Is One And A Half Hours Enough Time To Make A Connection In Vancouver Airport

For a long flight (over 10 hours), what does someone do that entire time? Anyone done that in coach?

It depends if you are in coach or business/first. I just flew to Hong Kong from the US in an overnight flight. I left Saturday and got in Monday early morning. The flight was just shy of 16 hours.  I flew Cathay Pacific in business. The plane had economy, premium Eco and business. There was no First in this plane. Here is what I usually do:1. Always pick an overnight flight. Much easier to sleep this way. 2. Arrive exhausted. The more tired I am, the longer I can sleep. So the night before I sleep at least 3hours less than normal. 3. Eat before the flight. I find it better not to eat major meals on the plane even if the food is great.  If you have a full stomach it is likely that you will not have good sleep. 4. If you drink, limit alcohol to one glass of wine or champagne. Don't ever drink beer in a plane unless you want to spend half the trip going to the toilet. 5. Drink normal quantities of water. Don't "hydrate" yourself, it has the same result as beer. 6. Have a good book so you catch up on reading. It is better than to rely on the plane's entertainment system. Sometimes it doesn't work. Also if you travel often most likely you have seen all movies. 7. Plan your time. If you are doing north-south like NY-Buenos Aires or London-J'burg try to sleep just after take off. If you are going East-West it is trickier, but for a 12+ hours I would wait at least 2h before sleeping. I sleep very well in the plane regardless of where I'm sitting. I have friends who can't sleep even if they are in First. In any event the one thing that I recommend you NEVER do is take sleeping aids. I have seen some very bad results.

Can I leave the airport during a layover for an international flight?

YES, you can leave the airport during a layover in the case of international flights. But there is a certain condition attached to it which you need to know.In case, you leave the airport on your layover, then you need to go through the security once again in order to get to your second or the connecting flight. In case, you do the same thing at an airport in some another country, then you need to go through the customs and immigration also.In case, you leave the airport during a layover for a domestic flight: if you are traveling in one of the domestic flights, then if your layover is more than an hour, you will be given 2 boarding passes. And in case you already have 2 boarding passes, then you can leave the airport with your cabin luggage. So in short, you are allowed to leave the airport and the transit area between flights. And you can take as much as time you want if you hold a valid visa. Well, the timings in concern with the layover may vary and depend upon different factors like your comfort and the country where you are at the time of layover. All you need to manage is to pass through the security once again plus the customs and immigration on your way back to the airport. But the advice to the travelers is that you should avoid layovers with less than an hour for domestic flights and in the case of international flights, layovers should not be more than two hours for international flights.

Is 40 minutes enough time to transfer at Vancouver airport?

Flying with Westjet from Toronto to Vancouver, then Japan Airlines from Vancouver to Tokyo Narita.

I have 40 minutes and I was wondering if this is enough time to transfer to my flight to Japan? Should I call the booking place and tell them to switch me to an ealier flight?

Airport/Flight advice for a total noob? (JFK)?

Hi so this summer I’m going to fly out of DC to JFK and get on another plane to go to Norway where I’m doing a summer program thing. We decided that doing this would save 4-600 dollars so I can fly with Norwegian Air because of their low fares. Anyway, I’m sixteen and have never been on a plane before, and know nothing about airports. The fact that I will have to go to JFK by myself terrifies me. Can you give me some advice for a total noob and maybe walk me through the process? Thanks.

Is a two hour layover in Hong Kong doable? Flying in Cathay and departing Air Canada.

It should be sufficient. HKIA has a transit section for check ins. You don't have to go through the logistics of departing and re-entering the airport. Just make sure to let Cathay know at your original departure airport it's a layover and they will route your luggages straight through to your destination.

If you book a flight with British Airways and your layover time at Heathrow is 1 hour, will you miss the next flight?

Personally, as some one who used to be a travel agent, and who has transferred through Heathrow multiple times myself. I would not do it.One hour is the bare minimum transfer time, technically possible, but in one of the busiest airports in the world, not a good idea. I have seen some lovely views of London, over the years while my plane has been in a holding pattern waiting for a slot to land. Domestic and Irish flights tend to land in T1 which has very, very long corridors and you would have a considerable walk to bus transfer zone. (At least 10 mins, I usually take 20 but I’m a slow walker) You have a wait for the T5 bus transfer, they have upped their efficiency there, but a fifteen minute wait would not be unreasonable. The bus transfer itself takes 10 -15 minutes and then you arrive in T5 and have to find your gate in another huge terminal. I can’t remember if you have to go through security again here. But I remember we were surprised how long it took to get from the shops to our gate.I might chance an hour and a half. But my comfort zone time would be somewhere between two and three hours for a transfer in Heathrow. One of my former colleagues gave herself a six hour transfer there once, because it makes her so paranoid.

Would you take a 17 hour flight or would you split it up with a layover if time wasn't a factor?

I would take the 17 hour flight, without any doubt. When we fly home on vacation, we take a 16 hour flight to Houston. The 777 normally parks next to the Embraer 195 that will take us home (Mexico City) in less than 2 hours. But there are some obstacles between those two airplanes, parked side by side:Pass immigrationPick-up luggageClear customsCheck-inGo through securityBoard the airplane, if it hasn’t already left due to a 3 hour wait at immigration.Sometimes, if time is not a factor, we split the trip with a layover:Pass immigrationPick-up luggageClear customsTake taxi, shuttle or walk to the hotel, with lots of heavy bagsPay the hotel billTake taxi, shuttle or walk to the airport, with lots of heavy bagsCheck-inGo through securityBoard the airplaneAs you can see, even the connection is better than the layover.Man! I really wish there was a direct 17 hour flight to Mexico.
