Is The Electric Guitar The Autotune Of Rock Music

Why does so much of today's pop music rely on auto tune to ruin, and rarely relies on real musical talent instead of computerised sounds?

A lot of pop music today takes advantage of our thirst for familiarity, Have you ever listened to a song and realized How similar it sounds to the other pop songs? It's not just the auto-tune effect, Modern pop music extensively uses the set of vocal effects which makes it sound so catchy. It’s called Millennial_whoop.Check out this video by Thoughty2 :You must be amazed to see how unoriginal the modern pop music is. But still, If someone likes listening to the artists like Bieber, One Direction, Katy Perry and many other well-marketed pop stars, Just know that “THE TASTE IN MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE”. *coughs*

What place should autotune have in the music industry?

The same place as electric guitar effects. (as used by Hendrix, Alex Lifeson, and virtually every other rock guitarist)If someone thinks it fits in a song, they should use it. If not then the shouldn’t.If someone doesn’t like songs with autotune, then they shouldn’t listen to it.

With the onset of pop music, has electric guitar in specific died out?

I'm sure there's a lot of raised eyebrows!Well, to answer before I explain: NO!The reason being that Guitar has been established as “Cool” among all the people and now even if there's not much Guitar used in the pop song, the artist is seen holding a beautiful Electric. Take Shawn Mendes for example.Software indeed has increased the number of songs released each day, Multi-fold, but do people notice that for each Non-Instrumental Pop song, there's a good deal of Covers from guitarists. This is one among many other thingsCause you just can't get over the feeling of creating music. The electric guitar actually itself is more of software based in many situations and if Pop really deminishes mechanical instruments (which it never can) it still would never stand against Electric Guitar cause it's ELECTRIC!So, the question should be more Acoustic Guitar- Oriented, and in that cause the answer is….. an even bigger NO!The subtlety of the sounds produced physically in the acoustic guitar has never been successfully generated using electric guitars or software! A high five, fellow acoustic guitarists!! Haha!Musicians are still doing their thing, but the feeling of unbalance is majorly due to the vast majority of impotent amateurs who release tons and tons of Garbage made purely from software which they call Music. It's a Shame.. which at the same time is not worth much attention when you realise that this whole mess caused by Techno and Pop has merely covered and has never pushed away the real music!

This generations music is so unoriginal and so auto tuned , can we even consider it real music?

These “Today’s music isn’t real music” questions always serve as a reminder of how lazy people are when it comes to finding music they find enjoyable. Firstly, since the radio industry is tanking fast and clinging on for dear life to stay relevant, the radio isn’t a good place to find quality music anymore. There are three types of radio stations, more or less. Pop, country, and classic rock. These are trying to appeal to as many people as possible, which is a form of compromise, and when compromises happen everyone loses. True, pop music employs a lot of autotune, but at least they disguise it better than they did 5 years ago when T-Pain, who is no singer, would sing in perfect pitch and sound like a human keyboard. Thing is, almost every age has had popular music and every age has had types of music to counter that.Saying music these days isn’t real is like saying all food is fast food because McDonalds sells a lot of food. Not true, you have to be proactive in searching for music you like—if you were, you would find that there are tons of genres out there that are innovating and don’t make use of autotune. Metal with all its subgenres, indie rock, electronica with all its subgenres—look around. People who say all modern music is garbage are the types of people who refuse to listen to music that was made after 1980, and those people aren’t really qualified to talk about modern music in a public forum at all. Some people aren’t picky about music and they don’t treat it as an important aspect of their lives. Though a lot of pop is designed for these people, some pop artists have actual legitimate talent (like Tove Lo).

Does Imagine Dragons use autotune?

Yes

How come punk, rock and metal bands don't use AutoTune?

You'd think that maybe half would, but I actually can't think of one band of those genres that use AutoTune. When I say AutoTune, I mean using it to perfect the voice, pitch and tone because their voices sound kind of bad. Using it for special effects, don't count.

Why do people like country music all of the sudden?

Because it's not country. Songs with drum loops and electric guitars, auto-tune and boom boom boom, shaking it and hick hop.. not country. It's all a marketing scheme, no corporate big wig gives two craps about tradition, they just care about the dollar bills y'all. They call whats on the radio country, and people are stupid enough to fall for it.

Why don't rock and metal bands do so many guitar solos anymore?

Two reasons: 1) the influence of punk and rap and 2) they probably lack the talent. It takes years of practice as well as talent to be able to not only have the chops, but to be able to improvise a solo. In our present "I want it all today, right now society,!" record companies will sign any band with good looks, and fancy instruments, but with a minimum of talent.
