Is there any legit website for cheap prom dresses?

Hi, thanks for the question! There are tons of places to check out online, but I'd throw down the following list as good places to start: I would say Prom Outfitters Luxury Designer Evening Gowns & Prom Dresses Online has a pretty big reputation online, you see them mentioned in a lot of places.  However, I've done a bit of background checking on the site and reviews vary.  So, you might want to do a bit more of your own reasearch before making any final decisions on them. The following are very reputable:Shop Forever 21 for the latest trends and the best deals Check out their "fit and flare" and "night out" dresses.Very affordable and a big online eseller - although judging by reviews it seems their return services are a bit shady: Shop Body-Con Dresses, Maxis & Party Dresses At Nasty GalOf course, Bloomingdales - but, then you're going to be spending a fairly decent penny: Designer Dresses, Clothes, Shoes, Handbags, Cosmetics, Home and More I personally own a couple of dresses from Maggy London - I love them. Their prices are pretty reasonable too: Home page Finally, one of the girls in our office thinks pretty highly of Asos: Hot New Brands | Labels & Vintage Boutiques | ASOS Marketplace Additionally, here's a post that the lovely ladies in our office put together in April - this might help you out also: 6 Top Prom Dresses | Our PicksIf you like this answer, feel free to follow me on Quora for more solid information :D. http://quora.com/Aileen-Schultz

What should I do if my prom dress is too big?

Finding someone to do alterations is by far the best bet, but if you're short on cash due to the many other expenses associated with prom there are a few more options. You can likely do some alterations on your own. Safety pins are a lifesaver when it comes to taking dresses in. These can also be taken out with minimal damage if you plan to re-sell the dress. If the top of the dress is too loose, a bigger bra (or stuffing) can help fill it out. Do this within reason, however. If the waist is too large consider adding on a tie with thick ribbon or by taking it from the bottom or liner of the dress (if it is hemmed or has extra material elsewhere). Tying it tighter this way would look right if you know what you're doing and help keep it on.Adjusting length of straps is also an option. That's how I fixed my sister’s prom dress this weekend. Even if it bunches up a bit it's not a huge deal because if your hair covers the straps it will hide it. No one noticed how my sisters straps were pinned over and not quite right because of her hair.I hope these tips help, and feel free to comment with pictures of the dress. I’d be happy to provide more specific recommendations with that extra information.

How long does it take to get a dress altered?

It will depend on how busy your tailor is. Stipulate very clearly that you need it in FOUR days and see if he or she can do it. If a 2″ waist reduction is all that’s at stake, unless the garment has several layers, it’s doable unless the tailor has a huge backlog.

What are some legit prom dress sites?

Hi, you know, there are plenty of websites selling prom dresses.  Maybe you can go to have a look of Promhope.com . I have once bought one from it. Hope you will find one you like too. Good luck.

Where's a place to find a pretty cheap homecoming dress?

I would second checking Ross and another similar store is Marshall's. It's hit or miss what they have... but sometimes they have really nice dresses for cheap! I know several people that have gotten dresses from Ross for $20-$40.

How long will it take to sew my prom dress?

It depends on how much sewing experience you have, as well as how much time you set aside to complete the dress.Unless you’ve got considerable sewing experience, I’d recommend purchasing a sewing pattern. Go to your local fabric store (or look online) and check out the sewing pattern company catalogues. I usually go to Jo-Ann’s myself, since they often have deals on sewing patterns (hint: use their app!). The main sewing pattern companies that I know of are: Simplicity, McCall’s, Butterick, and Burda. There are also a number of independent sewing pattern companies with excellent dress patterns, such as Colette Patterns[1]and Sewaholic[2].Regardless of what pattern you choose, make sure you take accurate measurements of your body.Photo credit: Clothing 101[3]Sewing pattern sizes vary widely between companies, so don’t be alarmed if your measurements match a size 10 for one pattern and size 16 for another. Also, sewing pattern sizes are very different from ready-to-wear sizes. If you have enough time, I’d also recommend making a muslin (i.e., a practice garment) first, to ensure fit. Now, in terms of fabric, that depends on where you are located (which I didn’t catch in the original question). I live in Los Angeles, where there is a fairly extensive selection of fabrics. We also have the Fabric District in downtown LA, with a number of fabric shops. This may not be the case if you live in a small town. But then again, there’s lots of fabric shops online:Fabric.com: Fabric by the YardMood Fabrics: Fabric | Online Fabrics Store | Mood FabricsMichael Levine’s: Top Designers Shop HereJo-Ann’s Fabrics: Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores - Shop onlineJust to name a few :)Fabric widths tend to be either 45″ or 60″, which can make a difference in how much fabric you have to purchase. Always buy a bit extra. Drop Dead Diva: Will Jane lose weight?

It is not that I agree with shows that promote women to starve. I feel that I am at a healthy weight at a size 5... That's no 2, 1, or 0... I don't want to be that small. But I find it irritating that this show seems to tell society that they need to change everything for plus size women... Size is a choice... I don't believe the crap or excuses people bring. I come from a polynesian background yet I am able to maintain my weight far better than this culture likes to claim they could be. It is all excuses, laziness, and rather repulsive. I am no top model... I don't consider myself shallow. I have a wide variety in types. I just believe that people choose to be fat and I am sick of them not doing something about it. omg! it requires getting off the couch or drinking a diet coke. . . or perhaps not eating out ALL the time.

So is she going to lose weight eventually on the show and give morbidly obese people hope? Perhaps it could reach out in hope and not promote unhealthy life styles

My boyfriend was looking up wedding dresses?

He's moving fast (If he is in your eyes). He's probably going to take your hand in marriage sometime soon. If you don't want to take it to the next level, just tell him something like "I like how thing are going now and I don't want to change a thing" or basically don't give him the opportunity to grab you in the act. If you want to, then just act surprised. Pretend you don't know because things could get awkward.

What is the best prom dress color/style?

‘Best’ is such a subjective term. What is best for you is completely different than what is best for someone else. Here is a list of things to consider when trying to figure out what works best for YOU:Your body type - different dress silhouettes look better on different body types. Choose a dress silhouette that flatters your figure by showing off your best assets and downplays the parts of your body that aren’t your favorite.Your skin tone, hair color and eye color - colors can make a huge impact on whether a dress looks great on you or not. Choose colors that complement your skin tone and hair color and steer clear of those that aren’t the best for you.Current Fashion - though fashions come and go, don’t feel like you have to choose a dress that is on par with the latest trends to make it look ‘the best.’ Classic styles are popular for a reason - they have been flattering many body types for decades! Consider classics if you want to look your best, or a classic style with a trendy twist.Your Accessories / Hairstyle / Shoes / Makeup - Don’t forget that the rest of your prom look plays an important role in looking your best. You aren’t done once you pick the dress! I just penned a new blog post on this at the Jovani blog. Read up if you want to know how I suggest pairing accessories with your dress for maximum overall effect. :)Good luck, and have fun creating your prom look! Don’t stress out and try to enjoy yourself as much as possible.
