Is The Us/ds Light Supposed To Blink On An Xfinity Comcast Modem

Why do the lights of my Comcast modem keep blinking?

The main lights you want on the typical Comcast/Xfinity modem would be the “Power” light and the “Online” light. Both of those should be solid lights, not flashing. If “Power” is blinking then you have no power. If “Online” is blinking then you are not online, but the modem may be trying to find the online signal. As long as “Power” and “Online” are lit solid, the rest may be flashing or solid. Usually flashing would indicate that the option is in use, such as a “Wifi” light blinking may indicate that Wifi is in use. A “Phone” light blinking may indicate that the phone is in use.US/DS stand for Upstream and Downstream. If those are flashing while “Online” is lit solid, it would mean that they are in use. If they are flashing while “Online” is not lit solid then they may indicate that the modem is trying to find the signal to get online.

Comcast/Xfinity modem us/day light flashing no internet.?

Okay so I've got comcast and the usds light keeps flashing and I have no internet. I've tried resetting it and even unplugging it for 10 minutes and I turn it back on and it goes right back to flashing with no internet. Please help need fix. Been trying to fix it for over an hour now.

Ps it's a new modem as well so I know it's not the hardware. It's been working for over 2 weeks now and this all of sudden started happening.

Comcast xfinity router issues?

Our apartment has a comcast xfinity router, and for the past week we've been experiencing issues. Normally, there are a sequence of lights that must be lit for it to run normally: power, US/DS, online, and wifi. When it works, all those lights are lit and the wifi one flickers very fast. Recently, our internet will suddenly stop working and I will find that the "online" light is blinking. The odd thing is, later it will randomly fix itself and work fine--maybe for just 15 minutes, maybe for a whole day. But sooner or later, it blips out again. We have tried resetting it, tried leaving it unplugged for some time, etc. Often, out of frustration I will unplug the power cord and/or the cable and replug them and then sometimes that will fix it--but again, only for a small amount of time. We have called Comcast and they claim it is the router, which is only several months old, and that they will send us a new one. I am not so sure that the router is the issue. Anyone have any wisdom? I am looking to get this fixed ASAP, as I have a skype interview soon and need consistent connectivity.

My modem isn't working or Xfinity on demend. US/DS keeps blinking, help?!?

Comcast modem not working?

I just got my self install kit from Comcast and my internet modem is not working. All my connections are good. My US/DS light is gosslong and hasn't stopped but my wifi and power button are on. Also my online button is not on at all and the self install kit indicates that should be the one flashing. Help please I am currently STILL an hour and a half later waiting to even talk to a representative...

What do the lights mean on my rented Comcast modem router mean?

Power - should be self explanatoryUS/DS - slow blink is searching for downstream, fast blink is downstream locked but looking for upstream. Solid is downst and upstream channels lockedOnline - blinking means it is getting DHCP, timing, RF power, etc… solid all options negotiated and you are now online

What do the different colors of lights in an Ethernet port mean?

Flashing lights mean activity - no matter what the light is. If it is US/DS, then it is on the Upstream and Downstream. If it is ONLINE, then it almost done connecting to the internet. If it is on WIFI or ethernet then it communicating with one or more devices on your network. That’s a good sign. You don’t want that light off if you have a device plugged into the ethernet. That’s bad.Now as far as colors. That is determined by the manufacturer of the device. There is no standard color when it comes to routers or modems. It’s all different! Since I don’t know the manufacturer or model of the device I will just have to use an example. That is an Arris DG1670A. Which is commonly used with Charter Business Accounts. That model has two color lights on the back: Green/Amber. Green means that the port is running at 1 Gbps. Amber means that it is running at 100 Mbps. If you see Amber that means something connected to that port is not compatible with gigabit speeds. The device automatically slowed itself down to compensate. Is that a problem?Provably not. Most internet speeds are not fast enough for you to notice. Only at speeds faster than 100 are you going to notice the difference. Or if you transfer large files between the computers. Otherwise - your fine for now. Worry about it when it becomes a problem. If you want more specific information then please include the model and make of your router. That will help us explain more. Hope that helps you understand modem/router lights. Take care.

My Comcast Modem Resets Itself Randomly.?! Help.!?

It sounds like something is interfering with your cable modem's signal. Since the modem is essential an Radio Frequency receiver and your cable wire is nothing more than an antenna its quite easy to cause problems.

The next time this happens, you should note the time and check the signal to noise ratio of both your digital cable box (assuming you have one) and your modem.

On most digital cable boxes you can do this by powering off the unit, then turning it on and pressing the [info] and [select] button at the same time. You may also be able to select a diagnostics mode showing this information via menu choices using the remote.

On the modem you typically can go to the one of the following websites when the modem is not receiving a signal and it will display the modems diagnostics information.

http://192.168.0.100
http://192.168.1.100

Keep in mind that these two links will most likely not work when your modem is working.

In any case, you should record the time that it's happening and keep a log. Then walk around your home to see if any electronic devices are being used during this time frame. Microwaves, TV's, hot tubs, and other items that may be used during this time can potentially cause problems for your modem.

If that doesn't work, call the company back out there and show them the logs. Then insist that the cable technician walk your home using his meter looking for signal leaks. If there's an obvious one then they'll be able to find it. When they're doing this they'll plug a tiny antenna to their portable meter and walk around your home. If signal leakage is present then it'll make a squealing noise.

Check out the signal leakage section in the link below for a few more details.

Good luck,
Rick
