They’ll have something if the site is connected with a company. So if you curious to check out whether the company behind the site is legit, then the BBB is a great place to go.They’ll give you a rating on the company, as well as any reviews or complaints about those specific companies.And finally, another great place to search is the FTC’s website (Federal Trade Commission). How can you check if a website is safe and not a scam?
Do a google search of the website name and url and look for reviews. (Reviews written in forums by real people.)Look for ssl certificate information for the domain name. (Most reputable sites are using ssl by now.) SSL Certificate CheckerDo a whois search of the domain url and see what registration information is available on the url in question.(see if the information matches the website or seems fishy, check dates of registration and contact info.)Look for good contact information on the website, contact them, begin a dialog. Call any associated phone numbers, send an email or use their contact form if available.(I would never reccomend to trust a website that has no contact form easily found.)Check Scam Advisor http://www.scamadviser.comCheck Rip Off Report Scams, reviews, complaints, lawsuits and frauds. What is a website to check if a site is legitimate? Or could one of you tell me if this is a fake/scam?
The easiest way to tell if a site is not legitimate is a whois tool like ICANN WHOISIf you lookup any big-name site like Apple or Google, it will be registered to Apple or Google. If you get an email from something like apple-security.com, saying your password needs to be changed, and check that domain, it won’t. In my opinion, having “private” whois information is a sign of a fraudulent commercial site - it leads one to suspect there is no actual business address. But it’s perfectly reasonable for a personal blog or vanity email, instead of publishing a home address and phone number.There are sites like Trend Micro Site Safety Center that will tell you if a site is associated with malware or spam. Just searching a domain in google will provide clues - an illegitimate site will have hits from fraud trackers and forums, rather than from their own website and favourable product reviews.If a site is “secure” (uses SSL, with an https: URL), the certificate should match the domain. Your browser should complain if it does not. Clicking on the padlock in Firefox will show extra information about the certificate. An Extended Validation Certificate (green in Firefox) will show as e.g. “verified by Symantec”. The details should make sense - the certificate subject should match the website, e.g. Apple’s has an address in Cupertino. A free or inexpensive certificate just means that the person who obtained the certificate has control of the domain - they can update the website or its DNS. It’s a red flag if they can’t - if the certificate is issued to someone else.These measures won’t tell if a small business site is legitimate, selling legal goods, but they will often tell if a site is phishing, or trying to fraudulently trade on a similar-sounding name. Or, sometimes, that a small site is not well managed, or cannot afford professional maintenance.

scamadviser is owned by Minerva services llc registered in the Seychelles, I have been researching one company, and what I have found is well disturbing, there is a network of people around the globe that are all interlinked, and between them they have 1,000′s of sites, Minerva bought scam adviser and uses it to protect the network of scum that feed off of trusting people and even the not so trusting, you will if you investigate and dig deep that most scam or consumer reporting sites are owned by the same group of individuals, Scam adviser states it uses location and other methods to determine if a site is trustworthy, well they state that firestartersystemsllc.com is safe even though it is run out a house in the middle of nowhere, along with countless others. even ripoffreport is suspect no I take that back there in on it. it seems that Minerva was one of the first, and as these lowlife conmen came into contact with each other they realized what a sweet deal they could make watching each others backs, and if they snag an investor, they just spend the money by buying products and software from the group and hey I’m sorry it didn't work. I believe that google, bing, along with godaddy and the rest of the gatekeepers need to take responsibility for what they allow and private registration should be illegal.
