Is My Dwarf Hamster Is Pregnant

Is my hamster pregnant?

She doesn't look pregnant in the pictures -but that doesn't mean much, she may simply not be along far enough for it to show clearly in a picture. She's certainly old enough to BE pregnant (they can start as early as 5 weeks), and since they were not kept separated by gender, it would not be surprising at all. As their pregnancy is 16-17 days, you'll know soon enough. Why exactly does it worry you? There's rarely any problems, and with any luck you can sell the young back to the shop if you (understandably) don't want to keep them.

Is my hamster Pregnant or fat???

Well, she can be pregnant, but she can also be ill. I had a female hamster and one day she suddenly looked pregnant, but I knew it's not possible, because she was housed alone in her cage. I took her to veterinarian and she told me my hammie had a disease called pyometra (uterus infection). The swelling of the stomach is caused by the puss filling the uterus. Pyometra is a serious disease (more common among older females who have never had babies) and must be treated with antibiotics. Sometimes the 1 week treatment is not affective and hysterectomy or a lifetime treatment with antibiotics is the only way.
Other symptoms of pyometra (except for the swelling) are especially excessive drinking, also loss of appetite and sometimes oozing of the pus. So, if your hammie has any of these symptoms, I'd take her to vet ASAP.
In case your hamster is pregnant, make sure she's got enough fluids expecially after the birth, otherwise she can start eating her babbies (especially if it's her first litter). Adding fluid vitamins to her water would be wise too.
Yes, they can get through 1 cm apart bars or at least get hurt while trying, so I'd suggest aquarium instead.

How do you tell if your hamster is pregnant?

the stomach area will become very visible in the last 2 days of her pregnancy. Probably your hamster is just acting normal since she is still new to her new cage :) But if she is pregnant then: When the female hamster gives birth, it is very important not to touch the nest or babies and avoid cleaning the cage for the first 3 weeks or else the female hamster could panic and kill the hamster babies. If it is really necessary to 'clean' a cage area while the mother hamster is nursing her babies, you should only use a small piece of tissue to 'clean' the cage but avoid touching the nest area. Provide additional bread soaked in milk in a small food bowl for the mother hamster and babies as this will provided extra protein for these hamsters. The babies can be separated from the mother hamster when they are 4 weeks old as they become sexually mature.

What is the best way to tell if your hamster is pregnant?

funny thing with rodents like hamsters until they get big in the belly you cant know without blood work. They don't have behavioral signs like other animals, because if they did it would be in the form of erratic behavior, so unless you have a nose like a dog or cat and can smell the pregnancy pheromones you cant know until they get a big belly or if they don't, they pop out a bunch of pinkies.

How to Recognize When a Hamster Is Pregnant

Hamsters are rapid breeders, with gestation times averaging just a little over a month. By observing the behavior and appearance of a female hamster, you will be able to recognize when she is pregnant and help her prepare for the babies.

Instructions

1. Recognize when a hamster is pregnant by observing an increase in activity, especially in regard to nesting behaviors. Pregnant hamsters will begin to prepare the bedding area by adding more cedar chips to the existing nest. In addition, the female hamsters will also begin to hoard food, usually hiding it directly under the nest.
2. Observe any increases in weight gain in order to recognize signs of pregnancy. While a pregnant hamster may not show a bump in her belly until 4 or 5 days before giving birth, you should notice a rapid increase in the girth of the animal. This is usually caused by an increased appetite and should start just a few days after conception.
3. See whether your hamster is drinking more water than usual. Excessive thirst often accompanies pregnancy in hamsters, but it may also be a sign of gastrointestinal distress from fruits and vegetables as well
4. Watch the hamster in question to see how she interacts with other hamsters in the cage. You will be able to recognize a pregnant female if she suddenly begins fighting with the others and protecting her nest. A pregnant hamster may also be more reluctant to let you handle her, and she may even bite you once or twice to let you know she is displeased and uncomfortable with being held.
5.See whether a hamster's nipples begin to protrude from her abdomen. This will occur about a week before the babies are born. The nipples should be clearly visible in all but the longest-haired varieties of hamsters, such as the dwarfs.
6.Make arrangements once you recognize that your hamster is pregnant. Isolate her from the other hamsters, and consider whether you will keep the babies or find homes for them once they are 4 to 8 weeks old. Remember that the offspring can mate when they are 8 to 10 weeks old.

How can one tell if a Robo Dwarf Hamster is pregnant? ?

~ hi ~ ! Well, have you confirmed their sexes? Without getting too specific it's pretty easy to tell a male hamster from a girl hamster. You will see definite testicles if one of your hamsters is male. I have owned male and female hamsters over the years and it's very distinctly obvious. Here is more information on distinguishing male vs. female:

If your hamster is pregnant you will notice changes in behavior - nesting behaviors and nipples will start to show. Here is more information on how to tell:

In all my years owning hamsters I can honestly tell you that hamsters can get very chubby - especially very happy and content little eaters. My Poppy is such a chubby healthy looking little girl - I honestly had the same concern you are expressing - I thought maybe she was pregnant before the adoption and no one realized (until enough time elapsed and I realized it was impossible).

Definitely confirm the sexes and then look for physical changes and behavior changes in your little darling.

Best of luck to you. =)

Pregnant hamster bleeding?

I really don't know much about hamster breeding, see i know more about budgie breeding. Not the point anyways your hamster might start giving birth, because it is May 24th so if she had gotten pregnant she has been pregnant for about 14 days. Hamsters gestation periods are from 16-18 for Syrian Hamsters, 18 to 21 days for the Russian hamsters, 21 to 23 days for Chinese hamsters and 23 to 30 days for Roborovski Hamsters. So your hamster may have started giving birth?
Hope this helped, good luck to u and ur hammy!

If the female hamster is pregnant, will she kill the male?(dwarf ones)?

A pregnant female won't kill a male, unless perhaps they are newly introduced to one another. If she is pregnant and introduced to a new male, she could fight (possibly) kill him if she's trying to protect her territory. A hamster is the most aggressive when it's pregnant or nursing a litter.

Another reason to remove the male is that dwarves will breed very soon after giving birth. This means back to back litters. It is not unheard of for a female to have a second litter before the first litter is even 3 weeks old. Breeding like this is harmful to the female. She would not breed this frequently in the wild but is being forced to in these domestic situations.

I do not condone any casual breeding though it can't be avoided when a female hamster is purchased. If you're worried about the male getting hurt and injured, I would separate the two into their own cages. Even if the female doesn't kill him, she could injure his eyes, tear apart his ears, injure his genitalia (a favorite target for fighting hamsters), scar his face. I have quite a few hamsters with these war wounds. You know the saying, "Better be safe than sorry".

My hamster is pregnant but is still really skinny?

Hamsters always build a nest, doesn't mean they are pregnant. They are nocturnal animals and spend most of their days in the nest they build. I'd suggest separating them because if she does have a litter the male may kill them or eat them.
