Is There Such A Thing As A Vegan Lumberjack

Best food to take on overnight camping trip/hike?

Its just two miles in to hike, 2 miles out.

Bringing a simple tent, a change f clothes and food...but I don't want itto be all processed and full of chemicals. What healthy foods can I bring that are trail friendly?

Why is being vegetarian different from vegan?

There's many different kinds of vegetarians (different sets of picky rules). Some drink milk, some don't. Some eat eggs, some don't. Some "vegetarians" even eat fish (doesn't make sense to me but it's true). Some apply the "rules" to non-food items like not using leather or any animal products at all (almost impossible in my opinion - I think these people are kidding themselves - and is using oil-based products really any better)?

In my opinion it isn't about "all or none" but rather finding a good balance for healthy people and a healthy planet, but that DOES mean eating less meat and more vegetables because we are out of balance right now but we don't have to take it to extremes.

Can there ever be an end to factory farming?

First of all I'd like to state that I am not neccessarily a vegetarian but I have greatly cut back on my meat consumption because of many of the factory farm practices I have grown aware of recently. I am not advocating that everyone turn vegetarian, but rather I'm wondering if there is any possible way for us to do away with the practice of factory farming in large part and return to primarily relying upon family farms where animals are treated much more humanely

Can you straight razor shave if you are a vegan?

Does anyone think Animal abuse commercials are too long? ?

I get it the animals are hurt, sad and need a family. But they drag on waaay too much. And I'm starting to see more and more of these commercials. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Why do vegans make food that imitates & tastes like meat? How is making a vegan steak different than a vegan dog or vegan cat meat? If a vegan would be repulsed to eat meat to taste and look like dog meat, then why is he not repulsed by vegan steak?

Look at it this way. When you combine vegetable proteins—grains and legumes— and various herbs and spices, you get a product that doesn’t look or taste very different from meat, because they’re both protein. It’s not hard to make, either. So it’s not vegetables imitating meat. The meat just happens to be similar to vegetables. The original meat substitutes didn’t try to imitate meat as closely as they do now. They were intended as a nutritional substitute for meat in the diet. Eventually someone thought that making a product that looked and tasted like meat would be helpful to people who were transitioning to a vegetarian diet but missed the things they were accustomed to. So they added flavorings and colorings.I can’t say how successful that approach has been. Some people can’t tell the difference. Some can and don’t like the substitutes because they don’t actually taste like the ‘real thing’, in their opinion. What little I have tasted of meat leads me to believe they do taste similar with one big difference. Real meat smells and tastes of death. The substitutes do not. So in my mind there’s no correlation between the two.The disgust for me comes in seeing something that came from a dead animal and is full of bacteria and viruses, blood, pus, and who knows what all. If I’m eating something that’s nice and clean and plant-based, I don’t care if it looks or tastes the same as meat.

Has there ever been a bar or restaurant you went to that looked like a dump on the outside but had outstanding food?

Yes twice. They always seem to be very tiny places. The first was a diner if you can call it that - there were about 10 tables or booths. It was in New Hampshire and we were directed to go eat there by some of the locals. We walked in and the place was a dump inside and out. The outside looked more like a shack than a restaurant. Inside the cushions of the booths were all torn red pleather and had been repaired with silver duct tape. The tables were 1950’s style with the rusty chrome band going all around the edge of the table and were carved up with the initials of past patrons.. The counter where the waitress and the register sat were half broken off with the wood showing clearly through the fake formica. The other patrons were rough looking guys in lumberjack style with full beards, jeans, flannel shirts and woolen hats on their heads. I was more than a little apprehensive sitting down, but we were all hungry. We all ordered hamburgers and a vegetable side. It was the best hamburger I have ever eaten. My family was just as enthusiastic about their meals. Because the place was so small, we were all sitting very close to one another and during the meal the men in the flannel shirts started talking to us and as rough as they looked - that’s how nice they were. The other time was recently in Miami, Fl. My daughter wanted to eat vegan and the rest of us eat meat, so we looked up a place on our phone. It brought us to a street that looked like an industrial warehouse area. Graffiti all over the buildings with empty chain-tied gated car lots. We were directed to a tiny place on the corner with the name of the place KUSH spray painted outside on the wall. There was one table outside, where a young black family was eating dinner next to a fire hydrant & street sign and sort of boarded up windows. We went inside and it was a cramped bar on the left with about 5 tables set up very close together on the right. There was reggae on, and there were huge picture of reggae artists painted on the walls. I loved it. We ordered - I got a cuban sandwich and a fruity beer. My daughter ordered a vegan burger and a mixed drink and my husband and guests ordered hamburgers and chicken. All delicious. Again the best food I’ve ever tasted. Don’t judge a restaurant by it’s cover I guess.
