Is There Any Way To Get A Dvd Copy Of The Wizard Of Oz Before It Was Restored

Did you see the guy hang himself in the Wizard of Oz?

I read a scary story, and thought the story of the man hanging himself was made up. But right when the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Dorothy start walking off, singing "We're off to see the wizard." In the middle of the screen in the background, you see the body swing out. It was a man who really committed suicide they say.

Is the wizard of oz myth about the suicidal dude real? i heard that it was a bird? What part of the Movie?

It's just a myth - it really is just a bird. The videos used to be on youtube. Trying doing a search for wizard of oz myth or wizard of oz suicide.

What is the worst thing you've heard today?

For only 2 payments of $29.99 and free shipping, you can own the full collection of Shirley Temple DVD’s. Now restored in color. And expedited shipping is available.Don’t get me wrong. She was a cute kid. And she was cute in a couple of movies. Growing up with a dad who was 50 when I was born (in the 70’s), I watched a lot of old classic movies. And I liked them. When I was 7.The idea of hours and hours of Shirley Temple now is my idea of fresh hell on earth. Like, enjoying The Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland is great. On occasion. Like once every few years. Or decade. But imagine having to watch it over and over and over. You’d spontaneously combust from sticky sweetness. It would be worse to have to watch all of Shirley Temple’s movies. There would be cotton candy and unicorn shit everywhere after the top of my head blew off.The tap dancing. The constant giggles. The “funny” one-liners. The time period - how many times in her movies were gratuitous PoC used to foster a false sense of community with “others”, who were usually portrayed as servants. Can we say patronizing much? I realize the films were made a few decades before the civil rights movement, but for people today it’s not only uncomfortable to watch, it’s untenable. The worst part of it is that it tells me what I’m watching on tv is tailored to old people. I’m old. This is a moment I never wanted to face. I’m pathetic. It’s a clear impetus for me to climb out of the bottom of this pit of mediocrity. Inner cougar, where are you?So, yes. The worst thing I saw today was an ad on tv for hours and hours of enjoyment of Shirley Temple movies. And people may actually buy that shit.I predict a tidal wave of unicorn shit to come soon. Heed my warning. It will be the next national disaster. Oh, the humanity!

What are the best movies that have religious themes?

The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) directed by Martin ScorseseThe Last Temptation of Christ stars William Dafoe as Jesus and features Harvey Keitel as Judas Iscariot. Barabara Hershey as Mary Magdalene, David Bowie as Pontius Pilate, and Harry Dean Stanton as Paul. It was shot in Morocco. Peter Gabriel composed the intriguing soundtrack, which was released as Passion.  Based on a controversial novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, the film met considerable resistance and protests from fundamentalist Christians in the U.S. and abroad. As a non-fundamentalist Christian who was aware that it was not based directly on the gospels, I found it very moving, as art and spiritually.I agree with movie critic Robert Ebert, who said that it: "paid Christ the compliment of taking him and his message seriously, and they have made a film that does not turn him into a garish, emasculated image from a religious postcard. Here he is flesh and blood, struggling, questioning, asking himself and his father which is the right way, and finally, after great suffering, earning the right to say, on the cross, 'It is accomplished.'The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) directed by Carl DreyerOne the most accomplished and renowned films of the silent era, The Passion of Joan of Arc seems to me to be an indictment of dogma and the perversion of religious belief by political institutions. Renee Jeanne Falconetti (Marie Falconetti) gives an extraordinary performance as Joan's trial, torture and execution. Antonin Artaud acts as one of the monks. Dreyer's directorial style is astonishing - many closeups, unusual angles and modernist framing, and rapid edits. The story of the film after production is fascinating. The master negative of the film was lost in a fire, and the only versions re-created from outtakes and parts of surviving prints. A full original copy was rediscovered in a mental institution in Oslo in 1981 and restored. (I'm so intrigued - what sort of psychologist would show this to a mentally disturbed person?)The DVD version now available through Criterion includes an extraordinary score written in 1994 by Richard Einhorn titled "Voices of Light".
