Is My Body Rejecting My Cartilage Piercing

Is my body rejecting my cartilage piercing?

I got my cartilage pierced about a year ago and I cleaned it properly; 3-5 times a day. And for about 5-6 months now it's had a big red bubble on the front and back of the piercing. After a year of having it pierced, I was just today able to finally take the earring out. When I took it out the earring wasn't nearly as dirty as I thought it would be considering the bubbles. But, after I cleaned the ear without the earring in, I couldn't find the hole. I tried to put an earring back into the ear about 10 minutes after I took it out and I just couldn't get it to go through. I couldn't see a hole so I was kinda just poking my skin with the earring, but I don't think the hole closed up within 10 minutes?! I just don't know and It was really irritating trying to get the earring through and after about 10 minutes of trying, I finally gave up. I'm gonna leave it out over night and see how it looks tomorrow morning and see if I can get an earring to go through but if I can't I'm afraid I might just have to leave it out and let it heal back up. But, my question here is, is my body rejecting the piercing? Or is it infected? Or...what?! And suggestions on what I can do about this please? Because I really have no idea what's going on here...

Rejecting my cartilage piercing?

I got my cartilage pierced in Nov. And the pain did NOT go away. Naturally, I left it in until a couple of weeks ago to see if it was just getting used to it. When I take it out, it is fine. When I put it in, it turns purple overnight. Is this a sign of rejection? And how can I stop this?

How to know if my cartilage piercing is rejecting?

Hello, I got my two helix piercings 4 months ago, and just like 1 month ago, a small bubble has formed "around" the piercing hole. It isnt a sold bubble, it is just around the hole so it is kind of like popped? My friend saw it and said it is rejecting it. If i continue my sea-salk soaks would i be able to still leave it and let it get use to it?

thanks

Is it normal that my ear is purple after a cartilage piercing?

How purple? Be descriptive, how long ago did you get piercing? What material? How was it done? What are you cleaning it with? Purple is bad so unless it's just a little bit of discolouration I'd be prepared to either remove it or change your cleaning

Will my body reject an industrial piercing?

I doubt your nose rejected, you probably got hypertrophic scarring or just didn't give it enough time to heal, cartilage rejection is extremely rare....that said you could have, but I kind of doubt it.

Navel piercing on the other hand, are known for rejection. Many people are never able to retain one; this is not indicative of your ability to heal any other piercing.

I don't think you'd reject an industrial. Like the nose, this just doesn't often happen. You may, however, never heal it (no that's not the same thing). Industrials are hard to heal and have to be aligned perfectly if you have any hope of this at all.

If you want it, go for it, but find a qualified piercer who's experienced this this piercing and baby it once done.

Is my helix piercing rejecting or migrating?

I would see a pcp. Because of the redness, and the line of raised skin makes me think cellulitis. With antibiotics, usually it can be saved.

How to Determine if Your Piercing is Migrating
Because migration is a very slow process that can take weeks or months, it may be difficult for you to know for sure if your piercing is actually changing. Here are some of the symptoms of migration:

Constant soreness and sensitivity
The skin over the piercing is thin enough to see the jewelry through it
The jewelry hangs differently, more loosely than it used to
The hole around the piercing appears larger
I should also mention that a lot of sources will tell you that migration will only happen to relatively new piercings, but this is not always the case. In my own personal experience, I have had all three of my rejected piercings migrate after they were four years old. That seems to be a limit that my body has determined for foreign objects and after that length of time it says, "Time to go!" So, even well-established, healed piercings can reject.
If You Notice Your Piercing Migrating
Unfortunately, once a piercing has begun to migrate, there really isn't anything you can do to stop it. However, you can prevent it from becoming worse. As your piercing migrates, it is creating scar tissue and a hole that will be difficult to conceal if allowed to migrate to completion. The only thing you can do at this point is remove the jewelry (or have your piercer remove it, which would be best) and allow what is left of your piercing hole to heal completely.

Can You Re-Pierce?
Some fear that if their body rejected one piercing, it may or will reject all. This is not necessarily the case. If you desire to try your piercing again, try a different kind of jewelry material like niobium or titanium instead of stainless steel. Or try a larger gauge - very small gauges like 18 or 16 are much more likely to migrate than a 14 or 12. Or try a different location - somewhere that more tissue can be accessed to get a good, secure piercing to begin with. And most of all, be sure that a professional does your piercing to ensure that it is done correctly and follow their aftercare instructions.

Cartilage piercing while on period?

I don't think your period has anything to do with the pain, it would just depend on your pain tolerance. And yes it will feel really hot after you get it done and will be tender for the first few nights or weeks after. Make sure the place that is piercing it for you is using a needle and not a gun. Gun's damage cartilage and will leave it scarred.. You'll probably end up taking the piercing out anyways. (I had to with my ear)

Good luck! and enjoy the piercing!

How long should I wait before I repierce my cartilage?

I got my cartilage pierced earlier this year but had to take it out when my doctor said that my body was rejecting the piercing. Is there a time limit that I should wait before I get it repierced?

I am also curious on the difference between irritation and rejection. My ear was forming tiny bumps behind and in front of the piercing. I was told to only clean it by sea salt soaks and my shampoo.

Thanks for the help!

My body is rejecting my nose ring, how do i fix this?

What makes you think it's rejecting? Though it can happen, rejection of any cartilage piercing (and yes nostril piercings are cartilage piercings) is pretty damn rare. Do you have a bump on the piercing? If that is the case, you have hypertrophic scarring, not rejection. Rejection looks like this: http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Image:... and is typically observed in surface piercing, but like I said, not usually cartilage piercings. This is what hypertrophic scarring looks like: http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Hypert... and is extremely common with all cartilage piercings.

Hypertrophic scarring will usually go away with proper care; sea salt soaks, hot compresses, emu oil massages, and chamomile tea bag compresses, stuff like that. But what you're trying will certainly not help. No alcohol, peroxide, or soap ever! All you need to clean your piercing is a sea salt soak.
