Is There Any Way To Get Better Phone Reception At My House

What number do I dial to get better cell reception?

I know there's a phone number you're supposed to dial to find the closest cell tower and get better reception wherever you are, but I can't remember what the number is. Can someone help me? I'm with Verizon if that helps.

Thanks a lot!

How do I overclock my antenna on my phone to get better reception?

Antennas do not overclock.
Replace the antenna with a longer one.

How far under ground do you get cell phone reception?

Along with the other answers that are valid, I will also add that the depth (whether a building or underground) also depends quite strongly on the specific frequency among other factors. For example, in the USA, operation at 850 MHz (the first deployed band called Cellular band - used for 2G/3G CDMA/GSM) will do better at penetrating buildings and ground than the next commonly deployed band at 1900 MHz (called the PCS band). The difference from 850 to 1900 result in many dB lower signal strength assuming both were sent at the same transmission power from the tower and used the same encoding protocols. This site: 3 Radio Propagation Modeling containing this image:provides more specifics. The story is also similar when comparing 900 MHz and 1800 Mhz used for 2G/3G GSM in other countries. In general, the higher the frequency, the lower the signal strength and building/ground penetration (assuming the same transmission power from the tower).Of course, there are also other factors such as the composition of the earth (its density and metal content), whether it has any openings, deep metal posts, moisture level, etc., etc., etc.For buildings, whether it is made of concrete, reinforced concrete, or other material, how many glass windows/surfaces it has, etc.Metallized window film in office buildings (for heat/light control) can also dramatically reduce the signal strength of cellular transmissions through glass. Other films for glass made of ceramic (Huper Optik, for example, in automotive applications) will block heat and infra-red light, but not visible light and radio waves. If you can follow the math, this slideshare: http://www.slideshare.net/asadkh... will give you tons of information.

How far up in the sky do you get cell phone reception?

I spent several years making regular flights in the NYPD helicopter. Most of the time, if we were at 1600 feet (about 500 meters) over Manhattan I was unable to get reliable phone reception over most of the city - only when we were close to the Empire State Building and sometimes by the Financial District. I was never able to get anything other than fleeting reception above 1800 feet.I’m willing to bet that Manhattan has a pretty dense network of cell towers - this suggests to me that 1800 feet is close to the maximum altitude under normal circumstances.

How do I improve cell phone reception in remote areas?

There are several companies that make external antennas for even the tiny phones. Some are highly directional and produce some gain, so it's a matter of mounting the antenna outside and pointing it in the direction of the nearest tower. this may limit the portability of your cell phone, you'll need to walk around with it connected to the antenna feed line, but it will work. Ignore some of the gimmicky stuff you see in magazines (in-flight magazines especially) like balls that attatch to your phone antenna, magnets, etc.

Who has the best cell phone reception in the Hollywood Hills straight across from the the House of Blues up?

I'm in LA and my business associate got Sprint, which has a terrible reception and breaks up. I have been with Verizon for over 3 years now and they've always had clear reception.

Even when I'd be on Sunset Blvd., the reception for my Verizon phone was still clear. In fact, my associate originally had Cingular in San Diego and when he moved up to Los Angeles three years ago.

I remember being on Verizon and he'd have to borrow my phone while on Cingular. I don't know if Cingular has made any improvements since. Then I did know there was some scandal in the Pacific Northwest regarding breached contracts with their mergence with another company. I forget which.

I've always been happy with Verizon. They have a really clear reception. That's why other phone companies like Sprint would compete with unlimited minute plans to compensate for the dropped calls.

With Sprint and Cingular, I'd see a lot of dropped calls while roaming. I've never had that problem save for driving in a tunnel.

Bad reception on my cell phone in my mobile home?

This could be because you are in what is essentially an tin can. I mean no offense at all. I go to a downstairs bowling alley all the time and I have the same problem. The brick and machinery doesn't allow any signal in, and this could be the same problem you are having. Your best bet would be to use the phone near a window or see if the company will get you a different model. There are no guaratees that a different phone will work any better though.

Is there a way to get AT&T to improve cell phone reception in an area? (Network performance is spotty around my house.)

There is certain things you can do to bring this to the attention of AT&T - the best thing you can do is download an app called “mark the spot” - tell your friends and family and whoever else you know who uses AT&T to use the app and mark the spot you’re having issues at. This notes your account as well as notifies the engineers who maintain the area. Given enough attention in the area with the app, you’ll begin to notice that work will begin on possible new tower sites / issues with existing towers. Of course, you can call to customer care and explore the issue, but the app is the best way. Hope this helps!

Why do military bases get such poor cell phone reception?

Its because they are so large of an area!! It costs the cell phone companys millions just for one tower... There are also not as many people in one area so the company will not make a lot of money to make it a smart choice. .. I know Verizon coverage has improved in Camp Pandleton over the years.

Does wind affect mobile phone reception?

no way the wind never effects the signal of mobiles, radios, or any other
but all of them are effected if there is dusty wind or rain, or thnderstorms, reason is:
mobile is not effected by wind is that mobile communication is line of sight communication, signals dont really go to space, they r just transfered from one post to other and to ur mobile, but when there is shower the signal gets disturbed thats why in rain often signals are not recieved.
in case of radio if it is cloudy than u dont get good reception bqz. its signals have to go to space and then come back, so if it is cloudy the signals dont really get to the satellite as strongly as they should and come back weakly, so u dont get good reception but if it is only windy and not cloudy there r lots of chances that u get good reception.
so my dear remember that the rain or thunderstorm and dusty winds are basically disturbing the signals of both types of communication and they r reffered as noise.
