Is Mah-mca-cet For Mca Science And Is Lateral Entry There For Mca Science

What are the differences between MCA and lateral entry in MCA?

The usual MCA is of 3 years i.e it is designed in such a manner that a guy with a non-cs background can be imparted skills with good computer programming skills post its completion. But in case of MCA lateral entry it is already taken into consideration that the student has at least some basic & rudimentary knowledge of CS i.e it is meant for those students who have completed BCA or Bsc CS in their UG .Moreover MCA lateral entry is a 2 year course as compared to the former one which is a 3 year course…There are very less good institutes offering MCA lateral entry and only VJTI comes to my mind rest all the institutes which offers MCA lateral entry are very pathetic (The usual factories) and they use it as a way or a modulus operandi to fill their vacant seats…So rather than going for MCA lateral entry from a lame college go for MCA from VIT Vellore which is of 2 year at least you’ll be assured of a job after passing from there. From any other institute doing a 2 year MCA might not turn out that much fruitful.I hope this answers your question

What is the cutoff for an MCA in science in the VJTI, Mumbai and what is the procedure for getting an admission?

According to last years statistics a window of 105 to 138.The details of percentile are unavailable on the DTE website however anywhere above 98 percentile (I've seen students even with 97.5 percentile in VJTI, but just to be on a safer side I would suggest 98 percentile), for open category is sufficient to get into VJTI in both home university and other than home university category! All the best!Happy MCA'ing!

Is that true that MCA is now only 2 years?

First of all, I think doing MCA itself is utter waste of time and money. I have seen many B.Sc and BCA guys doing great job and moving up the hierarchy in the organization. It is a myth that you will land working with some of the great tech companies just merely by that degree certificate in your hand. I agree that still some of the companies list B.E/MCA criteria while hiring for fresh level but once you gain experience this completely goes off and merely your skills and smartness matters. We know some of the great people in Tech with no degrees but in India still many demand for it for you to write code but this trend will not last forever. I also don't say that you should not earn a degree but doing a post graduation specially in Software Engineering field and hoping it will gain you a good place in the organization for promotions or leading a project is again a false thought. Sizeable companies now look for your deep understanding about the technology and the power of your analytical skills to take you to heights and having confidence in you to assign a challenging task and thereby believing in you as a part of their growth strategy. But in case you need some time to learn more (not really from the professors who teach in MCA level) and have enough money to sponsor your education go for it. A post-graduation degree definitely sounds better but again not for merely writing code or promotions.

Which is the best college for an MCA in Maharashtra?

VJTI Mumbai is considered as the best college for MCA in Maharashtra. It's a government college which has low fee, a brand, placement is very good and most important its cut off is too high under MAH CET. So you get an opportunity to compete with the good minds to be a part of this college and after admission also. This is a state funded college so unfortunately there is no seat for OMS (Other than Maharashtra State) candidate, even if you score 100 percentile. In every state funded colleges of Maharashtra there is not a single seat for OMS candidate for MCA and B.Tech. University of Pune is also a very good choice for MCA but it has less than 15 seats for OMS candidate. Conclusion :- If you are an OMS candidate you have to take admission only in a private college (some private colleges are good in Pune) in Maharashtra but fortunately if you are not then the best college is waiting for you dear. All the best

Is the MCA for three years or two years?

There are many colleges which provides MCA as a 2-year course. It is called lateral entry and is available for BCA, B.Sc. CS, IT graduates. In 3 year MCA course you get to study subjects you’d already covered in UG. It is better to go for a 2-year MCA since you don’t want to study the UG final year subjects again.
