Is There Anyway I Can Skip Or Go Trew College/university Faster

Did you get a College Degree and not use it?

I have a degree in closed captioning and am just not happy in this career. But I feel terrible about wasting all that money on tuition for a degree I most likely will never use again. It's a scary prospect, and I'm thinking of going back to school yet again but am worried about going further into debt.

Am I the only one out there in this kind of position?

Pre calculus college level memory tricks!?

does anyone know any helpful pre calculus (university engineering level) tricks/hints or memory tricks? for example today I learned SohCahToa which stands for Sine = opp/hyp Cosine = adj/hyp Tangent = opp/adj.

any type of trick or hint or catchy memory tip that any of you know and would like to pass on would be appreciated.

I'm currently learning French with Duolingo, but am considering Rosetta Stone or something similar. What has helped you to learn a language quickly and effectively?

I have improved my French dramatically over the course of the last year or so, I have done all of this through self-learning techniques. I’d say I went from A2 level to strong B2 level. Some of the techniques I used were:Duolingo: This is where I started. Duolingo is quite good up to a point. If you’ve studied French before, just follow the tree (maybe you can skip most of the lessons). It gives you a nice foundation in the essential components of French without having to learn much grammar. You’ll have a good command of everyday phrases (in a wide variety of basic topics), how to construct sentences, and basic but fundamental grammar.Textbooks: There’s no way to avoid this one, I just sat down at a desk with a textbook, working through all the various tenses, grammatical structures, and moods. It really doesn’t take that long to do and it will help you immensely. I recommend this book. It contains everything you need for every day conversation, simple essay writing, etc.French TV/ Movies: This is how my listening improved quickly. Netflix + French proxy is a useful tip and will give you access to a wealth of actual (not French-dubbed English) French TV shows and movies. I started watching these with English subtitles, moved to French subtitles, and finally no subtitles at all. This was really important for understanding how French people really talk, understanding their expressions, and their accents.HelloTalk: This was probably most useful and something a lot of people might not know about. It’s basically a social network for language learners and will provide contact with native French speakers that you can talk to, make calls with, and interact with. They will help you with French and you can help them with whichever languages they are learning. It’s a genuine and easy way to interact with native French speakers from your own home.Maybe other people will have something to add, but I’m just sharing what worked for me.

Is it possible to read a 400-page book in one day?

I have a 13-year-old daughter who has a voracious appetite for reading. She reads a couple of books a day (couple hundred pages an hour, may be more). I consider myself a reasonably fast reader and she reads 6 times as fast as me. She retains information just as well as I do despite her speed (I know this because I'll often quiz her about the content). She recently told me that she's read every fiction book in her middle school library. She reads them during breaks at school, in between classes, lunch, on the bus ride home, etc. It's fun watching her eyes dart around when she's reading. She started a blog a year ago (PriyankaReads) where she shares book recommendations with others - I think it takes her longer to write each of her blog posts than it does to actually read the books.Regarding her reading speed, She took a quick test at my asking (Speed Reading: Test Your Reading Speed) and clocked in at 1872 words/minSo it's certainly possible - I could do it in a day, but I know someone that routinely does it in an hour or two** Wow - close to 2 years and almost 10K up votes later, readers here are still offering positive comments and feedback! For those that have inquired, Priyanka is still just as prolific a reader as she was when I originally wrote this answer. She has kept up her blog as well. Demands of high school have meant that she doesn’t write as many book reviews as she used to, but she still tries to whenever she can make time for it. She has over 225 book reviews on her blog now. Many of you have visited her blog and left her positive feedback there, which has served to encourage her to continue reading and blogging. Many thanks!
