Is Taking 18 Units Too Much For The Spring Semester At Community College

Is 14 units a lot to take in a college semester?

At my school we have credits, which I assume are pretty much the same thing.
Currently I am taking 18 credits, 4-four credit classes and 2- one credit classes.
My workload is pretty heavy, but manageable.
I often procrastinate a lot too but I seem to usually get everything done.
I will warn you, you're bound to have some insanely late nights and busy weekends, but I'm sure you'll be able to manage them perfectly!
Best of luck.

Is 18 units too much for my fall semester in community college?

I know someone who took a 32 unit workload by both attending classes at her university and community college. Now compared to that an 18 unit workload seems reasonable enough. What is "too much" is dependent upon each person. Some people can easily handle such workload while there are many others who would simply be crushed by it. It really depends on what kind of student you are. Can you handle such a workload? You can answer this question by simply looking back at your past experiences and see how you were able to handle a regular workload. Was it easy? Did you have some difficult time keeping up? If it was the former then I think you would be able handle 18 units perfectly well. However, if it was the latter, then maybe you should reconsider it.

Also, you need to consider the individual classes. How is the workload for each one?

For me. personally, 18 units is perfectly fine as long as I have at least one fun class to ease the pain for the workload. Of course, it would take a lot more time and effort and a lot of patience to deal with the workload; however, I know that as long as I keep my head straight I will survive haha.

So how about you? What can you say about yourself? Can you handle this workload?

The answer will be found once you do a little self-reflection.

Is taking 18 units at a community college too much?

Hi, I would like too know if taking 18 units is too much, this will be done at a community college, the classes would be Calculus 1 (5 units), General Chemistry 1 (6 units), English Composition (4 units), and Art history (3 units). I heard that the art class is really easy, I will not have a job during this semester so all of my time will be dedicated to school, my goal is to get a 4.0 GPA, is this possible?

Thank you

Should I take 18 units for the Spring 2011 semester?

It depends on your study ethics. I had a semester where I worked 40+ hours a week and took 18 units. I pretty much had no social life that semester - I literally only saw my friends on Sundays and every other Saturday (i had to work every other Saturday). But, I think I had a pretty good study ethic because that was also one of my best semesters GPA-wise. Ironically, my worst semesters were when I took only a couple of courses. I guess accepting that that semester was all about school made me study better. I can say that during the beginning of my college education I could not have taken that many units and been successful. At the time I just didn't have the drive or study ethic to take on that workload. I look back and see that if I applied myself I would be further along in my education. However, I also understand that I wouldn't have been successful because I was not the person I am now.

I also had a friend who worked 50+ hours a week and took 26(!!!) units. I definitely couldn't do that and she actually ended up with some medical problems because she was only getting like 2-3 hours of sleep a night and even went 3 full days without sleeping. In the end she completed a double major in 3 years and her health is good. Although watching what she did was inspiring I know there is NO WAY I could do and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

But if you can do it and maintain good grades then go for it. Just be honest with yourself about what you are capable of. You didnt want your grades to suffer because you are overwhelmed with too much school work or from stress if you decided to volunteer

One suggestions though - didnt try to take too many science courses in one semester. That **** will kick your *** - at least it would mine. I think one reason I was successful when I took those 18 units was because it was a mixture of science and gen ed course. Not to down other majors but compared to science, those gen ed courses are a breeze. I know you know what I am taking about =)

Are 18 units a lot for a freshman in community college?

It depends on you and how you did in high school. Community college is not much different from high school (I personally found it easier than high school), and most people take 5-7 classes in high school. I took three community college classes (multivariable calc, differential equations, and abnormal psychology) for one semester while I was still doing my high school work (7 classes, 6 of them APs), I managed fine, and if I felt stressed it was never because of my CC classes. Three community college classes should be fine. Online classes tend to take less work than traditional classes, but it takes a LOT more motivation (I would know I went to Stanford's online high school and took some of their college classes). If you keep up with pace then you will be fine (but that can get hard sometimes). All of your classes are intro level, so I really think it should be manageable. It you start to feel overwhelmed there is always an add/drop period that lasts about a week (check with your college though) where you can drop a class and not have it on your record as a withdrawal. If you need to drop a class after that because you feel like you are failing or you are overwhelmed you can normally withdraw from the class about half way through (again check with your school) but it will show up on your transcript as a W. Good luck!

Taking 18 units in a semester?

Hi
I would like to know if anyone here has taken 18 units(semester units)(6 classes) in a semester and worked full time(relaxed job-where one can read for a couple of hours)?

I just finished community college(60 Quarter units) in 1 year and 3 months. I took 20 units(4 classes) and worked the same schedule I will be working now and maintained a GPA of 3.5.

I just want to know if anyone out there has taken 18 credit units and worked full time and managed?
