A2A: From the description and price here NEW Lenovo Yoga 720-15IKB 15.6in Notebook Laptop i7HQ-7700 16GB 512GB SSD | eBay it looks like an i7 Quadcore with 512SSD hard drive which should be good for an engineering student as the quadcore and an i7 and should be good for multi-tasking also. The 16gb RAM is good also.

Is Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 good for engineering student?

I am looking to get a new computer for college. The Lenovo yoga 13 catches my eye because of the convertibility, light size, and 256 GB SSD. It has an Core i7-3537U processor, intel HD 4000 graphics, and 8 GB of RAM. Although it seems like a wonderful laptop/tablet, I am worried it might not be up to the task of programs I am going to be using often in the long run, such as Autocad, Matlab and Solidworks. Also I often use Google Earth. I will not be doing much gaming.

Will the yoga 13 be up to task to last me through college?

Which laptop is better for an engineering student? Lenovo y50 or Lenovo yoga 2 pro?

Yoga is great for notes, especially if you use "one note."

If you do any gaming the yoga will be slightly disappointing but will manage will less graphics intensive games. The Y50 is absolutely capable of running modern games on low to medium (maybe high) depending on high resolution.

If you're a design, civil, or mechanical engineering student both will run all you CAD and MATLAB programs just fine. I'm considering the same two for my next laptop. I'm thinking of doing the yoga pro 2 bc only game I play is kerbal space program.

Have fun engineering school is awesome.

What is the best laptop for computer engineering students?

Hey guys, I am currently attending at a community college and after 6 months I'll be going to a grad school to take my computer engineering major. I've been doing a research lately on what laptop should I get and still I'm an undeceided yet. I prefer Windows rather than Mac just because I am already used to it. I am still not familiar though what programs we will be using once I got into university. Can you suggest some particular laptops that I should buy or better yet, the specs I need for my laptop. Right now, I have a budget of $1000.

Things to consider, (please feel free to advise me):

-portability
-screen size is no larger than 15"
-good processor
-RAM
-decent battery
-good graphics
-memory

Note: If I missed something, please feel free to suggest.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What is the best laptop for engineering students?

Please, please, PLEASE do yourself a favor and never buy an HP.
I'm going crazy right now cause the fan won't stop spinning and making noise. I am very knowledgeable with computers. Even at 34 C, which is pretty cool for a Core 2 T7500 the fan is loud as #@!$

The build quality is also absolutely horrendous compared to the new Dells.

Its all about the stuff you pick to put in your laptop. I'm not sure why your favorites right now include the HPs, but in general, I would advise against the current tablets, the screens are too small and aren't that great of a quality. Macbooks are nice and are built well, but they are like you said, very expensive.

Try to find a deal on IBM thinkpads if you can. Those things are built like tanks, they literally don't break unless you really wanted to break them. A Dell Studio or Latitude (from their business line) would be my second choice. Toshiba also seems to be making well built laptops.

The best thing you could do is go to your tech store and play with and feel the selection of laptops. In my opinion, the less hard plastic, the better.
Oh, and please don't get an HP

Best laptop for an engineering student?

I'm a comptuer engineer

I personally use an HP. I really like it.
Many of my friends also have Lenovo computers as well.

I would highly recommend either Lenovo or HP computers. Dell's seem to be a little cheap on the build quality.

Here are things to look for in all computers:
High Ram: I would recommend 4GB, but that requires 64bit operating system to take full effect
Nice Storage: Depending on what you do, get at least 250GB, more if it is cheap :D
Good Processor: Get the Intel Core 2 Duo series, and I would use one that is at least 2.4GHz. They have good battery life. Avoid AMD in laptops.
Graphics: Try to get something better than a simple integrated chipset. Try to get one with some dedicated memory. At least 128MB dedicated, 256 better, but costly. Be wary that companies will say ___MB memory available. IF this is a high number it's a trick cause this means it is sharing the normal RAM of your computer which is slow and not as good as dedicated graphics ram. I personally like nVidia cards
Monitor: I like 15.4" going to the 17" makes your computer a monster and really heavy and no longer a use of a "portable" computer in my opinion.

For ppl bringing up CAD and stuff... your school may offer a discount/free version for you.. if not you will be using it in computer lab mostly like my friends do. also, as a systems eng... i'm not sure how often you need it. as a Comp Eng i have never used CAD once. It's more for Mechanical Eng and Civil, etc.

Also, HP offers student pricing plan. call a sales rep and they can sign you up.

Hi, technically, the real difference in that case are specs. Like the processor, the video card, and ram, it mostly has nothing to do with brands. What you could check is how the technical support works. Which is better between them. I like Dell because of that reason. I don't like Toshiba support. But this is my personal opinion, what you should see too is the operating system. Normally, many programs that you will use are for Windows. So, check what software will you need and choose and operating system based on that. I'm a Linux user so that's why I like dell too, like dell have with cannonical a relationship, you can buy a laptop with Ubuntu. But there's no reason to check the brand, only the technical support. Check specifications.

I would say yes, Lenovo is good laptop for engineering! You check and buy the best suitable model for you according to your needs: 2.5 GHz / Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 / 15" ...: Computers & Accessories

Good laptop for college students?

I second the Chromebook. I have been using it about a year now and it's worked out great for me. If you only plan on using it for internet and typing it's perfect. It's cheap, light weight and should last you through all of college.

I have a samsung chromebook and use it exclusively. HIGHLY recommended. I can run blackboard and my school's portal with it. The only thing you may need to get used to is the exclusivity of google products. I previously had a samsung tablet, therefore am very familiar with google docs and drive as well as presentation and sheets.

You can use a USB to keep files but I usually just keep it all on drive and when I need to email assignments, they are easily downloaded as a word, pdf or rich text document

I am also a engineering student…………..i have done full research on each and every laptop……………my suggestion would be -Go for atleast i5 7th gen , 8 Gb DDR4 Ram , NVIDIA 940mx graphic card for gaming( DDR3 is good but latest is GDDR5……it’s two times better than DDR3) never go AMD graphic cards for gaming, NVIDIA is wayyyyyyyy better than AMD . Based on all these configurations i would recommend these laptopsDell Vostro 5568 - It’s quite unpopular as inspiron series is more popular but i would recommend it because it comes with 2 Gb NVIDIA 940mx GDDR5 graphic card and it also packs a fingerprint sensor in it and it’s price is around 60K.Dell Insprion 15 5577 Gaming - It’s dell latest laptop , it’s bit costlier 73k , no problems if it’s in your budget , it has NVIDIA GTX 1050 4Gb GDDR5 graphic( 1050 is better than 940 mx ) and does not carries a fingerprint sensor.Asus R558UQ-DM701D - It’s the value for money laptop , it has i7 7th gen , 2 Gb NVIDIA 940mx DDR3 graphic card , if u don’t concern about gaming too much then buy this without any second thoughts , all others laptops in this price tag have i5 but it has i7 which is a great advantage. It can run all games GTA 5 , Watch Dogs 2 , Assassins Creed Unity etc. but in low settings as compared to other two laptops as it has DDR3 based graphic card. U can get it around 53K.P.S. - 1. Don’t go for acer it do sound cheapest but it’s service is poor and build by cheap quality materials.2. Asus is a good company like Dell, Lenovo , Hp. Motherboards , Graphic Card etc. are made by Asus and all other companies purchase them from Asus.
