What is India's contribution to the UN Peacekeeping force?

**india has remained the largest contributor of troops to UN peace keeping force since its inceptions.**its contributions in UNPKF operation spans from Korean war, bosnia,Somalia,Mozambique, middle east, indo china etc to preventing current carnage in south sudan civil conflict** over the period of time, india has contributed field commanders, military advisers, police commissioners, first all women contingent-a formed police unit** reconstruction & rehabilitation programmes carried out by IPKF earned goodwill in many African countries which facilitates india’s diplomatic outreach to these nationsNotwithstanding above major contributions,Indian peacekeeping forces has also drawn major criticism like:-a)allegation of sexual misconduct, human rights violation on part of our peace keeping forcesb) as the head of neutral nation repatriation commission tasked with the peaceful transfer of prisoners to 2 new Korean states,we got embroiled in disagreements & diplomatic clashes with two power blocsc)IPKF got highly entrenched in protracted civil war in srilanka fighting LTTE,which resulted in massive domestic backlash & subsequently leading to souring of relationship b/w two nations#Lately india has reduced its troops commitment to UNPKF as perception has been gaining ground that benefit of such exercise is not proportionate to the cost involved in terms of personnel or resources# india need to assess its UNPK operations commitment & recalibrate it in tune with geo economical political ambitions

Did Britain defeat the IRA before making peace with them?

The British army reached a point where the IRA threat was contained although the catholic community were being subjected to a brutal terror campaign by loyalist paramilitaries and that was the key factor in compelling the IRA to realise that their military campaign was untenable. The loyalists pledged that for every protestant killed by Republicans a catholic would be murdered and the catholic community therefore ceased to give support to the IRA. The British deliberately avoided the use of tanks and overt military aggression after the events of bloody Sunday showed them that the publicity generated by extreme military responses only benefitted the IRA in terms of publicity. The British security services also succesfully infiltrated the IRA and even Gerry Adam's driver was working for the British.

Can we really achieve peace through war?

Yes! When all other means to achieve peace...like talks, appeasement, fail and there are aggressors bent upon destroying your identity then war is the only option left...sad as it may sound!

There are times when to restore peace one has to use weapons...but that should be the last option!

How can we people create peace between India and Pakistan?

India and Pakistan have a long history of conflicts, both have fought wars. Violation of ceasefire is now normal. Soldiers sacrificing their lives, many innocent people dying unfortunately have become common. So, to bring peace between the two countries is a very difficult task. Some solutions which I think can work as a remedy :-Diplomatic talks should take place inspite of any situation. When some tradegy takes place on the border, our politicians including common man very easily announces the cancellation of the diplomatic meetings and calls for military action. But we forget to think that military action will not lead to a solution. The cancellation of cricket matches between the two countries is not appreciated. Our news channel displays the news about the cricket match as if it is a war. I mean it is just a cricket match, why are we bringing tensions between the two countries in it.A country is governed by a political party. Both the governments should try their best in bringing stability in the region and forget about the past and move on.Trade between two countries is one of the most important factor. If the trade between the two countries is healthy, then the relation between the countries will ultimately be healthy. Both need to enhance cooperation in their fight against terrorism. They should set an international example for it.Both these countries should walk hand in hand and work towards the betterment of society.

Should we always seek peace?

May 13, 1940, London.Nazi Germany sweeps across Europe. The newly appointed British PM,  Sir Winston Churchill, takes the podium and delivers a speech that would outline the shape of things to come for the next 5 years - the bloodiest years the world has ever experienced:".... You ask, What is our policy?I will say; "It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us:to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word:Victory - victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival."(Less than a year before, the former PM, Lord Chamberlain declared he brought peace to Europe " for a 1000 years" having signed a mutual non aggression agreement with Hitler)Sometimes, as part of the end game aspiring towards the pursuit of peace, we need to put peace on hold for a while and take a stand against those who view peace as a punchline, a stall tactic, on the path towards a hideous ends. They were easier to spot back in 1940, but there are still some of them out there.Case in point delivered well by Jon Davis here: Is ISIS worse than the Nazis?

What was the legacy of the war for north korea and south korea?

The war between the Koreas many decades ago not only resulted in a line dawn between the two nations but also defined the development of the two into the future,
South Korea had gained allies and acceptance in the world, whereas NK stayed exactly where it was left 60 or 70 years ago. The biggest difference can be found in the quality of life and the standard of living of their citizens.
