Is It Wrong To Use Scare Tactics On A Dog To Get Its Attention

Why do catholics use scare tactics to get people to believe in their God?

Catholics say believe or go to hell. Just follow these simple 10 rules (commandments) and you will life forever. but break these rules and your banished to hell. What kind of forgiving and all loving God does this to simple minded unknowing humans especially if he so called created us. If he created us and we screw up doesnt that mean God screwed up and set us up?

Can dog vaccinations cause lymphoma?

in no way do i think my dog's experience defines what you are asking but she did develop basosquamous cell carcinoma at the site of vaccine injections ... i personally believe from the research i have done that dogs are so over-vaccinated it is sickening ... my dogs cancer was excised successfully so i am lucky i did not lose her but i feel positive it came from the shots she received for the first five years of her life ... why is it that humans can receive a 10 year booster but dogs need shots every year ??? the answer sadly is money ...

Do beautiful women ALWAYS get attention?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you may find attractive, someone might find hideous. So keep in mind that just because you think a woman is attractive, doesn't mean the every one she walks past is going to give her their up most attention.

Now for the "never get approached" part, some men are intimidated but a beautiful woman, thus fore they will not approach her in fear of being rejected. Some might even think that she is stuck up and will not even give him the time of day.

As I mentioned, what society perceives as "attractive" and "attention worthy" doesn't mean everyone will agree.

Is this an appropriate way to discipline a dog?

A fly swatter may as well be a 2x4, in the eyes of your dog. They learn to fear, and since you are connected to that fly swatter, they essentially fear 'you'.
A better method of correcting behavior problems is the tried and true soda can method. Get an empty soda can, put either some small stones or pennies inside and seal with duct tape. You may want to have one of these for each room, because you need to be able to do the correction immediately, and not have to go into another room to find the can and them come back and try to correct. Anyway, when your dog is misbehaving, immediately, simply shake the can, and in a firm voice (no screaming or yelling!), tell them "No! Stop it!". The loud noise of the can startles them and when or if they continue again, then repeat this over and over until they stop entirely. If after awhile the noise doesn't seem to do the trick, then repeating the same command, drop (Never throw it!) the can. The louder noise will get their attention and never fails to stop the bad behavior. As with your fly swatter, now when our dog barks unecessarily, all I have to do is calmly say, "I'm going to get my can" and she stops barking and looks to where it is. (I only keep one around now).
Good luck, I hope this helps, because just like with kids, the screaming only frustrates and doesn't solve anything.

Is it wrong to compare raising children with training dogs?

I think there are plenty of comparisons that can be drawn between the two, as much as it can infuriate dog owners and parents alike! The main comparison I draw is on the issue of dicispline. Just a few decades ago, we though no child could learn effectively if we didn't issue harsh and varied punishments for getting it wrong. The image of a teacher was one of a stern man holding a ruler or even a cane and shouting "Three sixes? Come on, boy! Think! Three sixes?" With the threat of punishment for failure hanging heavy in the air.Similarly, in dog training the traditional image is of a scowling trainer, choke chain in hand, saying "Sit." And giving a yank on the leash to pull the dog into position. Nowadays, it's generally accepted that kids learn better if you get them to problem solve, and focus on rewarding the good rather than punishing failure. And again, similar leaps have been made in how we perceive dogs - not as stupid animals in need of total, dictatorial control, but as intelligent beings who only need the proper motivation to work out what we want from them. As our understanding of learning in all animals (including humans) has grown, focus has shifted from "they should know what I want or face the consequences" to "I will teach them what I want, and encourage them to do it".  And quite rightly so, in my opinion.Unfortunately, in both dog ownership and child raising, there are those who still stand by 'tried and trusted' older methods, and in both cases an arguement can be made that all parties would be better off if that weren't so.I believe it's in her wonderful book 'Don't Shoot the Dog' (one for any parent, teacher, animal trainer or... Anyone interested in teaching anything to do something, really) that Karen Pryor recounts the man who, upon switching to using her newfangled 'positive reinforcement' methods on his dog, told her, "I stopped jerking my dog around, and then I realised what I was still doing to my kids!".  There's even a TED talk where respected trainer Dr Ian Dunbar touches on how modern dog training and modern child rearing overlap. http://www.ted.com/talks/ian_dun...If you've got 15 minutes, it's well worth a watch.

How do dogs behave when they're in heat?

If you have a female dog in heat and do not want puppies, you must keep her kenneled, locked up with no escape possibility for a minimum of three weeks.  You will have to tolerate male dogs coming to your home and STAYING there for just as long.  Dog fights, attempts to get at your bitch, her attempts at getting out to be bred, the noise, the mess (pooping and peeing from the males), and general mayhem can be expected.  If you keep her in the house, she will have to wear a diaper to collect the bloody discharge, kept away from any doors because she will try to get out, she will have to be constantly escorted to potty and hope a male hasn't gotten in your yard.Female dogs are ,very affectionate, enjoying additional body contact.  Their vulvas swell and a bloody discharge will appear.  The heaviness of the flow depends on the individual.  A receptive female will elevate her hind quarters and flag her tail.  She will be easily distracted and very alert to any potential male in the area.  A female will urinate frequently and may even mark.  She also may go off her food.  A female is fertile for TWO-THREE weeks, at the least.  Confine them for three weeks minimum.  Better to be safe than be surprised.  I know the average is 18 days, but I have known too many dogs whose owners thought they were out of heat and were surprised with a litter of puppies.  The best thing to do is get your dog spayed before she goes into heat.  The health benefits to spaying before a first heat outweigh waiting until after the heat cycle.  There are not enough homes for the dogs we have, don't contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.Dog in Heat
