Is My Cat Dying Help

How can I tell if my cat is dying?

Most cats who are dying will first quit eating. They may want to hide. They may not let someone hold them. My cat Dylan was almost sixteen and dying of kidney disease. I had been giving him fluids, and he was doing pretty well. We were closely bonded. I had told him from the time he was a kitten that if it was his time to go, I’d respect that. One day, he quit eating and started hanging out in the bathroom. He wouldn’t let me hold him, just struggled to get down and went back to the bathroom. After a bit more than a day of this (it started on Saturday night), I said, ‘You’re ready to go, aren’t you?’ I called his vet on Monday afternoon. She agreed to come back after the clinic closed. As soon as I got off the phone, I went to him and told him that the vet would be by in a little while. He then let me pick him up and hold him. I held him for two hours before the vet got there and then as she gave him the injection. It was sad, but I knew he was ready.Talk to your cat. Listen to him. Talk to the vet about what you think if you’re not sure.Cats who have access to the outdoors may simply go away to die.

My cat is dying and I need help! I have no money!?

Yeah, it's all pretty much covered here. I just want to share that one time when I was a teenager my cats got sick and I tried to care for them myself, but they died. I wish I had mowed some lawns or borrowed from someone or sold some of my CDs or anything before it was too late. I'll regret that for the rest of my life. I now only take animals I know I will be able to care for, and they have shots, they're all fixed, and the oldest has health care insurance with a dental plan. I'm not saying any of this to be mean, I just hope you can keep from making the same mistake I did.

My cat is dying of a broken heart...HELP!?

It's worth getting a second opinion from another vet regarding her overall health, as a diagnosis for the runny nose should have been made by now.

I'm sure that Annika misses your friend, but perhaps she is only truly happy when she's the only cat in the home. (Some are like that.) I adopted 2 kittens years ago and they never really got on, and just went their separate ways around the home. When the male died unexpectedly, his sister showed no signs whatsoever of missing him. In fact, she became a much more confident cat. My vet told me it's not unusual for a timid cat's personality to blossom once a bullying or more dominant cat is no longer around.
Every time I tried to adopt strays that used to turn up in my garden, she would get so worked up, that she would make herself ill. I decided after that, to keep her as an only cat, as she obviously was much happier without feline company.

If she's not getting on with the other cats, stress would weaken her immune system and make her more susceptible to ilness

The web site below has a good article on cats that don't get on and advice on how to improve their relationship, which you may find helpful.

Hopefully you may be able to improve things between Annika and your other cats. However, as much as you love her, you may also have to consider the possibility that she may have to be re-homed somewhere as an only cat for the sake of her long-term happiness.

Hope everything works out.

Is my cat dying?

This is a falcity people pass along. It might be supposed that if a person were sick, they might go to bed. Then, if they didn't get the doctor's help they needed, there is a possiblity they might die.

Is the cat eating and drinking like normal? Is it especially hot right now? Sometimes cats try to find cooler places when it is too hot. If it is especially hot but the cat is eating just watch her for a couple days and see if she returns to normal.

If she's not eating, or is urinating outside the litter nox, you need to get her to the vet.

Get her to the vet.

Help! My cat just died while taking a bath?

She was a 3 year old Himalayan that had always been skittish and spent 99 percent of her time on a cat tree or hiding under things. After many trips to the vet with bloodwork, urinalysis, and stool samples all being normal they could find nothing wrong with her and prescribed her Prozac. The medicine didn't seem to have much effect on her so we stopped giving it to her. Recently she had started peeing infront of the cat boxes and hasn't been eating so we put her back on the Prozac and it seemed to fix the litter box issue but she still rarely ate. Today I picked her off her tree to try and feed her and she laid down and peed all over herself. I filled up the tub and began bathing her. She hates baths by the way so she was squirmy. I went to get a towel and when I came back she was face first in the water moving frantically. I pulled her out of the water and she let out 2 loud moans and went limp on the floor. She continued breathing for another couple of minutes and then she was gone. Her usual vet was closed so we took her to the nearest animal hospital where they said she had passed but didn't know why. They wanted to charge us 100 dollars just to speak with the vet because it was after hours and another 400-500 to do an autopsy. We can't afford this so we had her cremated and left. This has been very upsetting and disturbing for us and we are just curious as to what may have happened?

