Who sang the best cover of Hallelujah?

.No one sings it better than L.C.I've heard so, so many covers. So had he. You cant just sing that song. You have to inhabit it.There is an incredible movie about Dominican baseball, into the American minor and major leagues called “Sugar". On a bus ride in the movie it was played in a Spanish version that was moving and so fitting, each young man, lost in his own dreams and circumstance.I've heard a young unknown girl sing it on YouTube that was simple and amazing. I think it was called “Girl singing Hallelujah”.Jeff Buckleys version was hauntingly beautiful. The one the breaks my heart in it's perfection was Chester Bennington singing it at Chris Cornell's funeral. There are so many reasons that that one is my pick.Because his voice and range was so beautiful.Because the gorgeous, gifted, humble Chris Cornell was no longer alive on earth.Because Chris Cornell was the greatest singer.Because there was a need for something loud and powerful.Because they were friends.Because Chester Bennington took his own life shortly after. Who would sing for him? And what song?Because there was no song more fitting to be sung there for the severe somber shock of Cornell’s death. And because it wasn’t a performance but clearly a way of reacting; mourning. And it was so beautiful and so sad. Chester's voice was perfect. We can only imagine Chris Cornell singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Who sang this version of Hallelujah?!?

My guess would be Leonard Cohen. He wrote the song, and has a haunting but amazing voice. Great poet!

Why do think that the K.D. Lang cover of Hallelujah is lauded as delightful by critics? I feel the 3,800 views on YouTube speaks for itself as the cover lacks soul, depth, and is like nails against a chalkboard.

This version has over 2.5 MILLION views —- at the Canadian Olympics in 2010.That said, number of Youtube views is not exactly the measure of greatness. The reason critics love her and her version of Hallelujah is because it is legendary. Bummer you don’t like it, but make no mistake it is one of the greatest songs ever and K.D. Lang is one of the greatest singers ever.I saw Leonard Cohen perform it live. And I'm lucky enough to have seen K.D. perform it live too. I’m a huge fan of both. And I have never seen a sanding ovation last so long, during the middle of a show (not an encore) as long as the standing O, K.D. got for Hallelujah when I saw her.and, BTW when in Canada… don’t criticize K.D. or Leonard too loudly, they are national treasures.;-)

Where can i find Bon Jovi's cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”?

A big thumbs down 2 both u guys!! Have u heard BJ's version of Hallelujah? Cuz if u had, then I bet u wouldn't be sayin the stuff that u have! Agreed the shrek ost's version was amazing, but Jon's vox are top notch and I just don't seem 2 get tired of hearing the number again, and again, and again......!! Its truely the best rendition of the song ever!! Personally, I feel its even better than the original itself! But that's just me......

Neway, I'm really sorry, questioner, but I've searched 4 ovr 2 hours 4 Bon Jovi's rendition of that number on the net,, but really couldn't find nething close..., though I must say its 2 early, and it'll b only a matter of time b4 u get the video of the performance available 4 downloading purposes!! Till then all we can do is Keep The Faith!!(No pun intended!!)

Well.., it is, of course available on the Stripped site.., but not 4 downloading purposes...., that will be available a few days frm now...

If I wanted to cover the song "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, where would I pay the royalties?

If you cover the song at a venue, it is on the venue to pay for licensing. If the venue is big enough, they probably get tapped on the shoulder every year by BMI and ASCAP, and they probably have a ‘blanket’ license (link). Here’s the TLDR version:We work hard to make sure any business seeking a music license is able to get one at a reasonable rate. Most of ASCAP’s licensees take out “blanket licenses,” meaning that licensed venues pay an annual flat fee without having to take on the time-intensive process of tracking and reporting on every song played. - ASCAPI would imagine that the experience with BMI is similar for venues. If, however, you cover the song on a recording, the responsibility is on you to license it correctly. Some cd press shops verify that you have done that, some don’t. Some will even do the paperwork for you - like CDBaby (link). There is an amount of time, even after the writer is deceased, that their songs will still collect royalties, so I imagine before he passed Leonard signed over his catalog to a family trust of some sort. They will keep cashing checks for 70+ years I believe.

Who does the best version of the song "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen?

I deeply feel, both empirically and as an Alto, that the best performance/recording I've ever heard (and it's held up) is Mz. K.D. Lang's performance of said Hallelujah at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Canada. Most of the YouTube videos have been slideshows, but here's a new one - I hope it lasts - that seems to be a dress rehearsal. I hear slight variances in the version I've heard so many times + no athletes. Anyway, it is an interpretation that gives more meaning, purpose, and depth to the song than any I've hear before. And, as a vocalist, I'm aware of what else she does so amazingly… when you have a song with verses, especially 3+ (and this has way more than she sings) the hardest thing to do is make people forget it. But, she makes each verse do or sound something different. I love this recording. Hope you like it…. Check out her Roy Orbison “Unplugged" too…
