Is Pots Really Similar To Cancer

Is is true that hot tea in a plastic cup can cause cancer?

I know from my Indian friends that this topic has been rather hotly debated in India lately. The answer is we do not know definitively. However, there is good cause for concern. One of the most common chemicals in plastic cups is styrene. Styrene was added to the the USA Dept. of Health Human Services list of known carcinogens in 2011. This move was opposed by plastic manufacturers and would not have happened without quite clear proof. So, we may reasonably sure that styrene causes cancer. That leaves us with two questions.Does hot tea result in the migration of styrene from plastics into the tea itself? Fortunately, this one has been researched. An article published in the Journal Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods in 2009 established that styrene from general purpose plastics (GPP) does indeed migrate to hot beverages and that the migration showed a direct correlation to two factors, temperature and fat content. Bad news for those who like a spot of milk with your tea. You just doubled your styrene exposure. This leads to the 2nd question. Is the styrene exposure sufficient to be considered a cancer risk? The answer to this also seems to be yes. In the same study noted above, the researchers found that the level of styrene migration exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level Goal set by the USA Environmental Protection Agency. So in summary, general purpose plastics do contain styrene, a known carcinogen. Hot tea has been tested and does absorb toxic level of styrene. There is no specific research that I am aware of linking drinking tea in plastic directly to cancer but the indirect linkages seem to me strong enough that one would be well advised to avoid hot tea in plastic containers. As an aside, I agree with the other respondents who cited BPA as a concern. BPA is not a carcinogen, but, for young women in particular, it does present a serious health risk and, yes, BPA is released from plastics by hot beverages.Hope that helps.

Do non-stick skillet pans really cause cancer?

Without PTFE or PFOA, the non-stick doesn't work very well. I have several of the pans. The Henckles Twin Spirit Thermolon is the best of the bunch but far from perfect. It isn't non-stick enough to use without oil. Unlike a PTFE or PFOA based non-stick, it can be scubbed with scouring powder (barkeepers friend) when things to stick to it. You can't make an egg on it without adding sufficient oil, which you need to do for a stainless pan.

Get a pan with a stainless steel or anodized aluminum surface (the anodization createse a layer so that your food never touches the actual aluminum). Calphalon is a good brand. If you don't want PTFE or PFOA, you're not going to get a pan that works without oil.

No pan will contain lead or cadmium.

Is POTS "just like cancer"?

There is a girl my sister is kinda friends with that has POTS. On Facebook she complains about her POTS, on instagram, on twitter on tumblr. She says POTS is "just like cancer" and she battles it everyday and its such a struggle.
I recently announced that I have Leukemia on Facebook after several questions of where i was, and why im not in school anymore.

This girl has actually gone to the point to compare MY leukemia to her POTS, putting my Leukemia down and saying POTS is worse. She threw my name into her POTS complaint yesterday saying;

"Samantha and I are practically in the same boat now, she has Leukemia and I have POTS. But she has the luxury of being in the hospital with doctors and nurses constantly checking on her. I have to struggle with POTS everyday, by myself. Guys, my POTS is so bad today, I feel like I'm gonna puke." quote taken from her facebook status.

I really don't even know what POTS is!! Is it similar to cancer at all?! Why is staying in the hospital "a luxury" ?!

Is aluminum responsible for cancer?

This depends on whether or not the aluminium has been ionised positively, but generally, no. Cancer is caused by mutated cells multiplying, and aluminium can not cause this, unless tiny dust particles of it get through your skin/enter the body some other way, and take electrons from the DNA. This is very unlikely however, as metals' lattices often consist of loads of free electrons, and are not likely to take anymore, unless very positively charged. If you would like more information, or have any questions, feel free to ask!

Cancer fundraising ideas?

