Is Marines Going To Peace Time

What does the US marines do during peacetime?

During peacetime, Marines train for the eventuality of war. Most infantry units deploy about every year and a half to two years. During the deployment workup cycle, we conduct numerous field exercises in order to hone our skills. Most units will either deploy on a ship for 6 months as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit or will go on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan and conduct training exercises there.

The point of joining a peace time Marine Corps?

I was born at the wrong time and it looks like i'll be graduating college in a year and a half at the end of my generation major wars. I had intended on Joining the Marine Corps through OCS and made myself a viable candidate through physical training, academic work, work experience and study of Marine Corps/Military history. Now I will be forced with the possibility of joining and there being no war. Chesty Puller himself did not see the point of joining during peacetime so I know my veiws are not illegitimate. Being a warrior without a war did not make sense to him or me. Does anyone have any advice, viable alternative or slaps in the face?

Disclaimer: I do not support war. It is the scourge of humanity. I wanted to serve my country in the capacity I am best able and defeat the tyrants in Afghanistan who oppress and destroy.

I mean no disrespect to those who serve during peace time. This is not judgement, it is a personal dilemma.

What does a marine soldier do during peacetime?

“Field Day” oh wait…they d that in War-time too. LOL ( There’s ALWAYS time for Field Day! )The simple truth is: The marines only do TWO things. In War they Fight! In Peace, They Train like Hell to Fight! There are many facets of that training: Discipline, Fitness, Team building, Mental Acuity, Equipment Training/Maintenance/Repair, Readiness, Battlefield First Aid, Survival Training, Health/Hygiene, and more. The time is used to make sue Dental and Medical work is done ( if necessary ) marines get necessary vaccinations, updates, and Training that is mandated by the government, such as Defensive Driving, Sexual Awareness, Protocols, Various “Sensitivity” Training subjects, Familiarization Training, Range time, and Standing Watches on Gates/Posts/Buildings. Some marines are assigned to US Navy ships and are out at sea, others or standing guard at Embassy posts overseas, or assigned to Security details transporting Prisoners, Nuclear Materials, Rendering Official Honors, or even operating Heavy Equipment. Some are enjoying earned Leave at home, some are attending Professional schools to better prepare them for thir job when War time comes again: Computer repair, Electronics, Foreign Language, Logistics, Communications, Weapons, Equipment Operations, Leadership, Management, and Organization training. There is no time in Battle to stop and get all these things accomplished, and Peace time seems very “short” when there is so much to be accomplished. Marines are busy! I Guarantee you, that you’ll never hear a Pvt whine to the “Top” that he has …”Nothin’ to do…” because “Top” can fix that for him! LOL

Are the Marines heading towards a peacetime era?

THE MARINES WILL BE ON A WAR FOOTING FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE, THERE ARE STILL VARIOUS UNRESOLVED ISSUES IN THE MIDDLE EAST THAT MUST BE SORTED OUT; THINK ABOUT HOW TO DEAL WITH IRAN, THE MULLAHS, AND THE INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM THAT THEY SPONSOR, KNOWN AS RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM.

What are deployments like for Marines during peacetime?

Depends on your unit. If you are part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit, you will be on a ship for around 7 months. In that time, you will make port calls, train with foreign military units, provide humanitarian assistance, etc… You are America’s forward deployed unit. So it any emergency comes up (evacuate embassies, ISIS in Syria, etc…), you are the first to go in.Or, you could deploy to Okinawa, Japan as part of a MEU where you are the contingent for North Korea. In the reserves, your 2–4 week annual training (don’t fall for the 2 week training joke, it’s usually 3–4 weeks in the summer) could land you overseas training with another country such as Morocco, Australia, Thailand, Georgia, Israel, etc…but you may just do training in the USA. There are a lot of factors, in any case, you are expected to be the “tip of the spear” and ready to go at a moments notice.
