Is There Something Wrong If My Dental Spacers Still Hurt Constantly After Nearly Two Years Of

Spacers, Expander, or Braces...Which hurts worse?

I just got 10 spacers put in my teeth almost 2 days ago. They kind of hurt when they were being put in, but not much after that. Later, however, they started hurting more and more, and the next day they hurt really bad. I've been taking Tylenol every 4-5 hours and that covers the pain some but it still hurts (especially when I bite down, so I haven't eaten a lot other than yogurt and applesauce). But I've been a little worried now that after dealing with these 10 spacers for 2 weeks, the expander might hurt worse. Does the expander hurt worse than the spacers do? And will the braces hurt worse than the other 2?

Also: (I have to keep the spacers for 2 weeks, then the expander for about 2 months, and braces for less than 2 years.)

I'm getting spacers tomorrow and molds for braces. Do they hurt?

The impressions (molds) are not painful and the alginate can come in flavors. Even if it is not flavored, it's not that bad and it doesn't take that long. The spacers will feel like you have something stuck between your teeth, and you will feel some pressure. It's nothing to worry about and the end result will be well worth it. Once your braces are on, do be sure to brush often and floss every day. this will help keep your gums healthy.

I cant understand why these braces hurt so bad?

Orthodonists are tricky buggars, ive heard so many stories of them doing stuff just to get money out of people who dont even need their teeth fixed! It's always a good idea to get 2 or 3 different opinions to make sure the orthodonist is being truthful. This one kid i know, the orthodonist said that for him to have braces they would have to break his jaw and have braces for 4 years, they went to another one and the ortho didnt break the jaw, and had the braces off within 2 years. It really only takes 6 months to fix teeth (as seen by celebrities) but orthodonists spread it out to 2-4 years because most people can't pay that much or handle the pain.

the cement won't mess your teeth, it hurts like a b**** to get off though, they have to use that tool where it smells like burning :(

It hurts so much because the braces are pushing your teeth together or apart and there are a lot of nerves in your mouth. Also if the ortho didnt cut the wire properly at the very back of your mouth, it could be poking you, in this case get a spoon to bend it or you can attempt to use that wax they give you although i could never get that crud to stay on!

Do spacers, pallet expander, and top and bottom braces hurt?

Spacers do not hurt, they are there to stop your teeth from shifting until your adult teeth grow in.. they are just a little annoying. Braces only hurt for the first day or two after you have them tightened, just take some pain killers before you go for your visit to the orthodontist. A palate expander unfortunately can be quite uncomfortable. most people have to adjust it often and its actually pulling the bones in the roof of your mouth apart and new bone grows there to gradually make your mouth wider, this causes a headache but you get used to it. Just remember 6 year olds get palate expanders... if they can tough it out, so can you and you'll love the results in the end :) Good luck!

How are tooth spacers put in and do they hurt?

I am not sure what you mean by tooth spacers. When preparing teeth for braces, a space is needed so that the band on the molars will slip in between the teeth or tooth next to it. A wooden wedge is put between the teeth to pry the space open enough to place a small elastic or rubber band. There is very little pain and often the gum will be numbed before slipping the wedge in. After a week or two when the space is large enough, the rubber band will be removed and the metal band will easily slip around the molar.Space maintainers are usually made for children when a severely decayed primary tooth must be pulled. Teeth have a tendency to move toward the midline and also to move ( say for the lower jaw) up until it hits the opposing tooth. In order to maintain the space left from the extracted tooth to allow enough room for the secondary tooth to come in, a space maintainer is made and then cemented on a tooth next to the space and left on until the secondary adult tooth begins to come through. Sometimes if the band of the maintainer goes under the gum there may be minor transitory discomfort. See photoAnother reason a space maintainer may be placed is for a person who has had an extraction and will need an implant or a fixed bridge. The space maintainer is placed until the person is ready to have these services done.

How much did or do braces hurt based on your personal scale of 10?

I have braces right now so I can pretty much tell you that.Placement- 0You won't feel a thing during the placement of braces. It's going to be completely painless procedure. So my answer would be zero. You might feel a little discomfort because of the presence of foreign object in your oral cavity but pain won't be there. After 5–6 hours= 8.Now you'll start feeling pain. Initially, it would be mild, let's say 5. But with time it will increase.Next 24 hours= 10.Next 24 hours are going to be the most painful hours of your whole orthodontic treatment. You won't be able to bite anything. Teeth will be extremely tender. Forget biting, even a slight touch of your tongue will cause pain. You'll be advised to take analgesic for that. You'll have to rely upon liquid diet entirely. You might even regret the decision of undergoing this treatment but trust me, it's totally worth it.After 48 hours= 8.Now you'll feel comparatively better. You can eat semisolid stuff. Teeth are less tender now. You might notice ulceration on oral mucosa because of the braces and wire. And that constant irritation causes more pain and discomfort. You’ll be advised to apply topical anesthetic get over that area. After 72 hours = 4–5.You'll be able to bite and chew with mild pain. After one week = 0–1.There won't be any pain. You'll get used to it. You won't feel any discomfort. After 20 days= 0.Only mirror and toothbrush are going to remind you that you're having braces.First wire tightening= 7–8.Pain is going to last for hardly 1–2 days. And then slowly with time, you’ll get used to it.You are never going to regret this decision, trust me. Go for it. All the best.

Do spacers hurt more than Braces, or vice versa?

Spacers hurt like a beotch for me, so you're a trooper! My braces ages ago were ok, they only hurt like a day or so after I went to the orthodontist and got them adjusted. Good luck! I'm sure you won't feel a thing if spacers didn't phase you. ;)
