Is There A Way To Tell If A Email Has Been Open

Can someone see when you open their email?

In most circumstances (see exceptions below), the short answer is “no” unless the request a read receipt and your system is set to accept a read receipt (see “Settings” on your email). In some cases, the emailer can embed a uniquely-named image (which can even be a 1-pixel image that’s too small to be seen) in the email and then see that you've opened the email when you download the image from their server, but you can configure your email system to open emails without automatically downloading images (prompting you to “Click here to download images” if you want them). Again, view the settings on your email system. But in short, if your average email user sends you an email and you open it without a read receipt, in normal circumstances, there is no way for them to know whether you opened it or not. However, if a professional emailer sent you an email, the answer is more complicated. For example, if they had cookied you (given your browser a unique tracking number called a cookie) while you were logged in to some service you receive from them (and you are still using that browser and have not yet cleared your cookies), and you had clicked a link in the email that took you back to their website, they may track that and know that you had a click-through event and therefore that you had opened the email. That said, companies don't normally make that information available even to employees on an individual level (not in a way that is connected with your personally identifiable information such as name, email, phone number) because it would be intrusive and creepy for a customer service rep to say, “I see you opened the email we sent you about your bill.” It's more for tracking performance metrics on a wider scale, and sometimes to update your profile in order to make future communications more relevant, etc.

In the options available to you when you're editing your Yahoo! user profile you can elect to show when your Yahoo! account was created. Log in to Yahoo! (any service like Yahoo! Mail will do) then type profiles.yahoo.com/ into the address bar follwed by your exact Yahoo! ID, then click Go or push your Enter key. example: profiles.yahoo.com/dsmozartx
When your profile opens, you'll see an option at the top that says "Edit Profile Information". Click that, then scroll to the bottom of the page when it opens. Got an email "Russian hackers mafia OWNS YOU" and opened it?

Got around ten of same in the past few days. It is sent to a huge mailing list containing emails that seem consecutive in alphabetic order... I always received it from a different sender, but all senders' addresses are really close to me in alphabetic order.

There is no links and no attached file, but I still opened one of them to read it, and guess what, the last one I received was sent by myself... (well, it does not appear in my sent emails, but, this is my address that is used as sender...

I do agree that the best is not to open it. May be some virus in email's HTML content, or simply an identity theft sent by any SMTP server... Would be good that yahoo does something about it.
