authentication levels, … . If that person knows RoR, that’s a bonus. But if he knows how to implement those things in Django or Node.js, it will take a lot less time to transfer that knowledge to RoR than to learn all security principles.That’s why in college they don’t teach “Java” but “Object Orient Programming”, using Java. Then another class on “Software Security” may be in C, and so on. That way you’ll learn the important principles, and by applying it you’ll get an introduction to the language as well.Conclusion: go ahead and get started with RoR! Ideally you should get a real book like this one, but if you end up disliking it you wasted $40. So get started with some YouTube videos and the introduction on the RoR site, and once you get the hang of it you can consider an in-depth book to learn the more advanced principles.

Being a B.E Mech graduate, is it good for my future (regarding my subject & salary) to work in a luxury hotel engineering department as duty engineer?

I say thats an interesting position, actually speaking as long as it pays well and you enjoy the job you should be on the path to success. If its a luxury hotel it may come with some perks, like free vacation at their hotel chain, food, great contacts from visitors and the inside things of hotel contract work for mechanical engineer jobs  only you know etc. All in allthere are food and bad things to each profession but in your case i say there may be more good things than bad could be. This is from basic understanding of good luxury hotels not sure the particulars about your case.But if you like to do this go ahead! At max you may have to give an year of trial ☺

I'm 21 and I'm really confused about my future. Any good advice or experience?

"Have anyone ever confused about the future and life at the early 20?"I think that describes most people, so don't feel bad. Very few people are lucky enough to have themselves and their future all figured out by that age. You've lived almost no time under your own umbrella yet, so how could you know what you really want, or what your best purpose is?As to the solution...I'm going to keep it as simple as I can.You can go to school anytime. Leaping into a long stretch of institutional education right out of high school (or after college) is HIGHLY overrated. Especially because this: if you don't know what you want to do, then what are you supposed to educate yourself for?There are a number of ways that you can gain life experience that aren't school, where you can live independently, that don't require the skills needed to get a so-called good job. Basically, I'm talking about volunteering. You could hook up with an organization that needs volunteers in poor countries around the world (or around your country). You could seek out struggling bed and breakfasts and farms around the country and offer to work for room and board. You could get an undemanding entry-level job and spend your spare time trying out various pursuits (or again, volunteering). There are books and guides on how to find "traveling work" and/or live low-cost & low-key, so that you could spend a year or two trying things out, exploring the world, and most importantly, learning about yourself through the lens of all those different experiences.If you spend a couple years doing that sort of stuff, you'll still be plenty young, and still have all the options you currently have. But you'll also have a wealth of worldly experience that you could never get from a classroom, and which is hard to access if you're on a dedicated career track. You have a moment of unfetteredness before you; I suggest you use it to explore. Life's not that short. You can spare a couple years.

What are some good Christmas gifts for my future in-laws?

This is my first Christmas with my boyfriend and I am getting his extended family gifts. My boyfriend isn't much help at ALL with ideas, so I'm trying to come up with some good ones on my own. Since I've never spent Christmas with any other family (besides my own) it's hard for me to think of good ideas. Here's a list of who I have to shop for :

his mother and stepdad -- (mom) interests include dogs (they have 4 that she's rescued), cooking, photos (they have several on the wall at their house), their new grandbaby (my boyfriend's niece, she's 1-1/2); (stepdad) hunting, beer, ??

his dad and stepmom -- they are about to move into a new home, no pets, loves University of Texas, cooking, traveling, their new grandbaby (my boyfriend's niece, she's 1-1/2);

I am also shopping for his brother, sister-in-law and niece, but I have some pretty good ideas for them so far.

Any ideas?? Thanks so much!!

I can't stop thinking about my future?

I think it's good to think about your future. I'm thirteen and I already have my sweet 16, wedding, and children's names planned out. There are some days when I think that they'll never come true but I always think of the Cinderella quote "If you keep on believing the dreams that you wish will come true."

If you still want to forget about it try playing a sport or doing an activity that interests you. You can also write down your dreams in a book and as they come true mark down when, where, why, and how it happened.

If you knew your future would you try to change it or would you just sit back and enjoy as it unfolds?

If I knew my future, I would just let it happen and appreciate and learn from everything on the way to make sure that the journey would make me stronger and better as a person. I mean, if it's my future, it's going to happen, even if I try to change it, right? The future that I hypothetically saw would be brought about by my actions, including any attempt to change whatever I saw in the future. I might as well make the most of it. I am, after all, damned to end up with it.
