I would assume you can.If you are a Gmail user, another way to get around the issue would be to use their "alises" feature:If your gmail email is johnsmith@gmail.com, you can use johnsmith+alias@gmail.com and it will always go through to your email address. So you could use a different alias for each Twitter account, and simply use the Twitter username as the alias.

Hey this happened to me as well. Once you use an email on twitter it is locked into the account. When you went to disable/delete it told you that you should remove your email if you ever want to go back. Unfortunately at this time you cannot remove your email from your old account. (Because you cannot reopen your old account) So for now you have to use another email. If twitter ever lets you go back to the old account you might be able to.
