Ergonomics: Is the long-term use of a bean bag good for the back/posture?

I know how comfortable one can feel while sitting on a bean bag, but it is not good for your body. If you sit on your bean bag for long time, it has few adverse effects on your body, specifically your spine and butt. Let's discuss first about your body parts when you sit on a bean bag. There is no support for your back, specifically upper back. When you sit on a bean bag, it leads your body towards somewhat slouchy posture, which is very bad for your spinal curvature in long run. It can lead towards spondylitis or other spinal disorders.Your legs are not supported very well, hence leading you towards muscular pain. Your legs are most supported when the knee is folded at 90 degree angle. There is no support for your arms as well, hence bad for arm and shoulder muscles. While sitting on a bean bag, if you are reading or using your phone or laptop, your neck is bent forward, can lead to muscular pain or in severe cases, cervical.Prolonged sitting on bean bag affects your body posture, turning it into a bad one. Please note that above effects are possible results of sitting on a bean bag for very long time. These results won't appear in few months, however mild muscular pain can occur. You can sit on your bean bag if you are not doing anything. But while working it is advised to sit on a chair with proper back support and armrest. If you do everything sitting on a bean bag, then I would suggest to start using a chair.Any other question regarding the same is welcomed.

Is sleeping on a hard surface(i.e, floor) bad for you?

If you do not have any anatomical issues, no.  A large part of Asia, even people that are better off sleep on the floor with minimal padding.  We evolved to sleeping on the ground.  Native Americans were known to take comment on how they had better posture from sleeping on the ground compared to white settlers.  I sleep on the floor on a 1/4" yoga mat and I sleep deeper and wake up easier than when I had a $3,000 King size bed.  I would say the only thing possibly bad would depend on where you live and your housing.  I'm sure sleeping on dirt in a third world country in a tropical climate leaves you vulnerable to parasites, diseases from insects, spiders and rats etc, but that has nothing to do with the surface.  Sleeping on concrete or a cold surface would be bad as well.  But otherwise it's probably not bad for anyone unless they are side sleepers thayt don't adjust. But to each their own.

My spine/bones bruise my back when I do sit ups?

When we do sit ups at dance it hurts so much, because my back bones stick out and I bruise my back over and over again. Is there any way that I could prevent this from happening?

Is sleeping on just a mattress bad for you?

A box spring does nothing for the comfort or discomfort of the mattress. The box spring's only reason for existing is that is supports the mattress on the bed frame. For example the cheap metal frames with only 2 little bars across them. the box spring holds and supports the mattress on that type of frame to keep it from sagging also. There are multi styles of beds that don't even require the use of a box spring cause there is either a board or enough braces to hold the mattress without sagging. And you don't need a bed frame either, that also has nothing to do with the comfort of the mattress, if its a bad mattress then no matter what it won't help. A good mattress will help your back, no matter what its sitting on.

What is a hiking backpack?

This completely depends on what type of hiking you are doing. If you are day hiking, meaning you plan to go out, hike and then return home or to a campsite, a day pack would be a hiking pack. A hiking pack is similar to a regular urban backpack in size, but is usually made of lighter ripstop fabric, has a frame or backboard to give the pack structure and has a hip belt as well as shoulder straps to take some of the weight of your shoulders. Many day packs also have a built-in hydration reservoir to make drinking on the trail easier. If you are backpacking, meaning taking everything with you to a campsite that you can’t drive to, your hiking pack will be larger than a day pack to accommodate your tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, food, water and camp supplies. These will have padded hip belts because you will want to carry most of the weight on your hips and not on your shoulder. They will also be sized, usually x-small through x-large depending on the distance from your iliac crest (top of your hip bone) to the top of your back. Sizing helps to get a custom fit for your pack, which is critical since you will be carrying so much weight.

Is it essential to have a sleeping mat when going camping?

My school and I are going camping for a day. On the sheet telling us what we have to bring it said a sleeping mat. I have a sleeping BAG but is it essential to have the mat too? At school they said that if I have one my back won't hurt but I don't think my back will hurt without it. The weather is supposed to be very sunny, so will I be able to get away with not having one?