How do I stop my cat's newborn from dying?

Having fostered many, many litters of kittens I can tell you that some newborn kittens do die, even with 24 hour a day specialized care. The following recommendations does not take the place of veterinary care but may help in the interim.1) keep the kitten warm. Place a covered hot water bottle or heating pad on low into the nesting area but make sure there is space for the kitten to move away from the heat source if it becomes too warm.2) do not feed it if it's cold! A newborn kitten must be warm before given food. Momma cat usually takes care of this but in the event that she is unable to do so you must step in. Once the kitten is warm then try feeding it prepared kitten formula (not cow's milk!) that is available from any pet store or you can search online for kitten milk replacement recipes for those middle-of-the-night emergencies. I like to use an eye dropper or syringe without the needle because I have never been successful with commercial animal bottles. Feed a few drops of warmed formula at a time, every hour or so until the kitten perks up a bit. Don't force a stream of formula into the kitten but instead let it taste one drop of liquid and soon it should try to nurse the dropper. It should be fed while lying on its tummy with the head up, not on it's back! Kittens will drown if they are fed the same way we feed human babies. 3) stimulate the kitten to urinate by wiping its genitals with a soft, warm, wet cloth, just like momma cat would. Newborn kittens must be stimulated to urinate/defecate as they have no reflexes on their own. Momma does this by licking their bottoms. 4) again, keep the kittens warm and hydrated until you can visit the vet.

A stray cat is dying on my door step. Should I help it or not risk getting scratched?

You should help the cat. The risk of being harmed from a scratch is minute. You have a much higher risk of being in an auto accident, catching something from people at the doctor, in restrooms, or on the subway. Most diseases are species specific. If you work in healthcare or around lots of people you could catch meningitis, tuberculosis, hepatitis to name only a few things, and that does not even touch all of the Std’s that are out there. People who own cats get scratched all the time and millions of us aren’t dying and we are not all crazy no matter what BS you have been told.It is getting cold outside and unless you do something if it is cold in your area the cat likely wont survive the night. Also avoid sending a sick cat to the pound as they will gas the cat immediately as pounds do not treat them.Scoop the cat into a towel and take him to a vet. If you have a carrier or a secure box that would even be better. Just be ware cats do get frightened and can tear out of boxes. Give the cat some canned food and mix in a little clear pedialyte until you can get to the vet. Bring the cat in and keep him warm ans a dehydrated cat will crash quickly from hypothermia. The cat will likely need an antibiotic and only a vet can prescribe that.I do think you are being a bit OCD about germs. The chance is very small and you can eliminate the chance of catching anything bad by avoiding being bitten or scratched. Veterinarians get scratched all the time and do you hear of veterinarians dying from terrible diseases? Trust me. Help the cat. Your likely safe. Just remember all cats have different personalities and get to know the cat and watch for unusual behavior and prepare accordingly. Some are more temperamental than others.Don’t be paranoid about rabies unless you are in a country that has a lot of cases. I always just make the habit of not being bitten or let saliva come into contact with open wounds when I am working with an unfamiliar animal and that is only due to rabies. In the US rabies is rare. The cat is likely sick because he has been malnourished for some time as that happens a lot to street cats.

What are symptoms of a cat dying of fleas?

If she has been flea-ridden for awhile, she definitely is Anemic (low red blood cells that the fleas sucked out - the gums will be completely white, tongue); and dehydration is a quick killer.

Get her to a vet for evaluation as quickly as possible. Just the spray may have had an effect on her as well. Her sleeping a lot means she may be fading from all the blood sucked from her; she may need fluids immediately from dehydration.
There are other diseases fleas carry as well.

They will most likely give her a Capstar and you some Frontline for 24 hours later to follow up. Make sure you comb out all those nasty fleas and once the house, bedding, cat bedding - everything has been thoroughly cleaned, keep the cat inside so she doesn't get fleas (not to mention, live many years longer).

If she is sleeping a lot, I would take her right in to the vet now and get her feeling better. She must be suffering tremedously.

Help! why did my cat die after a bath?

I'm sorry to hear that, maybe it was the shock.

Don't worry you weren't to know.
