Is There A Way To Make My Crown Vic Police Intercepter More Fuel Efficient

How reliable are the Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptors? Do most police department maintain their cars well?

While the police agencies adhere very well to maintenance schedules, you don't want one of their old cars. They are driven stop-and-go all day and sometimes they are driven 24 hours a day. By the time they go to an auction, the cost to keep them running has become prohibitive. You don't want that expense.
If you do decide to get one anyway, you probably can see the maintenance records. They are kept because of liability. If a car is in a crash, everyone wants to know if it is the officer's fault or his equipment.

How quickly does a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor get from 0-60?

Not fast enough, lol. The Crown Vic was the work horse of police agencies across the country and in many others for a long time not so much for its powerful acceleration rate (sarcasm) but rather because it had the right mix of useful attributes. It had a large body, good trunk space, could fit two semi average size officers in the front seat with gear (it could get tight), the V8 engine was big and powerful enough for high speeds and it was durable. Of course this was off the assembly line. In the old days prior to LED lights an extra battery and heavy duty alternator needed to be installed, those along with all manner of other gear (trunk safe, VHS tape deck in the old days), stop sticks, emergency kits and a mess of other stuff) weighed down the car substantially. It was funny to get a new car, take it to the shop that installed all this gear and watch it sink lower as it went in. Additionally, prior to the new LED light bars, the big old light bars created massive drag at high speeds and when they were switched on I swear you could feel car engine work harder while the car actually slowed down lol!Now with the new LEDs and other lighter equipment the load has lessened substantially. Of course the Crown Vic isn’t made anymore and the current police fleet of them is dwindling. Many departments are switching to the Taurus and Explorer police cars and they do very well.

How can i get better fuel efficiency from my Ford Crown Victoria V8?

Would help if we knew what year Vic you have, which engine, and how many mpg you are getting, i.e. is it already getting acceptable mileage or is something wrong ?

Can only tell you my experience: my brother has a '06 Grand Marquis with whatever those came with.....at around 120,000 miles now - - - - I have an '06 Five Hundred with the little 3.0 V6. Both nice cars, but his big Marquis consistently gets 2 to 4 more mpg than my Five Hundred, whatever the driving conditions ....... including about 25 mpg on the highway. Considering the size of the Marquis, I'd say it's pretty efficient already !!

ADDED: for the heck of it, I checked the EPA ratings - again, not knowing what year your Vic is: a 1995 was rate 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway/18 mpg overall...............the 2000: 16/23/18 .................2005: 16/23/19. Those sound pretty good for the size of the vehicle - if you're anywhere in those ranges so as to rule-out mechanical problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

MY GAS TYPE!!! 2000 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?

Won't harm car but will have low performance. What you pay is what you get. Low grade fuel gets lower miles. Higher grade fuel gets little more mileage. Remember that. High octane gives you higher performance and mileage; and lower gives you crappy gas mileage and performance. P.S. Always use octane preference inside slide door by gas cap or on O.E.M gas cap. Will say what octane you should burn and not burn in certain vehicles. Good Luck and let me know if this worked for you. Thanks

How much fuel efficiency will I lose going from a 2.73 to a 3.27 or 3.55 rear axle in a Ford Crown Victoria?

You'll lose about 30 miles per tank, going from a 2.73 to a 3.55. A P71 Crown Vic is not any more powerful than a P73 or P74. The only difference between a P71 and P73 or P74 is the speed at which the PCM limits top speed. A P71 package shuts off fuel delivery at 128 mph. A P73 or P74 shuts it off at 108 mph. Something else to consider, is speedometer accuracy. Make sure you use the correct transmission ouput shaft and VSS driven gear combination to retain correct speedometer reading. The chart goes as follows:
2.73 --------> 17 tooth VSS gear (green) 8 tooth output shaft
3.27 --------> 21 tooth VSS gear (purple) 8 tooth output shaft
3.55 --------> 20 tooth VSS gear (orange)7 tooth output shaft
Hope this helps.

What kind of gas mileage does a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor get?

Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor16/22 (city/hwy)

Are police vehicles better on gas?

I can answer this question as my daily drive is an ex cop car. The engine is a V8. It has external oil cooling so the engine doesn't overheat even on higher rpm . It's built for speed. So for that, gas mileage is compromised. I get around 20 miles per gallon on freeway. If I take it to small roads it drops to 15 miles per gallon which is equivalent to a big SUV like suburban. Apart from the big engine it's very heavy and has more horse power than the stock cars. So it adds to the gas mileage.
