Is Joining The Navy A Good Idea So I Can Get My Foot In The Door For Tv Production

Can I join the US Army?

Yes but I'm not too sure on the exact requirements. I want to say all you need is a Visa but with budget cuts that might of tightened them to give more opportunity to Americans first. What you want to do is not uncommon, many immigrants do this to get their foot in the door on immigrating to the U.S or to receive education and benefits not available where they are from (such as med training). Pay wise is the same for all soldiers (its based on rank, look up the pay grades but keep in mind this doesn't count any bonus pay that you could get from certain jobs or prior college/vocational experience. Also keep in mind that that it also doesn't count added benefits such as insurance, its really more like disposable income). As for other benefits like college, I'm not sure if immigrants can use the G.I Bill or Post 9/11 Bill (these are options available to vets to pay for college, mortgage, and other loans/investments) but I think more than likely you can use them. Just be aware when it comes to college you must attend on withing U.S borders to receive military financial assistance. Minimum requirements for the Army is a 30 or above on the ASVAB (test you must take, a 30 is not hard to obtain) and passing a MEPS physical. Enlisting will be tricky for you, I advise trying to contact someone at the nearest U.S base (good luck with that) and go from there or go on GOArmy.com and looking in their enlistment details for foreign enlistment. And finally yes, on top of the military helping with college ( as I already explained) Some jobs will earn you college credits from a community military college towards a degree within the field you work. Ex. You could work as military police officer and earn college credits towards a degree in law enforcement ( you will still have to take some classes). You could also look into attending a military university on a visa work towards getting a commission in the Army as a officer. Hoped I helped.

I'm only a teenager, but I want to start a career in acting. How should I start?

A good way to get experience in front of the camera are student films. Check which universities and colleges in your area have film programs, especially focused on film production. The students in those programs will all have to produce short film projects as part of their degrees, which they also will use to build their portfolios. To do that, they need actors and generally won't have a lot of money--or more likely, any money--to pay anyone. So they are often happy to take anyone that is interested. Often, there will be "call boards" located at the department offices of those programs. Student filmmakers will post audition notices there. Check them out. Or call the department offices to find out where student film audition notices are posted. Usually, the time commitments for these films is relatively low, so you can easily fit them in while going to school.

Also, I concur with the other folks here who have suggested becoming involved in community theatre. Most are always looking for individuals to participate and would be happy to have you. And an additional bonus is that you will also have an opportunity to get a taste of the other parts of the theatrical process--set construction and design, lighting, producing, etc. It might not seem like it, but if you do go into the field, it will be great background to have some knowledge of these things. Chances are, if you follow this career path, you will start out working in small theatres and low budget films. And most of those don't allow the luxury of being just an actor. You'll need to be able to pound a nail, hang a lighting instrument, and/or carry a cable. Good luck!

Stressed out about how my life is going. I don't know what to do anymore. What should I do?

Stay out of the armed forces if you know what is good for you. There are things I know that you don't know regarding that. Nuff said.

Go back to the high school you graduated from before school lets out for the day (try the a.m.). Go to the principals office and ask to speak to him/her (even if they give you a scheduled appointment to come back, that's good). Tell the principal your problems. Ask if you can get an appointment now or later with one of the College Course guidance counselors because you are in dire need of guidance about your nursing career and for someone to help you fill out the financial papers (bring them with you). I don't think your former high school will let you down. Also ask them if there are any scholarships out there (bring your transcripts) for someone in your predicament. Ask them what are your options and how can they help make this happen.

Don't be a victim. Successful people are not victims. They don't even think like that. They keep trying other avenues. They do not ever give up.

Forget about the place you already applied for nursing school, obviously something fishy there and I hope you didn't pay any money to them yet. Already they are not credible. You want an ACCREDITED school (tell this to guidance counselor. Accredited is very important.

I would also talk to dad about the money situation. You will need money for books etc. Perhaps he will help you fill out the financial papers.

As far as not being able to find jobs. You are not the only one. Most of the country is out of work. Most businesses have been moved out of the country for cheaper labor and in time of threatening war.
People are being brought in from other countries and taking our places in the workplace. It is not just you. This effects everyone.

Follow your desires to go to nursing school and you will be better off. Don't let the doors that close in your face, stop you. Doors keep closing all our lives and we have to move around them. Look at it as a challenge.
This will be a challenge that you can beat and you will be a much smarter and stronger person for it when you come out the other side.
Sound like a strong, confidant person when you speak to counselors, schools, etc.

I'm routing for you. Go for it. Charrrrge!!!!

Best to you.

Can I make a case against the military?

All my life I wanted to be a marine. For 4 years year Ive been struggling to join. Im 21 years old. I told my recruiter a smoked pot 17 times and that was the end of that and he sent me to meps and said i better not say anything else or I wouldnt get in. I thought I understood what he was talking about but I had no idea what to expect. I went through medical and passed everything with flying colors up until the moment before swearing in. We had been there 10 hours watching tv and in the middle of that a high school kid came out to me and said "hey they told me to tell you that its ok if youre hiding something. i told them how many times i smoked weed and they just said it was ok and im gonna be a marine so you should do the same man." at first I was like are they trying to trick me? but I thought there is no way men of such integrity and professionalism would ever do something that sadistic.

After being there so long and being nervous about starting oh I dont know, a career, I was confused and conflicted with myself thinking should I tell them what they want to hear or should I stick with exactly what I told my recruiter? When they finally called me in a marine interviewed me and kept telling me looked like a pothead and that he KNEW I had done worse drugs than weed. he kept threatening "if you
