How to write a Tv show screenplay?

The standard now is four acts plus a teaser (check out some tv scripts on script o'rama to see how those transitions are signified). Nowadays, though, shows may go for five acts plus a teaser, or even six acts plus a teaser. However, most write the standard four act plus a teaser script, and if necessary, break their longest act (usually act 3 or 4) into two smaller acts to fit a five act format. There are 'beats' within a tv script, which are basically just individual scenes. Acts can have between 3-12 beats in 7-14 pages (depending on the act structure, though note these are just estimates)

To outline an episode, you should do an act grid, which is a grid that's basically labeled "teaser" "act 1" "act 2" "act 3" and "act 4" along the top margin, and number of beats along the side margin. Writers often fill in the individual beats in the little boxes in these grids so that they can "see" the episode really mapped out. Lots of times, tv show episodes have A, B, and C stories (like film subplots) that are interchanged. The A story of an episode may be something to do with the main character (a long standing conflict), while the B story may be something episodic (such as a crime investigation start to finish), while the C story may be comic relief. Some shows have only A and B stories, some have A, B, C, D, E, F, etc stories; as many as they need. When filling the beats in on your episode chart, you can color code each beat to show if it's part of the A story, B story, or C story. If you have a good mix of colors that switch often (for example, yellow, blue, yellow, red, blue, yellow...), that's a good sign. Use any color you want!

Good luck!!

How can I have a header in my screenplay using Celtx?

I don't think you can have a header - there's a title page for author info, etc. And if you're writing a screenplay you don't want the text to be justified - there are strict guidelines that software like celtx and finaldraft adhere to (character speech in x mm, everyting courier 12 or whatever). I realise I'm not answering your question, sorry.

What if my screenplay is stolen from the software I wrote it on?

I find that very hard to believe. Celtx apparently has features for collaboration with other writers over the Internet, but surely you can switch them off. If the Celtx guys tried stealing anyone's screenplay, they'd be sued into the middle of next week. If the screenwriter didn't find out, the Celtx guys would have a hard time making any money out of the screenplay. It's a lot easier than it used to be to make a professional-looking film, but getting anyone to pay to watch it is hard if you don't have the backing of a major studio.

If you're still worried about it, Celtx is far from the only program for writing screenplays. You can do it in almost any wordprocessor - a specialised screenwriting program just takes the donkey work out of formatting it.

Who can help me with script writing?

Your best coach right now will be the software used to do that.Buy a copy of Final Draft 9 or 10. Get to learn the conventions and basics. There are others too. Movie Magic, Celtx, Storyboard, WriteitNow, Contour. Each one works differently. But before you get into writing scripts plan and design your storyline, your plot and characters, locations, settings, etc. These will dictate how your script is going to work.I started out writing novels. After publishing them I went into scripting. At the very beginning of the journey I knew what to do and how to do it. I had no coach. But I did an extensive amount of reading.A good start may be checking out sites which show you completed scripts. You can also download full scripts of famous movies and study them.I have about 25 of the good ones but its too long and laborious to display here. Most of the time I subscribe to leading sites which coach you through. For a start look into Social Network for Film, TV and Theatre Creatives - Education and Pitching - Stage 32 which gives you fairly good coverage. Next go join International Screenwriters Association where you will get a coach and entry to forums. Perhaps you should look at www.Blacklist.com where scripts are displayed each month for persual. Try Celtx - Free Scriptwriting & All-In-One Production Studios who have some pretty good downloads. When you come to the next stage look at Jason Brubakers website. He runs some excellent suggestions. You will need Home Page - Lightspeed eps to break your script down into its component parts for production. Thats if you are going in that direction. This should give you a start into the complex world of movie making. If you have a script already done I could help you with a quick read and suggestions for improvement or tell you honestly if its on the right track.Good luck. Hope you do well. If I come back to this question again I will list all the info graphics on my smartphone to help you polish your work. At the moment i am in pre-production and I tell you there are a thousand new things I still need to learn before the flag drops.Cheers

The 10-Day Screenplay, Does it work?

You may find this site of use. There's no reason to believe this product won't work but experience tells me that you need more help than this product can or will provide. If you're getting stuck at page 17 it's most likely because you are unfamiliar with story telling structure.

Besides the website, a book I also recommend that almost ALL working Hollywood writers are or have used is "The Writer's Journey" Mythic Structure for Writers.
