Is The Toyota Prius A Hatchback

Where is the battery on a toyota prius?

The previous answers nailed it for location. The 12v battery is the battery that starts the car and is indeed in the trunk. It's life is similar to any other automotive battery. Upwards of 10 years is possible, but fairly unlikely. Climate heavily influences this. Extreme cold and extreme heat both reduce any battery’s life expectancy. The hybrid drive battery pack should be roughly under the rear seats or trunk pan area. This pack has a much higher life expectancy, but will still wear out over time. Again, climate plays havoc on the batteries.Early hybrids had battery packs that had to be replaced as a whole unit to the tune of $2500+. More modern units are modular and have individual packs that can be replaced. Still quite pricey, but more manageable.

Is there a prius without hatchback?

The current generation of Toyota Prius, the NHW20 model, is a midsize hatchback. It first went on sale in late 2003, for the 2004 model year.

Prior generations of the Toyota Prius were a compact sedan. The NHW11 model was sold internationally between 2000 and 2003, for the 2001-2003 model years (often referred to as the Classic Prius). The NHW10 model was originally only sold in Japan (but is now being seen in other markets (like the UK, New Zealand, Australia) as a used import) in 1997-2000, for the 1998-2000 model years. (Yes, the Prius is celebrating it's 10th anniversary this year!)

(In the UK and some other countries, model year is usually the year sold, and not the usual model year designations that most are accustomed to in the US... So, the NHW11 may be a 2000-2003 in the UK, for example.)

So, if you want a Prius that isn't a hatchback, then you'll have to find a used 2003 or older model year. Be aware that the production numbers were relatively low for the NHW11 model, so you won't find too many available. (For example, Toyota has sold about 2x as many NHW20 Prius in the USA just between the months of Jan-July 2007 (110,000+), as compared to my estimations of all of the NHW11 Prius sold in the US in 2000 through 2003 (53,000+).)

If you want a hybrid with a trunk, you may want to investigate the many other models available either new or used. check out http://www.greenhybrid.com/ for more info. (Myself, I'd look into a Toyota Camry Hybrid if I couldn't find a used NHW11, as I like trunks!)

What is the difference between the Toyota Prius Hatchback vs. the Touring models?

Things on the Touring edition not on the standard one:

- Tuned suspension (probably a stiffer ride).
- 16" wheels (the standard one has 15" wheels)
- High-Intensity Discharge headlamps (standard edition has the regular halogens).

The rest of the stuff on the Touring is the same as the very-top-of-the-line configuration in the standard edition (package #6).

Hope this helps.

How do you open the rear hatch on a Toyota Prius?

Hi,

the rear hatch is opened using an electronic switch. You press this switch when you lift up on the edging just above the license plate.

All Prius have this electronic switch and when the rear hatch is raised, you can see the black cover for the electronic switch just above the license plate.

There is another way to open the rear hatch manually, bypassing the electronic switch.

There is an access plate on the rear cargo wall, closest to the license plate, on the inside of the Prius. You can see it if you remove the cargo cover on the large black cargo bin.

You'll see a small black rectangle, about 4-5" long at the side of the cargo bin closest to the license plate. If you pop that rectangle off (or remove the black cargo bin), you will see a lever that can be moved sideways. Moving that lever will also unlatch the rear hatch.

It is possible for the electronic switch to not work if the 12 volt accessory battery (not the nickel metal hydride hybrid battery) has been drained down, just as in any vehicle (playing the radio or navigation system, leaving the lights on, etc. without running the engine). That's why they put that secondary lever in, just like any vehicle with an electronic switch should have.

Check the owner's manual, all of this information is in there.

What's the difference between Toyota Prius packages?

The best resource for you is the Toyota.com website, but in lieu of that here is the basics...

Base Prius - no smart-key, no VSC(Vehicle Stability Control), no cruise control

Most common is Package #2 - Cruise control, Heated outside mirrors, upgraded stereo with 6-speakers, smart-key system, and in current year and late 2008 models, backup camera with VSC.

Once you get package #5 or 6, you get the DVD navigation system with an upgraded audio system, HID lights with package #6 including Leather.

Hope this helps.

What's the difference between a toyota prius and a toyota prius touring?

The Touring edition became a new Prius trim line beginning with the 2007 model year.

Sorry to rehash the Toyota marketing release, but:
http://pressroom.toyota.com/Releases/Vie...
says "The new 2007 Prius Touring Edition provides more spirited driving responses due to its European-tuned suspension and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Prius Touring Edition is distinguished externally by the new wheels, a larger rear spoiler, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps and integrated fog lamps."

So, the HID headlamps and foglamps are standard on the Touring edition (they're in some option packages otherwise). The Touring Edition has the 16" wheels (same wheel size as Europe) instead of the basic US 15" wheels. The US Touring edition has a larger rear spoiler than the base US Prius. And there's the "tuned suspension" that is supposedly more like the European cousin, but I haven't read the 2007 Toyota New Car Features manual yet to say what is different about the suspension. There are also some interior/exterior color options that are different between the base and touring edition Prius.

As such, the US Touring edition Prius has a starting $23,370 MSRP, while the base Prius has a starting $21,500 MSRP.

Why did Toyota make the Prius so ugly?

Because their customers won’t let them have it any other way. When they first designed the car, they intended to maximize its highway efficiency through better aerodynamics. The best possible aerodynamic shape for a car looks like this:Ref: Aerocivic - Honda Civic modifications for maximum gas mileageor maybe this:(see also: An Illustrated History Of Automotive Aerodynamics - In Three Parts )These aren’t particularly practical - the wheel skirts can be a royal pain when you need to change a tire, and that long sloping back makes getting into the trunk difficult to impossible. Super aerodynamic cars like this, one way or another, are a royal pain in the butt at times. So Toyota took this shape, and chopped off the back a bit and gave up on wheel well skirts. They were engineering compromises. Now, there are other ways to make a super aero car… here’s one:nice, huh? However, the Prius has a bit of an branding problem.Namely, that it’s now recognizable as a Prius. You could accomplish the same aerodynamics with a different and/or better design, but then it wouldn’t look like a Prius. This became apparent when other hybrids came along that got the same mileage as the Prius, but didn’t see anywhere near the same sales numbers of the Prius. People have been buying them to show the world that they’re trying to save the world through better gas mileage. A Ford Fusion Energi can only be discerned from a normal Ford Fusion by a badge on the door, even if it gets better mileage than a Prius. But the Energi only sold about 15,000 copies in 2015, vs the Prius’ 200,000 or so.It’s probably also the reason that the Mitsubishi iMiEV and the Nissan Leaf look as odd as they do. Nissan in particular has a long history of making odd-looking cars that stand out on purpose. See also the funky looks of the Cube and the Juke.So yes, The Prius looks ugly because of aerodynamics and branding.

What Toyota Prius models have an aux jack which I can connect my iPhone to?

The 2006 and up models have the female 3.5mm TRS aux jack in the center console (under the arm rest) starting with the first option package, my 2007 dealer pamphlet mentions that it is a part of option package 1, so if the car has the Smart Key System it should also have the aux jack.

An easy way to check if a 2004-2009 (NHW20 model) Prius has smart key is to look for 3 square black buttons, one on each front door handle and one on the rear hatch to the right of the Toyota logo. These buttons lock the doors when you press them while you have the smart key FOB on you, which is helpful as if a door or the hatch isn't properly closed the car will refuse to lock and just beep instead. FWIW the hatch being ajar is the #1 cause of a dead 12v battery.

Edit: for 2006 it was package 2 and up, but is still added along with smart key.
