Most apps dislike animated gifs with a passion, mainly because it is not a single picture, but a sequence of pictures compressed in 1 file. Wile jpg, bmp, png and even tiff usually are handled by the operating software (on android and IOS) the creator of an app can just write a code of ‘put a picture here’ instead of having to write how to understand the picture and how to display it, as the will have to do with an animated Gif
