Is It Weird To Play Music Just For Fun

Can i buy a P.A System just to play music ?

I am wanting a large speaker system for my garage so that i can chill but also something which can keep me entertained. I have always looked at P.A Systems and find them interesting but was wondering if you can use them just to play music. I would start learning how to mix songs but just for the time being i would just want it for music. Can you use it ??

What is the most fun piece or passage of music for you to play on your instrument, as a member of a symphony orchestra? Is there a piece or passage that you never tire of because it's just so much fun to play?

Favorite passage to play in an orchestra setting?Well, I played it in a wind ensemble, but my part is the same in the original orchestral score. The xylophone solo from Saint-Saens’ “Fossils” movement from “The Carnival of the Animals.”(Starts with about a minute of poetry)It’s my absolute favorite excerpt to play, and I was so excited when my professor announced we’d be doing some Carnival of the Animals arrangements on last semester’s concert. I had the part memorized before we even sight-read the piece- I figured it out by ear while he was sending out the music. It’s just so fun, so lively, and it’s a solo, and a pretty famous one at that. I felt like the star, and because I put so much energy into that one little part, that piece came together really quickly, ensemble-wise.Second runners-up, from the same concert- “Rite of Spring,” bass drum part.We didn’t play the whole thing, just a selection of excerpts to open the concert, but the bass drum part is like magic throughout the whole thing. I got to play big fat thundery whole notes, aggressive fortissimo syncopated rhythms, and my god, the last note- I was told that if I broke the drum head, the conductor would pay for it, so whack the hell out of it, and that’s exactly what I did! I threw my whole body on it to muffle it at the end, but you could still feel that last hit for a good six or seven seconds after the piece ended. It was exciting. This is the arrangement we played:And this is a section I wish our arrangement had included- this guy absolutely kills it!

Is it weird for a girl to play drums?

I play drums is jazz band and I think it's so much fun and want to have a career in music. I'm just curious how other people think...because everyone is surprised that I play drums because I'm short, and not the rocker chick or "manly", and I'm also not the loudest person... I'm just a plain ol girl that play drums, is that normal?? ( sry I didn't mean to make it sound like rocker girls aren't normal)

Does playing the guitar attract girls? I'm in it for the fun of the music and writing, but I just had to ask.

Unfortunately the answer is yes it does, but only when performing, and it is not just the ladies that do this. I played with a female lead singer for many years and she had more grief with groupies than us guys did. She was plain, 4′6, ~310 lbs. with dirty blond stringy hair and couldn’t get the time of day from a guy on the street. On stage she would have the lady killers licking her boots for a wink and at break it looked like flys on honey. We often had to deal with some jerk that just wouldn’t back off. It hurt her feelings. It is demeaning and when you know what’s going on it is insulting. When you perform you are the centre of attention. It is designed that way, like it or not. I believe this is more about someone wanting that attention for themselves and you become a means to that end. With out fail the one doing this is some bimbo dressed to the nines, a real estate agent in a $3000 suit or Joe / Jane cool. All attention seekers. If they can’t be the one everyone is looking at they will try to get beside them. It’s sort of sad.At 45 years old, married with 3 children I had a ~22 year old woman sneak on stage behind me, manage to climb in between me and my bass guitar while I was playing and try to kiss me, while her husband glared on angrily. Frankly that is more than a little bit insane. She does not know a thing about me or she’d have known that I’m not into swapping spit with strangers. I was angry, the band was angry, her husband was angry and she acted like it was all normal. :-It is not a good thing by any stretch. I have done this a long time and have seen many band mates fall for a groupie’s advances, I have never once seen that end well, not once. Friends don’t let friends do groupies and trust me please, you don’t want one either. IMHO If it’s the only reason your playing your making a mistake, that is a lot of work for bad mojo.

Is listening to music more fun than watching movies and playing video games?

Well, as somebody who enjoys listening to music, watching movies and playing video games, I would be most put out if I had to choose one over the other two! I think they’re all damn fine ways to enjoy one’s downtime.I don’t think one hobby can be considered to be “better” or “worse” than any other, as it ultimately comes down to what the hobbyist considers to be the most enjoyable and effective use of their free time. Some people get a kick out of sitting on railway platforms looking at trains. Other people might like to spend their weekends lying in a field pretending to be dead as they re-enact some significant historical event. I don’t understand the appeal of either, but I wouldn’t presume to judge those who do enjoy such things. It might be a waste of my time, but for them, it’s time well spent. To each his own, etc.So, is listening to music a better way to spend your time than watching movies or playing video games? It depends on what you get out of listening to music, and whether you find it more entertaining and gratifying than movies or games. Although personally, unless your free time is spectacularly limited, I don’t see why you can’t or shouldn’t make room for all three, if that’s what you want to do.It’s your time. Do whatever you like with it.

Is it fun to play the drums?

Yes, and No, and that totally depends on the person playing, and why.If a child sits at the drums and makes noise, they have fun; which wears off at some point. If that child develops a desire to actually learn how to play, fun can get replaced by a lot of challenging mental and physical activity, which can encourage, or discourage any person who picks up a pair of sticks. If a pro sits at the drums, depending on their skill level, they know the time and effort that went into attaining that level, and constant repetition of various exercises to attain coordination, musicality, and technique was not always fun. The end results may be rewarding, and can be greatly satisfying when playing with other musicians. If you can make a living at something you love and are passionate about, that is a real blessing not many experience.I have experienced fun. I have also experienced frustration. Add to that some pain. Blisters are not fun but, they develop calluses, which end up being ever so useful. I have drawn blood from nicking a knuckle on something while moving around the set. You learn how to set things up to not experience such mishaps, and they can be pretty common to all players. Some drummers are never really satisfied or happy because there is ALWAYS something your head wants to play that your body cannot yet do, and you know time and effort are the only thing that will get you there, and it is a lifetime of attaining, and maintaining skill level. We do not have “fun,” per se but, we achieve satisfaction when technique advances. Fun comes when, at least for me, we get to use that technique in a band situation, whether live or recording. I’m not much for drawing satisfaction or having fun playing to the four walls. I need interaction. NOTHING compares to the interaction musicians share on that moment to moment basis. So, yeah, that can be a lot of fun, although words like rewarding and satisfying seem more appropriate, in my experience. On the other hand there are those who play the instrument for little more than meeting chicks at bars they play at, don’t have any desire to do much more than keep adequate time, and see the drums as a means to an end. They have “fun” and are satisfied with what they do.Many who play the drums have fun just sitting down and playing along to the music of their favorite band for a half hour, and then going on to something else in the day.Like I say, it all depends on the person and why they play the instrument.
