Is Spinach Food Indigestible

Is it normal to find undigested spinach in my stool?

Cellulose (a non water soluble form of plant fiber) is pretty tough stuff, at least when put up against our digestive system. If the appearance of recognizable vegetable matter (spinach, corn, etc.) is concerning to an individual? I would recommend that they spend more time chewing the food before swallowing. Cellulose stands up well to the chemical processes in the GI tract, but it can’t completely resist the mechanical forces of our mouth and teeth. Chewing doesn’t mean that it will disappear, it just means that it will be in much smaller pieces when your body is finished processing it.

How is spinach good for you?

Excellent source of iron. And too much roughage will give anyone wind. Try adding broccoli and garbanzo beans to a spinach salad. Go hang out in a crowd. Disperses people faster than tear gas!

Is the skin of an apple digestible?

Recently I've discovered apple skin in the darnedest places, to be genteel about the situation. I know about corn and peanuts but didn't know if the same applies to apples.

Is spinach food indigestible?

Does eating cooked spinach give you as much gas as eating cooked broccoli?

Spinach should not make you flatulent. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and beans have indigestible sugar called raffinose, which reacts with bacteria in the intestines, producing gas.

Spinach is not a cruciferous vegetable.

Why is cellulose indigestible by people?

Q: “Why is cellulose indigestible by people?”That is true, human’s digestion system cannot digest cellulose because the required microorganism (cellulase enzyme) is missing in our digestion system. Some insects carry this enzyme in their body, so they can use cellulose-based materials (wood, plants) as food.

Why can humans digest some leaves like spinach and not others like grass?

You can eat grass. Put it in a blender with water. Strain out the fibers and keep the liquid. Barley grass. Wheat grass. People eat these right now. You just need to separate the nutrients from the fiber. You can do the same with pine needles, and people have started doing this in some places. In the past, people boiled pine needles for tea rather than blending them. Sprouts and young growth in general is generally better than old. For something to be edible it just needs to be non-toxic and to soften when cooked or for the nutrients to otherwise be made accessible, such as through blending or mashing. People can't digest cellulose, and tough old leaves make bad food. Ruminants like cows can digest cellulose, though, because of the archaebacteria in their stomachs.  One way to increase what you can eat is to feed it to a cow and then milk the cow. This is probably not what you're talking about, though. Digestion with microorganisms could be used to make certain foods more edible. It'd be interesting to engineer lower-cellulose leaves for people to eat. That's probably what you were thinking about. Such leaves would be susceptible to disease and predators, since they'd rely on their toughness for protection. But maybe you could do it.If you bred acorns to have lower tannin content, or took the time to extract the tannins, they're edible also. They were eaten in the past. Taste is another matter entirely. Most of the food that you're used to has been bred for centuries to increase calorie content and reduce bitterness. Chimps are much less picky eaters than humans are, and can eat fruits that are far too astringent for humans.

What are some fibre rich Indian foods?

Fiber is something that each body needs but does not digest. It's of 2 types soluble and insoluble. Most plant based foods contain both of them where the fiber breaks down into a gel and slows down the digestion process, in turn, helps in maintaining low cholesterol and blood glucose. While the insoluble fiber remains unchanged all through the digestion process and makes waste heavier that flushes out of the body quite easily.List of High Fiber Indian foods are given below-split beans, lentils black beans, peas, sprouts, spinach, cauliflower, andcarrot.Brocalli also is a high fiber vegie and can help in maintaining good health.Ref.
