Is Neosporin Supposed To Draw Out Pus

Is Neosporin supposed to draw out pus?

Eight days ago I had two moles removed from my back. I was told to change the band-aids at least once a day, and apply clean Vaseline or Neosporin, which I have been doing. When I use Vaseline, there is never any pus when I remove the band-aids, but when I use Neosporin, there is yellow pus on the band-aids when I remove them.

Is this normal?

Is Neosporin supposed to draw out pus, or is the Neosporin irritating my wounds?

Should I stick to Vaseline?

It's been eight days and my wounds look pretty much the same, how can I speed up the healing process with minimized scarring?

Thanks so much! :)

Do I clean up the pus, before applying neosporin?

Yesterday, I fell and received a wound. It was quickly clean with a wipe, and placed a bandage over it. Later, pus started to come out of it. I want to apply Neosporin, but do I clean off the pus, then apply it? Or, do I apply it right over the pus?

Can I use Neosporin on my Lip Piercing?

Neosporin is not meant to be used on puncture wounds, which is what a piercing is.
Pus has the consistency of Elmer's glue or honey. If what you're getting out is thinner than that, it is just normal secretion.

signs of infection:
green, brown, grey or some other color of secretion (clear, white and yellowed are normal)
hot feeling to the touch accompanied by streaked redness
foul odor
foul taste in your mouth (since we're talking about an oral piercing)

The best thing to do is sea salt soaks 2-3 times a day. You can easily find non iodized sea salt at the grocery store. If you use any mouthwash, make sure it is alcohol free.

Go back to the piercer and have them take a look at the bump on your piercing. It is likely some sort of hypergranulation and they will be able to tell you the best course of action after looking at it.

Can Neosporin treat an existing infection?

If you are experiencing swelling, warmth and redness around a wound see a practitioner for possible systemic antibiotics. You don’t want to miss an infection that could be MRSA or that could have systemic effects. Neosporin is not a great medicine because it is a combination product many times and people have reactions to its ingredients.

I used neosporin on a cut and pus formed afterwards? what's happening?

It's infected. To Chirpaholic: yes, pus is made up of (among other things) dead white blood cells. But that does not mean that they're fighting the infection. It means that they are being overwhelmed by the bacteria in the wound and the immune system is not having success fighting off the invaders.
Most minor infections clear up on their own. Wash it twice a day with mild soap and warm water, and continue applying neosporin. If it gets worse, go to the doctor.

Neosporin/Cold Sore cut?

I recently had a cold sore and a scab was in the making but the shower ripped it all off. Now all that is left is a red bloody mark so I decided to put neosporin on it because the actual herpes virus isn't on my lip anymore and it's pretty much just a cut. It's been about an hour and now there's white pus on it, I was wondering what it was and if it's good or bad. It looks nasty and it looked better before I put on the neosporin. What's going to happen next? Will a scab form or what? How long will this "white pus" stay for, will it be gone in the morning (please answer that one!)

How do you cure a infected nose piercing?

Neosporin BAD, it doesnt allow for the wound to breathe and so the infection is just being held close to your piercing. Neosporin is meant for surface scrapes and cuts, not deep puncture wounds, which is what a piercing essentially is. The bandaid is another no no, you need to let it breathe.

Try soaking your nose in a warm/mildly hot sea salt solution 2-3 times a day to draw out the impurities. The proper ratio of sea salt to distilled (not tap) water is 1/4 tsp (NOT TABLESPOON) to 8oz of water.

Try to soak for 10-15 min at a time. You may also wish to invest in some emu oil to put on the piercing after you clean it. My nipple piercings get the dreaded bump every now and again, but since i have been using the emu oil, it is going down and the other one went away and hasnt been back. The best kind is Desert Palm. I will list the link below.

Be sure to keep the piercing clean and dry. Dry it off only with a dry, clean papertowel and pat it, dont rub it. In the future, if it comes back, dont pop it, start with the sea salt soaks IMMEDIATELY.
