What are some of the most misheard song lyrics of all time?

66 by the Afghan Whigs is one of the most subtle. This song was used in the teen movie She’s All That in the scene where Rachel Leigh Cook’s character comes down the stairs for the first time. In the movie, the song is meant to suggest an overwhelming, irresistible attraction. It has since been used in a few syrupy montages to the same effect:The lyrics seem to support this interpretation at first listening. The last line, though, makes a very subtle, sound-alike switch missed by most people [1] but wouldn’t be missed by anyone familiar with the band [2]:Come on, come onCome on little rabbitShow me where you got itCause I know you got a habitIt sounds like “Cause I know you gotta have it” but is actually “Cause I know you got a habit”. The song isn’t about a romantic attraction, it’s about a desperate woman trading sex for drugs, making it a pretty odd choice for a romantic teen comedy love scene.*See comments in Afghan Whigs - 66 Lyrics | SongMeanings. Only one person noticed thisThe Afghan Whigs’ 13 Most Vicious Songs*Not as odd as casting Rachel Leigh Cook as the supposed ugly duckling but that’s a separate issue (pointed out in Not Another Teen Movie):Hollywood’s guess at what an unattractive woman looks like:image from Movie makeovers that should never have happened

Why are The Doors an important rock band?

Because of Jim Morrison.First of all, I am a huge fan of the Doors. I owned every album, book, and VHS of theirs in high school. I remember taking back Christmas gifts I didn’t want so I could buy the box set right after it came out.Every musician in the Doors was great. Not virtuosos, but well beyond competent with their instruments. They all studied jazz, knew their theory and had chops.Ray was a solid organ player, who held down great bass grooves with his left hand, while playing melodies and accompaniment with his right hand. Here’s “Soul Kitchen”, which is their version of a James Brown riff.Robby was a very different type of guitar player for the 60s. He learned flamenco and bottleneck guitar, making his playing different from everyone else who was trying to sound like Muddy Waters or the Beatles.John Densmore is one of my favorite drummers. He took jazz beats and made it rock. The opening to “Break on Through” is a bossa nova groove, tightened up and played with punk energy. All of these elements created a unique sonic palate. And then there was Morrison.Just look at him. He was the embodiment of a rock star. He was a handsome frontman in the radio era when you didn’t even need a good looking frontman. MTV will put anyone who looks like him on the air, regardless of talent, and Jim had talent. People debate if he’s a good singer (he’s no Freddie Mercury, but I like his voice). People debate if his lyrics are the work of a modern poet or a drug addled wannabe (quality varies, but I think he wrote some of the best and unique lyrics in rock). However, there is one thing about him that isn’t debatable, he had stage presence. He was handsome, confident and smart. Sometimes he was too clever, sly and sarcastic for the era. He came across as cocky, which he most certainly was. He died young and became a legend.I don’t know how they would be remembered if he had survived and gone on to put out mediocre albums through the 70s. Instead they regained their cool status in the 80s when bands started appreciating them again. Rolling Stone put him back on their cover. Ray began producing and playing with X. Oliver Stone made a solid movie about them.Their story is rock history, but Morrison’s story is legendary!

Look out your window. What do you see?

Feb. 2018. The other day… not what I expected! About 100 yards of mixed forest, and the lake beyond that, which I can still see because the leaves are just beginning to open their buds. I’m looking out my 3rd floor bedroom window. The nearest tree there is less than 20′ away. The other day, I was writing an answer to Stefan Pociask's answer to Why do Canadian geese fly at night?. The very next day, I was sitting here and I heard the familiar honk-honking of approaching geese. Another flight about to fly over my home on their way to who knows where. Thousands pass directly over every year. So, I heard this group coming. Getting louder… louder… Ooo! These must be pretty low… I might get a good look at them! So I went over to the window and looked up to search for them. Now they were REALLY loud! I’m looking up, and next thing I know, the lead goose flies into view from right to left… directly in front of me! Like 6 to 8 feet away from my face! Looked HUGE! His fellow geese right behind. All of them between my window and that nearest tree right there. Was awesome! Was like I was flying in a flock of geese, right along with them! I counted less than ten. Probably eight. It’s one thing to see a gaggle of geese on the ground… or a flock flying up above. But flying in formation right in front of your face is really cool! I could almost reach out and touch them. At least a couple looked right at me. I wanted to give them a high-five! And did I mention… LOUD?I love being in the right place, at the right time, when it comes to wildlife. Sometimes you just have to be lucky.
