Is There A Steady Tool In Paint Tool Sai

Why is my lineart terrible? (Paint Tool Sai)

There could be a number of reasons why you feel your lineart is bad•Your tool settings •Your technique •Your stabilizer is low•Your resolution is low Personally, I use these settings for my lining tool (marker)You can modify it to whatever you like, but I usually keep it close to the original. It also helps to keep a medium-high stabilizer on. The stabilizer helps smooth out your lines, and it especially helps when you have a shaky hand like me. I keep it at about 12, but any of the really high ones are smoother but really slow. Here's where the stabilizer is:It also helps to keep your resolution up. The lower the resolution, the higher the pixelation, so the higher resolution images will be sharper and more focused. Be careful, though, because more resolution uses more memory, and that can make your computer slower. Really, though, it all comes  to technique and experience. I definitely learned a lot from experience. In almost two years, I have improved a lot in my lining and drawing in general.  Here's some lineart I made about a year and a half ago: And here's something I made about a week and a half ago: Now, granted, the second one is only a sketch, but it's very close to the actual lineart. My point is, it takes practice and experience to get better, and don't be afraid to experiment  ;)

What's up with Paint Tool Sai?

Paint Tool SAI a raster drawing application - it was designed specifically for drawing, unlike GIMP or Photoshop. But it's not free, and it hasn't had an official update since 2008 - it's maintained by fans so that it will run on modern operating systems therefore I guess the developers have abandoned it. I don't know why it's as popular as it is because ultimately it's quite a simple application, and better applications do exist. It's nowhere like as capable as Photoshop or GIMP as far as photographic image editing is concerned.

To be honest, I much prefer MyPaint which is Open Source software for raster drawing - I like how it simulates traditional media such as watercolour, pen, pencil etc. http://mypaint.intilinux.com/ Also GIMP can be customised to make it better for digital drawing by using GPS (GIMP Paint Studio) - http://code.google.com/p/gps-gimp-paint-... which is free.

For vector art you would be better with a vector image editor such as Adobe Illustrator (expensive)- or the open source vector image editor Inkscape http://www.inkscape.org which is free.

How to do line art on paint tool sai?

So, you mean you want to trace? If you want to trace over someone's own picture, bring the opacity of their layer down, then create a new layer above and trace using thee pen tool set to lowest min size and highest density. Or, create a 'linework layer' over the original lowered opacity piece. The linework layer button will be directly next to the 'new layer' button.
Then, you can use the tools there to make your lines more accurate if you don't have a steady enough hand.

How to change color on a selected area in Paint Tool SAI?

Chex's sounds very time consuming its very simple actually.

If you want to change the color of one layer select your color then check opacity lock above the layer drop down. This will lock the layer and only allow you to color what is drawn on that layer.

they have hue and contrast options on the top menu of the program under "Filter"

to fill in line art(must be your line art, coloring pages from deviantart dont work) you use the wand tool and hold shift to select the white you want colored in your lines like say you select arms and face. If all of your lines are closed you should have the arms and face selected alone.

Create a new layer, and select your color then fill the selected area. doing this will only allow you to color the face and arm until you unselect them by clicking outside of the face and arms. make sure that layer is below the lines and viola fast coloring! :) once you get a hang on it it will only take you like less than a minute to fill your base colors on.

Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop, Manga Debut 4.0 or your suggestion? (Art help!!)?

In using any art tool, you have to have an adequate amount of art skill and knowledge to use it properly. For example, if you really want to make a darker color for shades/shadows, you're better off choosing that color yourself rather than letting the pallet do the work for you. Of course, this requires that your eyes be able to tell the appropriate shades when a shadow is cast on an object, so if I were you, I would do some color/light studies.

There are a few "cracked" versions of Paint Tool SAI floating around the web, but obviously we can't link them here, as it is illegal.

Once again, this sort of thing takes practice. Most of the professional artists who draw line art over a rough sketch will freehand the clean version, not use a lineart layer. Naturally, this requires you to have very steady hands, which only comes after a lot of practice.

No matter what tool you use, if you don't work on these issues yourself, you'll have these problems everywhere you go.

Photoshop Elements or Paint Tool SAI?

I'm interested in getting into digital art, and I was just wondering which program is better / which people prefer. I understand people will have different opinions, but I just want to get a general sense. I also understand that more people will have SAI because it's less expensive (I think), but money isn't an issue here.alre

I feel like I can color fine on Photoshop, but doing lineart is really annoying - I would love to have a curved line tool because it's really hard for me to keep my lines steady enough with my tablet (I'm still getting used to it). I feel like a curved line tool is a pretty basic thing (hell, even MS Paint has it), so I don't know why Photoshop Elements doesn't have one, but I'm not going to rant.

I've heard people raving about SAI, but I don't know anything about how it works and I'm not exactly sure what functions it has that would be different.

(I already have Photoshop Elements 7.0, by the way.)

Can I deselect an entire color or frame in Paint Tool Sai? Is there an option for that?

I'm trying to color some pictures that I've drawn recently, but I end up coloring the frame and ink strokes that I shouldn't. I was wondering if there was any way I can avoid that besides tracing back over every line in the drawing with deselect. I don't have a very steady hand to do that on a tablet pc, as there is no friction between the screen and pen like a normal pencil and paper, nor do I have the patience. I have seen pictures from a tutorial in which the frame is perfectly in tact while they color, but they used photoshop. I have that too, and I'll admit that I am not at all bright when it comes to computer art, but I would like to know if anyone could help with my problem. Please be as descriptive as possible or recommend me a very detailed step by step guide of how to go about solving the problem for either Photoshop and/or Paint Tool Sai.

Thank you.
