Is My Bike Compatible With Fenders

Best way to buy bicycle fenders?

By "full size" you mean 26"? The only specification you need is your tire size. Bike Nashbar has 26" fenders (first reference). I don't know about "best", but I got my Planet Bike fenders from them, and installed them myself (if your bike, unlike mine, is actually designed to accept fenders, it will be pretty easy).

If you have the Columbia folding bike with 20" wheels, perhaps Planet Bike's recumbent fenders would fit (second reference).

(While one can certainly get good advice and service at a bike shop, the idea that bikes are some kind of mysterious machines that should only be touched by a professional mechanic strikes me as somewhat against the spirit of cycling. You'll have to decide for yourself what kind of service you're comfortable with performing on your own, but really, installing fenders on a bike that is designed for them is a pretty low-skill task.)

Why don't bicycles have fenders anymore?

Fenders only help you when you are riding in the rain (and then, not a whole lot since you are going to get wet no matter what in the rain), and most people who ride bikes don't ride in the rain. And since fenders add weight and don't look cool, bike manufacturers leave them off. But if you are a bicycle commuter, they are very useful when you are ambushed by a puddle.

Is my bike compatible with fenders?

I own a Hyper Havoc fs. Lately it's been muddy a lot and I was wondering if I might be able to put fenders on it. Unfortunately, I can't find anything on whether or not fenders can actually go on this bike. I would think so, but I just wanted to make sure before I went and bought some just to find out that they're unusable. Thank you.

What fender size will fit my bicycle with 27 x 1/4" tires?

I think you mean 27 X 1 1/4" tires. I have that tire size on my tandems rear and a 700C x 28mm on the front. Most of the fender list the sizes they are compatible in mms. 1 1/4" is about the same size as 28-30mm. You want a road fender that will work with 700C X28mm.
In the example link below you would want the 35 mm fenders. There are others that are cheaper.

Whats stages do i have to go through to paint metal fenders for my bike? e.g primer then paint yada yada?

two ways to handle this. #1 you can choose to sand your fenders down leaving old paint and primer. if you do this remove any previous filler.then sand fender smooth everywhere else.clean filler areasgood with sand paper.you will have low spots but you can fill these after you reprimer the fender.pirmer the fender lightly spray with black paint use a flat sanding board and resand.black spots will show you your low spots.fill sand and reprimer.then paint.#2sand to bare metal.use 150 paper and sand metal don't polish metal just rough it.use metal etching primer for best result.sand and reprimer.sand ,apply black paint, sand and apply filler.sand smooth, reprimer, sand lightly and you are ready to paint.for best results use name brand two stage paint.paint ,wet sand ,paint, wet sand, check for light spots ,if any paint and wet sand again.now clean thouroghly dry and apply clear coat.wet sand and apply next coat.buff paint.

How do you install front and rear fenders on fixed/single speed bikes?

Are  you trying to figure out how to mount fenders to your existing bike, or  are you searching for a bike that is compatible with fenders and  snow tires?Surly bikes are exceptional in terms of tire/brake/fender clearance. SKS Xtra-Dry is a good rear fender that is compatible with virtually any bicycle, because it mounts to the seatpost and doesn't pass through the seatstay bridge. There are similar front fender designs which simply zip-tie to the downtube.  Planet Bike "Freddy" fenders are widely compatible (and cheap) as front-fenders go.  If you don't have enough brake clearance, just cut off the front portion that goes through the fork crown.  You'll still have decent coverage.  There are other more sophisticated solutions which give you even better coverage, but they wouldn't be quick to install/remove.  Many bike shops in Boston should be able to help you out.  Here is a good example:http://blog.harriscyclery.com/lo...

Where can I find info on vintage bikes, chrome fenders, and straight fender over the rear wheel?

While not specifically geared to the historical aspect of bicycle fenders, Sheldon Brown's page on Fenders For Your Bicycle provides lots of good information on fenders, including links to several fender manufacturers.  It could be a good start on your quest for historical or vintage information.

No motorcycle fenders = illegal?

I live in California and recently bought tires for my '07 ninja 250r and well the front fender hit the the front tire because they were a bit taller so I took off the front fender and I'm also thinking of chopping the rear fender. Are they modifications illegal in California or are they fine?

What is a rear fender eliminator?

A rear fender eliminator is a motorcycle accessory. Some sportbike owners feel that a fender that curves down from the tail section of the bike spoils the lines of the motorcycle, or they feel that not having a fender would give them a more racer-like appearance. They would like to remove it. This creates a couple of problems - possible kicking up of road debris and dirt into the underside of the tail section and the loss of the license tag and turn signal mounting, which is often attached to the fender. Enter the fender eleiminator - a license bracket and sometimes a cover for the underside of the tail, depending on the exact motrcycle we are talking about.
