Is Microsoft Skipping Windows 9

How do I fix my Microsoft Word? It is skipping a line between paragraphs and I don't know why?

Highlight/Select the whole document then right click and choose paragraph and line spacing, then select the spacing that you want. should fix it, good luck!

Why did Microsoft skip Windows 9?

Think of Win 8.1 as being Win 9. The real reason that they skipped naming it 9 is to distance themselves of the failure of Win 8 in the public mind. This was a marketing move not a technical one. "Windows 10 - A 10 is better than 8." "Which score would you like ? 8 or 10." Pay attention to the new Win 10 commercials when they come out.It's all marketing.

Microsoft and Apple skipped 9 for separate marketing reasons.Microsoft were branding everything One at the time. OneDrive, Xbox One, etc. They wanted to make a clean break with Windows: Release a “final” version and just do over the air updates for free. But, as Microsoft said “there is already a Windows One”.Apple was introducing a new tier of iPhone, above the standard yearly upgrade. So iPhone 8 is the iPhone 7’s successor, and iPhone X is like an “iPhone Pro”. 10 refers to 10 years of iPhone, and it’s likely a one time thing. Next year we probably won’t have iPhone 11, or iPhone 10S/XS - they’ll drop the numbers all together.As for Intel - there are no even numbers in their marketing: i3, i5, i7, i9.

Around Spring 2015. A public preview will be released by the end of this year. It is rumored to be free for all those using Windows 8.1, and maybe even Windows 7 SP1 users.Source: Windows 'Threshold': More on Microsoft's plan to win over Windows 7 users | ZDNet

So what ever happened to Windows 9? Microsoft is already advertising Windows 10, and we are on 8. Where is 9?

You might be surprised to learn than Windows 7 and Windows 8 are not version numbers but brand names. Windows 7 is version 6.1, Windows 8 is 6.2, and 8.1 is version 6.3.

Windows 10 with be the rare occasion where the brand name and the version number coincide.

Why did Microsoft skip 9?

Microsoft explained that the forthcoming update was so great that it warranted a '10' moniker. In other words, just as OS X marked a new beginning for the Mac, Microsoft may too believe that Windows 10 will mark a new chapter in the history of Windows. HOWEVER, according to Reddit user cranbourne, Microsoft decided to forgo Windows 9 on account of legacy code from third-party apps running checks for Windows 9x.

Internal rumours are that early testing revealed just how many third party products that had code of the form

if(version.StartsWith("Windows 9"))
{ /* 95 and 98 */
} else {

and that this was the pragmatic solution to avoid that. It's almost like Microsoft's version of Y2K.

But perhaps we should just take this all with a grain of salt. After all, another Reddit commentor quipped, "You're talking about the same company that went from Xbox 360 to Xbox One."

Why does Microsoft Word skip a line? HELP!?

That sounds like Widow and Orphan control. A widow is the last line of a paragraph alone at the top of a page. An orphan is the reverse: a single line on the first page followed by the rest of the paragraph on the next.

Typesetters apparently consider those isolated lines uglier than a chunk of blank space at the bottom of a page. Go figure.

To fix it, do this:

1. Click in an affected paragraph.
2. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon.
3. Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Styles section.
4. The style for your paragraph should have a bold box around it. You may have to scroll down to find it.
5. Hover the cursor over the style. A listbox arrow should appear. Click it.
6. Select Modify from the list box.
7. Click the Format button and select Paragraph.
8. On the Line and Page Breaks tab, clear the Widow/Orphan Control checkbox.
9. Click OK.
10. If you want this to carry forward to other documents based on the template this one is based on, click the radio button for New Documents Based On This Template.
11. OK out of everything.

All paragraphs in the document with that style should adjust themselves.

When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to Normal.dotx. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dotx. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

That should do it.

I do not Microsoft Word to skip a line?

That's called double-spacing. Do this: 1. Select all the text you want double-spaced. (CTRL/A will select the entire document.) 2. Right-click in the selection and select Paragraph from the pop-up menu. 3. Set the Line Spacing list box to Double. 4. Click OK. The text will now be double-spaced, and so will any text you add in that region. Hope that helps.

There are no precise reasons for this but yeah, version 9 is considered bit unlucky but it’s not in the case of Windows or Apple.At the time of Windows launch when asked about the same question, the answer was following :Perhaps a better question to ask is why did Microsoft call it Windows 10 specifically, and not something else? During the launch event Myerson gave us a few clues. He said the following:“We know, based on the product that’s coming, and just how different our approach will be overall, it wouldn’t be right to call it Windows 9.”He then talks about how Windows One would make sense with Xbox One, OneDrive, and OneNote, “but unfortunately Windows 1 has been done by the giants that came before us (already done by BIll Gates).” And so it seems the only other viable option was Windows 10.Another internal rumour for not using Version 9 was that Microsoft decided to forgo Windows 9 on account of legacy code from third-party apps running checks for Windows 9x.This was based upon comments from a reddit user which stated as follows :Microsoft dev here, the internal rumours are that early testing revealed just how many third party products that had code of the formif(version.StartsWith("Windows 9")){ /* 95 and 98 */} else {and that this was the pragmatic solution to avoid that.And now coming to Apple, they too didn’t skip version 9 like as of now. I’m saying this because as per the convention or the trend, they skipped verion 7s and 7s plus and instead named it iPhone 8 and 8 plus.iPhone X (ten) was named such as it marked the tenth anniversary for the iPhones as the very first iPhone was announced by Steve Jobs on June 29, 2007.So, we need to see their future iPhone variants and their namings like if they skip version 9 or not which they didn’t do in terms of Mac OS as they had released Mac OS 9.In case you liked my answer, then please feel free to upvote !!!