A few ideas:
Little inexpensive flower pots, soil and seeds w/a catchy saying to commemerate the day. You can either let the people plant their pots there, or already have the soil in them for the people to take home. And maybe specific colored flowers that hit on different forms of cancer.
You could have a small Chinese auction during the relay. Ask for donations to auction off from businesses or individuals. You would need to buy tickets, but they are cheap and can be found at any dollar store. Throw in a 50/50 too.
A Penny War-whether each team member has their own jar, or you hand out jars to each group at the Relay the point is to collect penny's in your jar, and have other's sabotage opponent's jars w/any other money/coins. Pennies are positive, and all other money is negative. The person/group with the most positive is the winner-no prize, just a competition. This is usually done over a week's time w/a deadline, so doing it the day of the Relay might not give you as much money as just individuals. Most jars would end up negative, and you won't raise a ton of money, but people usually enjoy this.
I'm assuming this is in summer? Why not a Christmas themed fundraiser? Decorate a tree w/an ornament made to remember the day and have people buy them. It'll be nice for them to put in on their tree this year. Pictures w/Santa Claus dressed in Relay for Life gear for a few $'s. Instead of hot cocoa, make ice cocoa-basically milk chocolate blended w/ice-topped with whipped cream.
Face painting.
Sell glow sticks for the night time part of the event.
If pets are allowed, have a fashion show. Or dress up your pets and have people vote-either w/them there, or take pictures and make a display. (Somehow figure out how to collect money, whether it's to submit your pet or to vote.)
Ever watch The Price is Right? You can make your own board (it takes a little time, but isn't hard), just google how to do it. You can charge to drop a ball, and have little prizes depending on where they land. Or there is a set amount, and depending on where the ball lands is what they have to donate.
If you're looking for a beforehand event, have everyone clear out their attics/basements....and collaborate on a yard sale. All proceeds to go the Relay fund.
Hope this helps your brainstorm for ideas! I'm actually pretty fond of the Christmas in summer idea-I could really go for a iced coca!

What would happen if you cooked with pots and pans built from nano-tubes?

A single nanotube is an extremely efficient heat conductor. But a mess of them is actually more of an insulator. A tangle of nanotubes make for great insulationIf they could be arranged properly, then heat would be transferred immediately which is both good and bad. It could make for hotspots and burnt food, but you would have very good heat control. If it is simply a massive insulator, then I would not cook with it on a stove, instead I would fill the pot with water and use an immersion heater to cook my food sous vide.

Is it harmful to cook or eat with aluminium utensils?

Cooking in aluminium and its impact has not been researched enough or thoroughly to establish any direct relationship or impact. Pressure cookers and normal cooking vessels like pans and pots have been made in aluminium for over 10 decades Aluminium is is the most commonly used commercial cooking utensil by far. Reputed companies and many arbiters of food science have no clear answer or studies. All we hear from these discussions is just anecdotal evidence and hear-say. Same is true for copper and brass vessels and also stainless steel. Just by seeing turmeric stains on the aluminium vessel does not mean it is harmful for health. Even the normal fresh food and fruits contain aluminium from the soil absorption. Levels of aluminium in the body vary and some data seems to indicate that poor functioning kidneys are not able to excrete the aluminium effectively. This does not mean that aluminium is bad for the kidney. Same is the case with Alzheimer - brain tissue seems to indicate presence of aluminium - but that does not immediately mean aluminium vessels causes Alzheimer. Bottom line is probably this: not enough data, not clear documentation, too anecdotal and going forward needs a more thorough review and research. In the meanwhile - what can we really do - mix and match the use of metal vessels and use good quality goods. And dont scare people with anecdotal evidence gathered from here and there

Does SMOKING weed cause lung cancer?

On the contrary it cures cancers not causes them, there have been studies done that found out any body using marijuana either smoking it or vaporizing it or ingesting it has more of a chance of sleeping than getting any diseases!!! Lung cancer or any other disease of the cardio system or respiratory system is not found in chronic marijuana smokers!!! in fact marijuana users are free of any cancers or diseases other than aids which is not caused by marijuana!!! Cannabis oil cures all cancers, i do not think it cures aids though, without any side effects!!! Just Google, Biochemist who cured his own stage 4 prostate cancer with no side effects!!! Another site that proves it is " The Rick Simpson story" "Run from the cure" Read the material and watch the videos!!! It works better than any thing the pharmaceutical companies or medical profession has!!! I know about this because i live in a state that allows us to use medical marijuana!!! If you plan on looking any of these sites up you might want to copy the sites down on your computer because this site lets any body pull any answers they do not like for any reason, it seems like they will let anybody talk about an imaginary god that was never proven and never does anything, rather than to let someone talk about any natural medicines that are proven to work!!! I have had four answers that were reported as violations of community guide lines since i started telling people how they can cure their own cancer!!!
