Is There Other American Families Living In Acuna With American Kids Like Us Due To Deportation

Can i enroll my kids in school using a P.O. Box?

I very much doubt that they'll let you enroll your kids in school using a P.O. box, for the *exact reason* that you want to do it: you don't have a home there, and you want to use a P.O. box to make it seem as if you do.

If you move to Del Rio, you can register your kids in school after you have arrived there and have a place to stay. (Or if you are living homeless in Del Rio, there will be some provision for your kids then, too.) You should be able to register them just as soon as you meet whatever criteria they have for school registration, and your kids should be able to start school just about immediately. So you don't need to register them now, while you live somewhere else, and have them in school somewhere else; you can wait until you move to the area this summer.

But if you live somewhere other than Del Rio, like Houston or Seattle or Acuna, you won't be contributing to the cost of public education in Del Rio, and the Del Rio authorities are not going to want to educate your children -- and they won't have to.

If you don't hear from other people who know how public education works in Del Rio, certainly you should call the school and double-check my answer and any others you get. I don't have any special expertise in the rules about registering kids for schools; I don't even have kids. Other people, if they aren't experienced with public education in Del Rio, may also miss something. But I would be very, very surprised if you were allowed to enroll in public school with just a P.O. box because -- obviously -- you can get a P.O. box without actually living in a specific part of the city.

Good luck; I hope your move goes smoothly and your kids end up in good schools so they can have the best possible start in the world.
