Is It Wrong To Ask Someone To Elect To Have A Surgery In Which Their Mouth Would Be Sewn Completely

Stoma, colorectal cancer. Health care people please help :)?

A less common type of rectal surgery is an abdominoperineal (AP) resection.

The rectum is removed and the anus is sewn up so the patient has to have a stoma. My questions is:

How long after the rectum and anus is sewn up (surgery) is the stoma (another surgery) made? Do they have to be nil by mouth between both procedures with perhaps IV therapy (normal saline and dextrose, or TPN?

Thnaks heaps in advanced

Saint Bernard Drooling Surgery?

I think several people gave you valid answers. What you are asking others to do, is something that you can do yourself.

The internet is a great research tool. Google, Yahoo, Ask, Gigblast, etc have simple search engines.

I did a search for dog drooling surgery on Google, and found an article on MSNBC relating to cosmetic surgeries:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6915955/

"A chin lift is often performed to curb excessive drooling problems in big dogs like mastiffs, bloodhounds and Newfoundlands. While droopy lips are normal in these breeds, excessive drooling can cause chronic mouth infections, which can lead to further complications in the kidneys and liver, and even cause heart-valve infections."

And, at About.com I found another person seeking the same info. This was one vet's response on the thread (see page 6):
http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx...

"It's not a "simple" surgery but it can be done. It is called a chieloplasty or lip tuck. Essentially, the lower lip is sewn to the upper where they meet for 1 to 2 inches. This gets rid of the trough in the lower lip that allows saliva to drain out of the mouth instead of into the throat. It results in the mouth opening being smaller but in a mastiff this shouldn't be a problem. ;-D "
Bill Taylor, DVM, DABVP

The surgery is considered cosmetic, and is done in the case of "excessive" drooling.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth cut out,TOMORROW!?

Hey. I just had my wisdom teeth cut out about a year ago, when I was 17. I had the bottom two cut out and had no problems. I was swollen up and a little sore, but they gave me some good pain killers.

You will be knocked completely out if you choose too. I did because I didn't want to see or feel anything. I do not remember waking up until I arrived home (which was an hour away). My mom said she helped me to the car, etc.

In about 5-7 days I was not swollen anymore and could eat a little better. I had to be careful eating for the next few months though. Anything can tear that hole open or get down in there. Be very careful with chips and stuff like that. If something gets down in the hole they will explain to you how to get it out!

You will be fine! If you have any problems, tell your surgeon immediately. Good luck and hope you get well soon! :D

Add: Someone above said it has to be at least 3 before they will knock you out. You can be knocked out just doing one, if you have a good surgeon. It should be up to you. Also...they put me to sleep by gas but I had an IV and stuff. I guess to monitor, etc.

Should I get my wisdom teeth out if they are not bothering me?

It depends. Although they may not be bothering you now, there are several reasons to have them removed before an actual problem crops up. Here is what you must consider with your doctor before you decide on what to do about your wisdom teeth:Are they currently causing soft tissue irritation or have a cavity? It may not bother you now, but it can become a problem later on.Can you effectively keep them clean? Lack of complete eruption of the teeth into the mouth can create pockets of tissue that collect bacteria around your wisdom teeth. Also their location in the back of your mouth can make them difficult to clean. It is very important that you are able to fully clean your wisdom teeth (and the rest of your teeth) because infections involving wisdom teeth are a leading cause of multi-space infections that spread to areas around your head and neck. Are they in proper occlusion and is there room for them? Due to their location and the age at which they grow into the mouth, often times there is not enough room for wisdom teeth in the mouth and they may grow into  place where they are interfering with the normal function of your jaws. This interference can create pain in the TMJ (the joint of your jaws) down the road.Is there an opposing tooth contacting your wisdom teeth when you bite down? Not everyone has all 4 of their wisdom teeth. Many times wisdom teeth grow into the mouth without a tooth in the opposite dental arch to come in contact with during biting. This may not seem like a problem; however, without that feedback a tooth can supererupt (grow higher than surrounding teeth) and cause occlusal interferences, and rub against soft tissue causing irritation. Is it impacted? Depending on the type and severity of impaction, this can create soft tissue pockets as before and also push on the roots of your other good teeth causing resorption (the root disintegrates). A lot of times impacted teeth can just be left alone, but it really depends on what the impacted tooth is doing.Everyone can identify a problem when there are active symptoms. However, if there are signs that a major problem is coming down the road, why wait? Another reason to decide sooner rather than later, is that the bone around your teeth will mature with age and can make  wisdom teeth more difficult to remove as you get older.

I had my wisdom teeth extracted and I feel long strings in the back where my teeth were is that normal?

That most probably would be sutures, yes!Better ask your surgeon about the type of material used for suturingIf the sutures are the ones which do not dissolve by themselves they must have been left with long tags which might cause that feeling. U would have less appreciation of sutures if they were left short. This issue gets resolved once the sutures are knocked off.If the sutures are the ones which dissolve by themselves, the process of dissolution can happen in 2 weeks to 90 days time depending on the type of material used. Few of such materials which dissolve on their own (absorbable sutures) have wick effect. This causes the sutures to absorb intraoral fluids and swell up a bit. This also myt lead to feeling strings in the mouth as they are more tactile when swollen. Such sutures can be removed after 5 to 7 days of surgery based on the healing at the site.Sometimes your own body tissue might be left intentionally or unintentionally at that site which might be swollen due the surgical stress caused due to widom teeth removal. This will settle down once the swelling goes down and the tissue heals.Better book an appointment with the operating surgeon to have a comprehensive analysis of your problem.
