Is There A Fault With My Nikon D3100

How to set the nikon d3100 to 'bulb' mode?

Yes, set it to Manual Mode.

Then, changing the shutter speed, scroll down till you see 30" and then scroll down one more.

This way, the shutter will stay open for as long as you hold the shutter button down.

Yes, it's the 'M' on the mode dial.

How can I make the best use of my Nikon D3100?

TAKING IMAGESThe Nikon D3100 is a good beginner digital single-lens reflex camera ( DSLR ) which gives you the possibilities to create very good images. If you have the standard lenses, you will have problems to get specific shots. But with enough light and some practice of getting the right perspective for a shot you will achieve even with the standard lenses a very good result. If you are a beginner, you should be aware that it is very important to first learn how the camera works manually. Like the other answers already point to, learn how to work with these 3 elements at the beginningshutter speedaperture settingsiso settingsI also found a good Youtube video where you can learn how to improve the image making process for a specific situation. This guy is testing the Nikon D3100 and comparing it to another DSLR. Like he is mentioning at the end, this is more a consumer camera that will give you the possibility to get into DSLR photography.FILM RECORDINGIf it comes to recording, it won’t be a problem if you take shots that might take about 5 minutes. Or if you take more shots with a few minutes. It is about the cameras chip that seems to heat up while recording.I normally used the GoPro, and so I never had any problem to let it record as long as it has battery. But if you will put the Nikon D3100 to record a video for the whole 10 minutes for two times, it will maybe even stop before the second scene was finished and you will have to wait the camera to cool down before it allows you to record another scene. It’s important to keep it in mind. If you will have to record scenes that will take more than 20 minutes you will definitely need another camera otherwise you’re going to loose footage! If it gets to shoot scenes that will move quickly you will have problems with the footage, it might not be useful because the Nikon can’t really catch it clear. Things will turn out flickering or disformed….Furthermore you might have problems with the Auto Focus while recording. If you use it while recording, the sound of focus sound of the lenses will be notable on the footage later. Nothing bad about this as you should always be on manual do work yourself on the focus or with an extended gear. It’s no problem I think, you can prepare things, but keep it in mind.

I have a problem with my Nikon D3100?

Its something with the memory. I only have 44 pictures on my memory card, and its 8 GB. I don't know what happened, but now, I can't take any more pictures.
Its hard to explain. Heres what I do.
First, I take a picture. Second, I try to playback the picture. (I press the play button). It doesnt let me see the picture. So I turn off the camera. I turn it back on, and the playback button doesnt work anymore. So I take out the battery, put it back in, and turn on the camera again. I press the playback button, and the picture is gone! I don't know whats wrong. Do you think its the camera or the memory card?

Is the Nikon D3100 worth buying in 2018?

I bought a D3100 back in 2012, and I’m planning to retire it soon. It still works fine and the photos are the same as they were back in 2012. That is the problem.D3100 was launched back in 2010, and 2019 is almost here. That means the technology inside it is almost a decade old.The world of optics hasn’t changed much over the past few decades, but as image sensors become faster and bigger, picture quality has dramatically changed consistently over the past few years. (Dubbed Smartphone-Age)D3100 is bulky and heavy, has a slow processor, performs poorly under low-light conditions, doesn’t shoot 1080p video among other issues. It was the perfect entry-level DSLR upto 2014, post which started losing it’s charm. If you’re looking at entry level DSLRs, I suggest you look at at-least D3300 if not higher above. (You can also look at Canon and Sony, they are awesome too.)

How can I take sharp pictures with my Nikon D3100?

I want you to understand how the Aperture priority mode works. You set the aperture, the camera sets the shutter speed. Now, in case the aperture is wide open, and still not enough light, the shutter speed drops to levels where even with VR, you shall get camera shake. So, unless its unavoidable, do not use the A mode. Now, have a fast enough shutter speed and stop down the lens to at least a couple of stops than wide open. The results should be sharp.Senk Photography

Can I repair the shutter on my Nikon D3100?

Hard to tell without the exact code but before running back to the store you bought the camera from, try this.

Take out the lens then return it. Make sure it clicks in place. Try to shoot. IF that does not work, try cleaning the electrical contacts on both ends with clean cotton tipped swabs. Do not touch any glass. While the lens is out, check if the reflex mirror is down. If you don't see a mirror, it's raised and what you will see is the shutter instead. If this is the case, the mirror is jammed. Try easing the mirror down gently with your finger tip. If it doesn't budge, don't force.

If all else fail, you have no choice but to have your camera serviced. Do not forget to bring the sales receipt.

Image noise problem on my nikon d3100?

1. Of course you will see the noise if you zoom in - don't do that if you don't want to see it. Pixel peeping is not how people will be viewing your images - they will be viewing the image at normal sizes. Once printed, or resized for the web, the noise will be less visible.

2. The lens you use does not affect the amount of noise. Digital noise is wholly down to the ISO you use. The higher the ISO, the more noise you will get. If you used an automatic exposure mode, and the lens has a wider aperture than your kit lens, that might explain why you get better results with that lens - the camera will be adjusting the ISO accordingly. Wider apertures are useful in low light conditions - unfortunately lenses with wider apertures are considerably more expensive. Slower shutter speeds will also help, but then you may need to use a tripod to prevent camera shake.

3. Yes your camera should still be pretty good up to ISO 800 and even higher. But it would be better if you shot RAW and processed the noise out yourself when you process the image (you should have software that came in the box which can do it). That way you get full control of how much noise reduction is applied to the image.

I got a Nikon D3100 about a week ago. The shutter speed has slowed significantly and I don't know why.?

Have you started taking photos say inside or in low light conditions just today? Even on automatic, the shutter speed will change according to lighting conditions.

The downside to automatic mode is that you have no control over the shutter speed, which is why most DSLR users eventually use the manual or priority modes.
