Is Skyfall A Real Place In Scotland

In Ian Fleming's James Bond, is James Bond really from Scotland?

In the novels, James Bond was largely of indeterminate origin and background, but clearly had to be British given his work within the secret service. After the first film became popular, Ian Fleming in his title "You Only Live Twice", added a Scottish father (to agree with Sean Connery's own background), and a Swiss mother, to give him some international flavour and because Fleming was acquainted with the country having once studied at Geneva university . According to that novel, Bond himself studied in Scotland, England (through Eton) and Switzerland, so that he can't be said to have "grown up" anywhere. But I think the character works best when he is given no specific background, as he was throughout most of his existence. The obituary in "You Only Live Twice" is a case of too much information, and robs Bond of some of his mystery.

Has anyone visited the areas of Scotland where Skyfall was filmed? Did seeing the movie influence you to want to go to see Scotland, or to visit other places, depicted in this film?

I live only a few miles from the Scottish locations where parts of Skyfall was filmed. I regularly drive past these spots. However, while I very much enjoyed the film (one of the better productions is the Bond franchise I thought), I am not sure why I would pay particular attention to the Scottish locations used in the film, any more than the ones in London with which I am equally familiar. They are just places one passes through going from A to B.Maybe I lack the film buff gene.

What does 'Skyfall' mean?

If you are referring to the bond movie, the it means James Bond along with MI 6 has become less competent than before. The man himself has grown old and not a force to be reckoned with.

How did Q left breadcrumbs for Silva to follow Bond to Scotland which only Silva could understand ?

Remember Silva had hacked into MI-6's (?) computer system. It is implied that only Silva had the skill and knowledge to do that. So, Silva was the only one outside MI-6 that could see the files. Q then encrypts data on Bond and M's location with an encryption algorithm that is tough (Silva is smart, skilled, and has inside knowledge) but deliberately possible for Silva to decode. ====>

Only Silva can access the data and decrypt to find out where Bond and M went. Q made the data NOT easy to figure out (a dead give away), but rather just enough of a challenge that Silva would not smell a rat, yet he could crack it.

Skyfall: James Bond Movie?

I've never seen a James Bond movie before in my life, but I want to go watch Skyfall...
Will I still enjoy the movie, even though I have no previous background knowledge? Or should I attempt to watch the other movies before going to see this one?
Thanks :)

Why is the the latest Bond movie called Skyfall?

Be warned: I have spoilers in my answer! But it is indeed the answer. XD

The term "Skyfall" which means the end of everything, was very symbolical for the whole movie. First, In the beginning of the movie, he actually dies. Or appears to die. The seeming end of James Bond.
Second, the British government wants to eradicate the spying sector which M leads. Meaning, if this succeeds, its the end of James Bond and his work as he knows it. Third, James Bond and M becomes helpless and was forced to flee to Scotland, where Bond grew up. A sign which says "skyfall" was on the gate. But it was also the final stand, for they were almost defenseless. But an epic fight ensues. As Adele's song goes "we will stand tall and face it all together at skyfall."

Watch it. You won't regret.

Skyfall (James Bond movie): I really didn't like the ending of the movie. Do others share my view?

The aim of the trip to Scotland/ Skyfall was not to protect M. When, after the gunfire incident in the Parliamentary Enquiry room, Bond whisks M away, they have a conversation in the car. In this conversation, M asks if she is going to be bait to lure Raoul Silva. Bond says nothing but the two exchange a glance in the rear view mirror. There is tacit acceptance, on M's part, of the deal. Which is strictly unofficial and between the two of them, as they verify. Where it went wrong perhaps was that Bond or M failed to anticipate just how big an entourage Silva will bring. "Always make an entrance" says Bond when he hears the helicopter blasting loud music. By then, it looked like a done deal that Silva had indeed taken bait. Bond's duty was to protect M from being killed by Silva -- and considering she succumbed to her injuries, and not to a gunshot fired by Silva, technically Bond didn't fail. M became collateral damage in the pursuit of Silva's end. So to answer your question: I think the story had an interesting twist, but nothing worth hating. Why M had to die at all is an interesting question. New Quoran Samit Tandon has an interesting take on what this film means. http://www.asianage.com/columnis...Out with the old, in with the new, maybe?
