Is Playing To Much Video Games Really That Bad For Me

All I do is play video games...is that bad?

Lol there is nothing wrong with playing video games a lot as long as that is what you want to do. As long as it doesn't have a really bad effect on your health. If you want to play games all day just make sure you take small breaks every once in a while just to eat, shower, ETC. It might effect your social skills (you'll meet less people in the outside world) but once again if that's what you want than its fine. And also in our society people who play games all the time are commonly made fun of with phrases like, "You have no life." I personally don't agree with that because a life is not really a life if you don't live it the way you want, and if playing games is what you really like than its all good. You should still try to go out just a little bit more often just to keep in touch with your friends (unless of course their on xbox with you.. lol I have a feeling that's the case.)

Also many people often say playing video games a lot is unproductive and pointless and they often prefer getting out of the house and doing stuff like hanging out with friends. But if you think about it, how much more productive is getting out of the house and finding pleasures like hanging with friends than playing xbox. I know its healthy and all but not all people enjoy that. Theire are people that like the indoors and people who like the outdoors. Maybe your just an indoor person, that how like to think of it.

I quit playing video games. Is that good for me?

Playing video games is neither inherently good nor bad. It's hardly like doing drugs, smoking, eating high amounts of sugary foods or any number of other activities where there is a clear and negative effect to engaging in them.Just the act of quitting video games, by itself, is hardly a positive. So, if you want quitting video games to be 'good for you', ultimately, it's about figuring out what you're doing instead. You have to do things for the right reasons and figuring out what those reasons are is pretty the key to this question. If you're taking 40 hours a week you used to play video games and using it to be more socially active, improve yourself, volunteer or whatever else that’s productive or beneficial to your own well being, then it's probably a good thing, providing you didn't lose a lot of enjoyment from it (after all, enjoying your leisure time is also important to your well being). If you're taking the $60 a month you spend on games and instead spend it saving for a house or retirement or spend it on a gym membership, then again, quitting games may very well be a constructive action. However, if you're just taking the time and money and decide to simply start watching TV instead or buying more beer, then perhaps the effect is at best a wash. If you're doing that AND you're miserable for quitting your favorite hobby and you lost contact with all your friends (who were all gamers), then it's certainly a clear negative.

Did I waste my WHOLE life playing video games?

Hi,

I'm Andy, I'm 17 years old and turning 18 this March.
I was wondering did I really waste my whole life playing video games?!

I love playing video games A LOT! I play everyday! And I can't remember a day that I didn't play in. I play video games the whole day! I don't have ANY friends and I don't go out at all!!
I just rather sit in the couch and play games for the rest of my life. 'Cuz to me video games = life! I mean, what's life with out video games??! It's NOTHING! Thank God for video games! I feel sorry and pity for those who don't play and I think they're insane!! How can you not play?!! I'm incredibly addicted to COD I just want to spend my life playing it! I don't even think there's a game ever invented that I didn't play! And I hate my sister she works in an art gallery and plays many instruments and she has band and also has so many friends and very big social life, and she always get As in school.. But I never get an A at all 'cause all
I think about is video games. Anyway, she always makes fun of me and say that I don't have a life and that I'm crazy. But in fact I think I'm very sane and doing the right thing. 'Cuz she loves stuff like music, clothes, friends, boys and sex! Ewwwww! She's the one who's insane, right?! She has no life! Her life is limited! I mean life is much more bigger than that and video games shows us that.

My mother suggested I should work with her in the gallery or try to learn any instrument. But I said NO WAY! I hate music with passion! I just can't stand it! And my father let me work with him in the shop he owns, but I stayed there for 1 hour and came back home running to my Xbox and PS3! I almost gave up food 'cause of video games and I don't care. Also there's a girl in school asked me out and I refused, 'cuz I was much more busy trying to get out from school to go and buy Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I don't know what to do anymore! I'm confused! VIDEO GAMES are not a waste of time!! IT'S LIFE!! I know there's nothing wrong with me. I'd like to hear your opinion. But please, if you think I should get a little help please say so.

Which is worse watching tv or playing video games?

The subject is actually only just being really looked at. Some early examinations show that modern kids have strong mental capacities in some regards than previous generations because of both video games and TV. But they're also finding other capacities are diminished. So its not that current kids are smarter, but that they've undergone a bit of a trade-off in what they're good at. Here's one brief online blog or whatever that talked about it, http://www.infopackets.com/news/technolo...

In TV vs Video Games I would imagine it depends on the type of video game. Those addictive online ones like WoW or that one that was the big hit before WoW, are well frankly bad. They are just too addictive and create bad social reasoning in people. Or things like the Sims or Second Life, again because they stunt people in very bad ways. But just general games, like FPS or sports games, vs TV, I think its hard to find much difference between the two. So again, it depends what kind of games you're talking about.

But at the end of the day, I think you should just be happy your parents care enough to try to do what they think is right to raise you better (regardless of whether they are right or wrong on the topic). There are frankly situations out there where parents just let technology raise their kids. Sounds like yours are caring enough to not let that happen. It won't hurt you to have to wait till you are out of the house to play more video games. It might be frustrating, but it won't be bad for you at least.
