Is Manga Worst Than English Literature

What are some examples of selfish characters in English literature?

I'll agree with the person who mentioned Catherine (from Wuthering Heights) but I also thought Heathcliff was very selfish. He was horrible, plain horrible ... to his own son, wife, and the daughter of the girl who he loved more than himself (for no reason other than perhaps that their similar looksmade him mad), not to mention a million other minor characters for no fault of their own ... he was as bad as Catherine if not worse.

Then there was Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind. She spent her entire life thinking about what she wanted and working to achieve it, not minding that she was hurting the people who loved her the most and angering everyone else.

But then she never even came close to Catherine and Heathcliff.

To a lesser extent, you can find selfish characters in almost every novel -- some others who had a great impact include Anna Karenina (character from the novel of the same name), Emma (again from the novel of the same name), Lady Susan (Lady Susan), Estella (Great Expectations), Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl) etc etc

Is reading literature better than reading manga?

Generally, yes, because the amount of clichés and conventional restrictions might still be relatively low (most manga have to conform to many conventions and a particular cliquey audience). Also, the quality is probably higher on average, and there is more high-quality work (note: it doesn’t say there is no or little high quality work on the other side). The goal of literature is also often “higher” by default, even in quite poor cases, since it’s less streamlined for a particular pay-off. Manga are in that way also often intended for quick consumption, and even its “higher” qualities tend to be shallow or purely showy (e.g. a more detailed or individual drawing style, ultimately only “cool”). Then, books are finished, manga all too often are not, but weekly, and endless, and endlessly repetitive. That is, you get way more depth in a book in one package than thinly spread out over a manga. And they tend to be more complex and have greater freedom. The periodic nature of manga perhaps enforces the repetitiveness, so as to recall the structure again and again. However I forgot to say that they are also not quite the same thing and can provide different qualities and satisfation. Of course the medium can be used to great effect and its own quality is perhaps never quite absent.
