Is The Quality Of Food At A High End Restaurant Really Better Than Say An Outback Steakhouse

What do Australians think of Outback Steakhouse?

Pizza Hut is more authentically Italian than Outback is Australian. At least their food is derived from Italian cuisine. Most Australians probably haven't heard of Outback Steakhouse. I'm Australian, and have eaten at Outback in London (yes, an Australian-themed American Restaurant in London) and spent some time in the US, visiting more than a few steakhouses there.Outback is an American steakhouse selling American food with a superficial Australian theme. There is literally nothing Australian about it apart from the kitschy decor and the names they've given to American dishes. That said, I did hear they were serving kangaroo meat at some places, though I can't see it on the menu online. One of the difficulties of having an "Australian" restaurant is that Australia doesn't have a well-defined cuisine. We don't really have "Australian" restaurants in Australia. There are plenty of typically Australian foods, but they aren't so distinct from British and American foods that you'd immediately notice the difference if it wasn't pointed out.The irony is that Outback points out their "Australian-ness", but doesn't do anything typically Australian. Literally no food on their menu would remind an Australian of home. I'll bet their coffee is awful too.In Australia, we don't really do "steakhouses". They exist, but they aren't really a major genre per se. Making an Australian-themed steakhouse in the US is like creating a British-themed noodle bar in Hong Kong. Possible, maybe even successful, but not very British.

Is Outback Steakhouse a respected restaurant?

As the anonymous responder above answered, it does depend on who you speak to.From this Aussie living in America, no.  Unfortunately their weak attempt to portray their chain as Australian is just that, weak.  Unfortunately though they need a gimmick, and they've chosen to be 'Australian', otherwise they would be just another chain restaurant competing against all of the others. You can call it shrimp on the barbie, but unless it is actually a prawn, don't attempt to pass it off as Australian.  Instead of just calling themselves 'Australian' they should serve more traditional Australian dishes such as lamb with mint jelly, corned beef with veggies, steak and mushroom pie, damper (in lieu of rolls/bread), pavlova and sticky date pudding to name just a few.  Although Australia does have a vast cuisine especially with Greek and Asian influences and although quite a lot of 'Australian' fare hailed from the English, it is definitely not American. They do however, so I've been told, have great service, a catchy phrase that most will remember and their prices are reasonable for what you get.

How is the chicken fried steak at Outback Steakhouse?

Eating out is a special occasion around here. Is the chicken fried/country fried (CFS) a "real" steak? Say, comparable to Chili's? I hate ordering CFS only to get a TV dinner style steak. I like a nice steak with a thick crunch crust on it--not some barely battered, nearly-steak faker wanna be.

If you've tried it and advise against it....what chain restaurant offers a nice chicken fried steak? We're Texans, though cheap, but quality counts on CFS. (No place is like my mom's I should just give my mom $12.49 to make me one! HA HA)

Does a $50 steak actually taste better than a $10 steak?

I work in a steak house where our steaks start at $50 and run up to $190 for a Wagyu 250gr (9oz) NY Strip. Each steak has a different country of origin, we have 2 main breeds of cattle (Angus and Wagyu) and i would suggest 2 different ways of feeding the cattle (i.e grain fed and grass fed). All told with area, cut and size we have over 30 options on our menu. I would say that each of the steaks is excellent at its peak and not that great at its nadir. The difference is if you're going to charge $50 your margin for error with the guest is very slim. If the guests isn't impressed by a $50 steak he's not trying it again, ever. A $10 steak you could probably talk them into it. So it's pretty important that we are consistently excellent with our steaks. You should also bear in mind that steaks aren't identical uniform products, like hamburgers. Why would a steak cost more than an other? The cost of producing it. From genetics of the cattle through feed, slaughter, butchery, aging and the expertise of cooking it. Some others may suggest some more factors out there and they may well be right. If you're willing to make the best decisions irrespectve of costs at each stage of production then you should consistently produce the best steaks. If not then you might get lucky once in a while but largely it will not taste great. What I will also tell you, I once went with a group of friends to a $7 steak night. I expected the worst and actually had a great steak. All my friends ate leather. On the flip side, at my place we still get legitimate complaints about our steaks despite all the lengths we go to, but they are few, well below 1% of the steaks that we sell. So the difference between a $10 steak and a $50 is an almost nailed on, guaranteed quality.

What's better The Cheesecake Factory or Outback Steakhouse for a date?

I think The Cheesecake Factory; it's more upbeat, has a wide variety of items on the menu, and it has reliably good food. The only downside is that it can be noisy.

Outback Steakhouse?

Has anyone noticed that Outback is cutting corners as of late in order to regain some profits? The wine is now served in a mini size carafe and then to be poured into a larger wine glass giving you about 1/2 a glass of wine. The BBQ ribs have 2 less bones in a full rack. Anything that does not have a posted weight like pork chops and chicken are now cut smaller. I can say the prices have not gone down but almost everything else has including the crowds.

Ruby Tuesday or OutBack Steakhouse?

Outbeak beats Ruby by all means

Why do most Outback Steakhouses have a long wait at dinner, despite serving clearly horrible food?

Based on my experience it's advertising that gets customers. It's also the level of the restaurant.Advertising is the key- family steak place with an “Australian” flare (sic).Level — Outback is casual dining. That may be part of its appeal. Bring your family, your deaf m.i.l., your uncle who always manages to spill his beer all over his shirt. For what I paid for my last dinner at Outback I could have gone to it's sister restaurant Fleming’s. Fleming’s is more upscale, more sophisticated yet offers a much better quality of food for a few bucks more than Outback.Edit- Thank you for catching my typos.
